Barbara Neikirk Lasater

I'm married for 23 years and lived in NC for about that long. I was a Public Affairs Manager at the Sprint Corporation, until downsizing after 9/11. After that, my career took a different path and I worked for Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Psychiatry as a project manager in clinical research. I retired from there in June of 2020 and have been bicycling, spending time with grandchildren, hiking, camping, yoga and kayaking.I also spend lots of time in the woods, at my treehouse with Coco the Wonder Dog.

I skipped school with Ann Lloyd (class of '72) from the student parking lot before class. We went to Columbus and visited a friend of hers at OSU, and we were gone all day. The school nurse (Mrs. Wonderleigh?), called my parents because she saw us leave. All day my folks were worried about me. Meanwhile, Ann and I are having a groovy time on campus and felt like college girls. We made it a point to arrive back to school just as it was letting out. I saw someone, I think it was Ruth Carpenter, and she said everyone was looking for me. What a chilling feeling!
I went home as usual with my brother Tony (class of '71) and the folks were waiting for me, nostrils flaring. I don't remember what time of year it was---fall, I think---and I was grounded until the Sweetheart Swirl, which was in February.
I never liked the school nurse after that.
