Jeff Redefer, Associate Professor/Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies/ Coordinator-Audio Sequence

Jeff Redefer began his career in audio production at the age of 9 with his first guitar lessons. During the 1970’s Jeff began his sound career in earnest working with RCA recording artists, Pure Prairie League, as a sound engineer. Jeff toured with them for 5 years. During this time, he had the opportunity to also work with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, New Riders of the Purple Sage, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, Earl Scruggs Review, Aztec Two Step, Jonathan Edwards, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Nancy Wilson, Robert Kline, Firefall, Pablo Cruise, Jerry Jeff Walker, David Alan Coe, Leon Redbone, Vassar Clements, America, Steve Goodman, Dicky Betts, and John Hammond, among many others.
After his tenure with Pure Prairie League, Jeff went back to being a fulltime musician performing in a number of venues across the United States playing a variety of musical genres from Jazz to Pop to Country to Rock. During this period Jeff was hired as tour guitarist for his former employer Pure Prairie League.
After many years living on the road, Redefer returned to college to pursue his bachelor's degree in Radio-TV, specifically audio recording. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Jeff began work at the world renown Recording Workshop, a school for the recording arts. In addition to being a recording engineer, producer and instructor there, he also was appointed Associate Director. While at The Recording Workshop, Jeff was also on the adjunct faculty of the Conservatory of Music at Capital University. Additionally, Jeff taught a few classes from time to time for the Ohio University School of Music.
In 1989, Jeff was recruited to teach audio production for the School of Media Arts & Studies at Ohio University. In 1990 Jeff was appointed to the role of Area Head of the Audio Production Program. 1997 found Jeff receiving his MA in Film degree. The following year he was granted tenure at Ohio University and promoted to Associate Professor. In 2002 Jeff was appointed Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies with the School Media Arts & Studies a role he maintained for 15 years in addition to his teaching duties. For his efforts, Jeff has received several teaching and student advising awards over the years.
While at Ohio University Jeff has been involved in hundreds of recording projects focusing on music projects and in recent years many audio post-production projects for film and television. Redefer has received two Emmy awards and two Telly Awards for his work in sound design for moving image that have aired nationally on PBS. Jeff is a Full voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (The Grammy’s) as well as the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (The Emmy’s).
