Looking back, 5 of my best friends from high school up to today went to Hilltop. After graduation, most of the guys I hung out with from CVHS were from '62 and '63.
I was married to Jean Nessler (Gillow) and have added some information and pictures of her in the "In Memorial" section.
Also, I was friends with Chuck Wischstadt and have added information and pictures in his "In Memorial" section. I included a YouTube with some scenes of an 8mm film that Chuck and I made.
There are some good posts on the Message Forums for Hilltop High School, class of 1964 and for the Chula Vista class of 1963. These forums can be accessed without a password. There is some good history of Chula Vista on these Forums. Here are links to the two forums:
Here are good books on the History of Chula Vista:
Images of America Chula Vista by Peter Watry and Frank Roseman
Chula Vista Then and Now by Peter Watry and Frank Roseman
Chula Vista Centennial: A Century of People and Progress, 1911-2011 by Dr. Steven Schoenherr
Chula Vista Heritage 1911 - 1986 by City of Chula Vista
The late Congressman Bob Wilson wrote and interesting book called Confessions of a Kinetic Congressman.
All of these are available on amazon.com and abebooks.com. The Watry and Roseman books are also available at the CV Heritage Museum near 3rd and Parkway.
Below is one of my YouTube videos that I also put on the Hilltop 64 Message Forum. Some of you may remember the San Diego KFMB evening news with Ray Wilson, Doug Oliver, Harold Keen and others from TV-8.
This is a short video of "This Day 1964 News" with excerpts from one of the TV-8 news programs from 1964 (this and my other videos are found by searching "gsquarb"):
Does anyone know how we can contact Ray Matela? I remember seeing something about him in the message forum but I can't locate it now. We are getting ready to mail out the information about the Reunion and we would like to include Ray if anyone has contact information for him. Thanks for any help!
From someone? NOT sure who told me this, but I heard in the last 5 years or so anyways that Fred still lives in the San Diego area. That's not too helpful, since there isn't any sign of him there, but it's just what I had heard from somebody. Oh brother, should I have even said anything not knowing who even told me! Dana
I had an address for Fred in Spring Valley. I searched whitepages.com this morning and found an address in Bonita so I re-mailed the information to him. Thanks for responding.
Hope you are planning to come to the Reunion? It may be our last so it would be great to see you!
I am planning to come, but I'm waiting to see if my husband is coming too before I sign up. I should know pretty soon. It will be nice I'm sure. All of you have worked so hard on all the reunions.....it hasn't gone unnoticed by anyone I'm sure. Great job always through the years! This takes time and lots of it. Personally, I want to thank you for all your hard work. Everyone will have fun and it will be nice to catch up. Glad you found Fred. I don't think he's come to any of the reunions. Maybe this one! Thanks again Jacquie! Looking forward to seeing you and catching up! Dana
Yes Peg and I are both coming to the reunion. I did locate John and sent him a note to the Palm Springs area and that note cought up with him in , I think it was Carlsbad, CA. Thanks to all that helped with the search
Kathy Hawkins does live in Midland Texas with her husband Paul Hamels. I don't think she has a cousin by the name of Jan. We are still close and saw each other a few months ago when she was in San Diego. I think we are both planning on attending the reunion, but in my very orderly way - have not done anything about it yet!
Thanks for straightening everyone out, Kay. I DO have a cousin named Jan, but she lives in Coto de Caza, CA! Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion, if all goes as planned.
If you've read my bio, you know that I didn't really have an enjoyable time in high school I don't have many memories of my time there or the people. I've basically been away since 1964. I went to one reunion (maybe the 20th?) and pretty much just spent the time with my wife. I re-introduced myself to a few people, but there just weren't any connections.
I've tried to get excited about the 50th reunion...I've posted some stuff, I've made contact with some of the alums, I've spent some time on this website. However, I just can't see that this would be a very valuable trip for me to make. I'm happy that many of you have stayed in touch with each other and I hope you have a great time, but I'll be skipping the reunion. Thanks.
GOLFERS: Tee-times are still available for the MICHAEL GERMAN GOLF DAY on September 19th. Contact the committee or Jack Blakely to register or for more information.
