Tony and I were in the same first grade class at Pleasant Ridge elementary school.  He was just a week older than me.  Sadly, we had the misfortune to have the cruel sadistic teacher named Mrs. Sarah Ziegler.  We became friends just to survive that horrible teacher.  Tony was an outgoing talented boy.  Smart, too.  I remember his incredible magic tricks and card tricks when he was just six years old.  I remember. as a first grader,  being invited to dinner at Tony's house, I think on Ridge Road, and meeting his parents.

It's so sad to lose classmates.

I've known Tony since first grade at Pleasant Ridge Elementary, and we have remained friends through all these years.  At Schroder, we both goofed off/worked at the Student Bookstore.  During those Junior High years, we took long bike trips, rode the bus downtown for a movie at the Albee, lunch at Junior's, or the Orange Juice Bar, and just walked the streets trying to act grown-up.  In the late 60's, Tony was stationed in California with the Air Force.  I was being shipped overseas and left home a few days early to visit with Tony.  Tony was a very funny guy, and we had a great time.  Tony was also really smart and all about the newest technologies.  I couldn't come close to keeping up.  In recent years, he and his wife Marilyn became deeply involved with genealogy.  They generously and patiently shared their knowledge with me to work on my own family tree.  He attended the Woodward 50th reunion and talked many times about how glad he was that he went, and was able to reconnect with old friends.   I'm gonna miss him.
