NEWBERRY - Rev. Eldred Lewis Haynes, 61, of 1815 Whitener Road, Newberry, SC, died Monday, November 1, 2010, at his home.
Born in Columbia, SC, he was the son of Mrs. Cancerleen Clark Haynes and the late Willie Lewis Haynes.  He was a member of Gunter's Chapel Baptist Church in Columbia, SC.
Rev. Haynes was a 1967 graduate of C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia, SC. He was the first African-American admitted to Spartanburg Methodist College and graduated in 1969. He graduated from Wofford College in 1972 and later graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, with a degree in opticianry.
He was employed by American Optical, Pearle Vision, Bausch & Lomb, LensCrafters and later with Walmart Vision Center.
Rev. Haynes served as pastor of St. Matthew Baptist Church for 10 years. He was lead singer and manager of the Singing Crusaders of Camden, SC, until 2003. He also participated in numerous community organizations and served as a representative for the Kidney Foundation.
In addition to his father, Mr. Willie Haynes, his sister, Cynthia Morris preceded him in death.
Those who celebrate his life and cherish loving and precious memories include his devoted wife, Doris Haynes; his mother, Cancerleen Haynes; six daughters, Trongeleen (Nathan) Dickerson, Carlos Haynes, Dywonne Haynes, Takquana (David) Arduagu, Natasja (David) Simons, Ivy (Carl) Brown; two sons, Kerry Suber and Shawn (Tomisa) Suber; 13 grandchildren, five sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Gunter's Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Promise Land Cemetery. Visitation and a Service of Love will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Baptist Church in Newberry, SC. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Newberry, SC.
