IN MEMORY

Joan E. Hotchkiss (Wells)

Joan E. Hotchkiss (Wells)

Wells, Joan (Hotchkiss), of Westwood, died November 18th, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of Harry E. "Skip" Wellsfor 54 years. Loving mother of Harry E. "Chip" Wells IV and his wife May of Wareham and Jill Mondrush and her husband Eric of Milford, MI. Devoted grandmother of Harry E. Wells V and Bradley and Benjamin Mondrush. Sister of Jill Basherian and her husband Paul of Plymouth, MI.

Joan was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, sister, listener, friend, and a master volunteer. A partial list of her volunteer efforts would include: a lay chaplain at the Brigham, prison ministry, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, Hale Reservation, Meals on Wheels, feeding the hungry at various places, driving for Fish, tutoring reading, teaching English as a Second Language, and showing indigent mothers how to read to their children. Joan was able to do all of this with a high degree of optimism and a great sense of humor.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., WESTWOOD, on Wednesday Nov. 29th from 4-8pm. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday morning Nov. 30th at 11am in St. John's Episcopal Church, 95 Deerfield Ave., Westwood, MA 02090. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan's memory to The Home for Little Wanderers, Attn: Development, 10 Guest St., Boston, MA 02135 or at give@thehome.org or to St. John's Episcopal Church at the address indicated above.

So sorry, Skip. Sending you heartfelt sympathy on the sad news about Joan. I remember how wonderful it was visiting with both of you at our 50th RHS Reunion. Always loved her sweet personality and wonderful smile. You were so blessed to have each other far beyond your Golden Anniversary. Hugs across the miles from AZ.

Jeff and I share in the sadness you feel on Joanie’s passing.

She and I went to Episcopal church camp together when we were in high school, and it was apparent then her life would be one of service to those less fortunate. She was a lovely person who lived her faith.

Our Love and Peace to you and your family.

Nancy and Jeff

I believe Joan was loved by all of us, not just a few plus Skip and their families. She was a delight to be with, honest, sincere and fun with her great sense-of-humor.

The change in Joan between our visit in 2009 to 2014 was obvious and clearly demanding of my prayers to begin. Skip was good about updates, and I knew our healing Lord was hearing the prayers being said by the many who loved her (and Skip), until her mansion was ready.  Joan is fully healed, well and happily satisfied now, and I look forward to seeing her sweet smile again.

The Lord will sustain you and your family in this painful loss, Skip.  Thanks for taking good care of your lifelong sweetheart; oh how God has blessed you both.  My love-in His grip...
