Jon Schrade

Left ELHS 1964; Attended Drury College (now Drury University) 1964 -68; Graduated in 1968 and worked at the University in the Admissions Office 1968-71; Attended graduate school in CSP (College Student Personell) at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale; graduated with a Master June 1973; Worked at Virginia Commonwealth University 1973-76; Worked at Western Wyoming Community College 1976-2010. I was married for 13 years to Jane Smith. Rock Springs and Jon Schrade were not for her. She is now living in San Diego. I married Jackie Freeze in 1989.(I could write a book on how special she is) Retired July 1st 2010.

This story relates to the military question as well. Kenny Blaisdell and I played soccer together for a number of years. Our senior year, 1963-64, Kenny and I were messing around in the locker room after practice I think or maybe after a loss. We never won any games. Kenny took my towel and threw it in a toilet. The toilet had been used. Without thinking I picked up the towel and threw it back at him. Now Kenny was a better athlete than me but I was better looking. Just wanted to throw that in. Anyway, after I threw the towel at Kenny he came after me and I took off across the wet locker room floor. In doing so I slipped and fell on my right shoulder dislocating it. I was told Kenny thumped on me a bit before he saw my ugly shoulder. I don't know if that was true. What do you remember Kenny? Any way after time I had surgery. To make a long story short, The surgery held until my senior year of college when I dislocated it swimming in an intramural competition. In 1968 I was drafted to go to Vietnam. I left behind a young wife and a new baby. While in Kansas City going through processing a doctor pulled me out of line and asked me about the scar on my shoulder and ultimately sent me home 4F. So Kenny if you felt bad back then, don't. You probably saved my life. Half of my Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity brothers didn't come back. Kenny, I was just kidding. I was definately the better athlete.
