If we had had more time I would have stopped but it was a very quick trip!!
My sister and I talked about going to Universal Studios so I will let you know when. I am going on the cruise with her in Feb. but we will only be doing that. Not sure when I will go back after that.
Just got back from my other sisters. It was the first ann.of her accident and I wanted to be with her. We had a good weekend. I went up on Friday and came home today.
But I think my trip to Fla. and then my trip to Mass. were too close together. I'm tired. It was a long drive home with construction, accidents and rain!

Just came back from Miami and it took me 2 days to recover from that Miami humidity. Saw my daughter do "Escape to Miami" triathlon. that is a mile swim in Biscayne Bay,26 mile bike and 10k run-all in 90degrees. She came in 2nd in her age and 10th women overall(out of 600) not bad. I don't know how she does it!

The weather is turning cooler in Mass., Now I'm missing the warmth of Fl., just can't have the perfect weather all the time, anybody in the country have that year round. Write in about it. I hate the winters in Mass. cold, dreary and no sun. This year I'm doing a few weeks in Fl. in Deerfield beach on the ocean. I'll just have to dream about it.If you wonder why I moved here, I love Lenox and it was great while the kids were growing up and the culture is wonderful but those winters, yuck!

Well, the busy season at the inn is finally over and I will be heading to the Outer Banks for a much needed vacation this week.  The highlight of my summer was meeting in Bolton Landing with Cathy B, Jane F and Margaret B ( all of us former EHS cheerleaders).  We had a great time and could have talked all night, but I left at 1 am or thereabouts!  We saw George Piper and I don't think he appreciated our "George Piper, he's our man" cheer on the dock.   Jane had just returned from CA and her visit with Jan.  So, inidirectly we all caught up with her too!  Last week, I had Sue Leibenhaut and her husband, Joe, visit and that was equally as cool.  Now that the kids are grown up, let's reconnect.  Sue and I want to get a GLC mini reunion going.

I'm all for that! Let's make it happen - and enjoy the Outer Banks. Winter will be here soon enough. I'm holding my breath - a project I've been working on for 2 1/2 years is supposed to go live next weekend - then on the 30th, off to Grand Cayman and some SCUBA diving and relaxing on the beach. It can't come too soon!

Nancy,

It was good to see you, Jane, and Margaret at Lake George.  I disagree with your statement.  Listening to the old Elmont cheer brought back many wonderful memories and you guys have definitely not lost it.

My only disappointment was that the three of you and Cathy Bogue were too shy to have a picture taken and posted on this site.

Great to see more Elmont folk getting together. It is wonderful to remember those simpler times growing up in our hometown. I think back often to those easy days and wish sometimes I could go back. Any memories anyone? Tell us about those great days. I was telling Susan the other day how I wish I could just go back to my old cozy room in my house on Freeman Ave. and hear all the goings on in the house. I lived in a cape and my mom always kept the house very warm. Since heat rises, it was 90 upstairs. I would always scream-Turn down the heat! Now I'm always saying-Can't we keep the heat higher then 62 in the house.

Joanne/Fred,

My street was behind John's Bargain Store (Big Ben before that).  First thing in the morning you could smell fresh bread from George's Bakery.  In the afternoon, you could smell hot subs coming from the deli.  In the evening, you could smell the Pizza from the Community Inn.  Every time you walked out of my house, you got hungry!

We loved to hang out a Laura's Candy Store.  I used to buy every "Archie" and "Katy Keene" comic book that came in.

There was a "sump" at the end of my street on Greenway Blvd.  Kids loved to sleighride there.  I didn't.  I always managed to get hurt.

Does anyone remember Valley Stream State Park?  We used to ride our bikes there.  Going that far from home when you were a kid was a big event.

I had lunch with Barbara (Sabra) recently.  I had just seen the movie Secretariat and told her how I remembered the day he ran at Belmont.  Do any of you remember when he ran at Belmont and won the Triple Crown?  Elmont Road looked like a huge parking lot.  Cars couldn't move.  So many people were trying to get to the track; I'm sure they all couldn't get in.  I managed to get home through the back streets and watched the race on TV.

Sabina

Hempstead Tpke. and Elmont Road are still packed on Belmont Stakes Day.
Valley Stream State Park is still open.Yes,It was a "coming of age" to ride your bike there. Also, you knew you were grown up when your parents let you ride your bike around the cemetery!
Hard to believe it is almost a year since our Fla. reunion. It was fun!!

Just getting around to reading the notes here! Nancy! I go every year to the Outer Banks and my son does his Big Fishing there. We take our boat and kayaks there too! One year on the Point I hooked A BIG BIG Fish! One that I was still going and had to double up on line after over an hour or so...It was thrilling but unfortunately it broke the line so I Never Said "I caught the Big one". Oh well makes for a good fish story anyway. We do rent a house every year for a week on Topsail Island,NC. Have you ever been there? If not you should try it there.. It is a real nice quaint town and not as far for us anyway than the Outer Banks. I live in SC that borders Charlotte, NC. Well... Just wanted to share that with you... Maybe will see you sometime there.. Smiles.. Cris B.

Hi again-
I just returned from NYC and did see Susan. She is resting at home and emails from the class would be nice. Her mom's death hit her hard and she is also dealing with her heart attack. I was very happy to see her and hug her!

 Hi Susan,

Please accept my deepest sympathy regarding the death of your mom.  My mother died five years ago & I still feel sad.  Remembering the funny , loving times together helps.

Get well soon.  I wish you a speedy recovery.   Fran

Susan Baum (Schloss)

Thanks to all of you who have sent me emails, cards, gifts, etc. due to the recent death of my mother, and my heart attack. I really appreciate your caring words and thoughts.

I am home from the hospital, on many medications, and feeling better. I am hopeful that things will progress in a positive manner!

I especially want to thank Joanne, for coming to see me and just hugging me as I cried--that meant so much to me! She also kept most of you informed as to my the situation while I was in the hospital for 5 days and was unable to do so myself. Again, thanks to all who wrote to me, I was cheered by your good wishes.

May everyone have a good, healthy holiday!

Susan

Almost had a white Christmas!
