Just got the word of a mandatory evacuation from Saint Petersburg. Hoping to get through with friends in a non evacuation zone in Tampa. All the roads out of the state are bumper to bumper past Georgia

Angelo:

After careful research in my Websta's "French to English" dictionary, I deterlmined the definition"

"Buta" means "geta";

"Bing" means "a bong";

"bang" means "a big bong";

"boom" means "a match".

SO, PER WEBSTA'S,

"buta bing, buta bang, buta boom" means "get a bong, get a big bong, get a match"

Angelo:

Please pardon my poor use of english in the previous definitions.  Drop the "a" in the definitions of "bing", "bang" and "boom".

I wonder if the great song in the late 50s/early 60s   (Hey there, got a match?  [long instrumental piece]  Hey there, got a match?   [another long instrumental piece]   Hey there, never mind!) was a forerunner to bota bing, bota bang, bota boom.

After further research, that phrase (bota bing, bota bang, bota boom) was a quote from Charles DeGaulle in a speech he made during the student riots in Paris during 1968.  The rioters were short on water, but  the Lebanese contingent had mucho (corned beef) hash wrapped in cheesecloth.

I was just thinking about the fact that nobody is planning a 50 year reunion...booo

maybe we dont have to make it sooo formal...how about getting together at a park or the beach for a day or weekend... i am open to any other sugestions ...i would like to see my old friends and if they want to they can even bring family members because it will be so informal....lets see if we can come up with something    Angelo

To all classmates who aren’t on Facebook: There has been discussion about trying to organize our 50th reunion, but nobody has volunteered to organize or co- organize.  Does anyone have any ideas? And any classmates who are willing to work on organizing?

It is such ashame that no one is organzing a 50th Reunion.... We all seem to have our own things going on and if we do not live in NY... it is costly to fly and stay overnight for many of us. Too bad we could not meet somewhere in the middle? I did like Angelos suggestion about having it informal...but then the weather is a factor...No one wants to go to the beach or State Park if it is raining. And when would we have it? My brother who graduated in 1964... They actually had theirs at the high school and he said it was neat to go there and have it there. Could have it catered at the high school maybe in the gym .. informal? But then someone would have to do that all and I cannot even imagine the work that is behind organzing something like this? I wished I could fly but I have no relatives left there at all and would have to stay in motel... and fly out. Good luck! My thoughts will be with you all that get together for the 50th... Smiles...

I am also interested in Jay Simon, since both of us were generally the shortest boys in our class at Alden Terrace and were lined up together.  I finally retired from the judiciary and will be able to open a Facebook page in the near future. I hope everyone entering their 68th year that we can make it another year.

Hey Cris and Marty, all is well. Right now I am traveling around the world for a year with my wife. A step above back packing. We are in Thailand now celebrating our 20th anniversary next week. We sent our son to Israel in September for his freshman year of college (why should he get to have all the fun).

We quit our jobs (I guess I retired), sold the cars, and locked up the house.

Check out our trip on my wife’s website - www.debbiperkul.com

Would love to stay in touch with both of you.

Best regards, Jay

Hi All

Bill Salmansohn called me and Dennis Wolpert to get the ball rolling on doing a reunion. Bill felt he had to beg off but Dennis are I are good to get this going. With some help, hopefully.

Dennis is well situated living in East Meadow, (I live near in Maryland near DC), to do some of the foot work needed to make this reunion happen . I will do what I can from my spot.

I spoke with some people at EMHS and suggested we take a summer Saturday afternoon tour of the school, which I was told groups often do.

I also mentioned that we might like to donate something of value to the school and was told that we could set up a scholarship grant, in any amount, and with any criteria, as  a graduation gift for some student or students.

I had a real nice impression of the current school in talking to a few of the office persons. I had heard some negatives about the school but I'm sure that in 1968 they called us hoods and other names when we were there. I'd be excited to see the place and do a bit of good there.

It seems desireable to me to have our get-together party near the old hood, so unless someone has a better idea, let's find a place, let everyone know, and do it. I am happy to take the lead with Dennis and whomever else would like to join us in arranging this thing.

  Cheers, Frank

Frank, I would be glad to help when you figure out what needs to be done.  Nancy (Jacob) Belluscio.

If a house could be rented in Elmont for the weekend for a dinner both Friday and Saturday night and to hang out. Possibly be used to stay overnight for out of town people. Maybe there is an Airbnb in Elmont. That would be very cool.

thanks for organizing a reunion!

I'm interested in coming to the reunion, from Seattle, Washington. I have a substitute gig in our local elementary school, so I couldn't come until the end of June.

That's my two cents. I'm sure you'll get quite a few others!

Best! Donna

Hello, everyone! I am very excited to read that efforts are underway for a 50th Reunion of any sort. Thanks so much to those who are taking the first steps. It's about getting together! The ideas of visiting the school, donating a gift, even looking into the school as a celebration site all seem worth pursuing. If people's careers are affiliated with education in any aspect, New York schools and many other locations around the country are not finished yet for the semester in early June, so a later date might be helpful. Hopefully, others will provide feedback quickly to get a feel for date availability. Even the plan to tour Elmont Memorial or possibly house an event may be more or less impacted by the school schedule. Many have likely had the family or friend events which cluster around a holiday. I for one, think we should stay away from Memorial Weekend, Fourth of July, or Labor Day. Though it gives an extra travel/vacation day, times have shown me it is more complicated and expensive all the way around. Regarding accomodations, The Garden City Hotel, is more accessible from the airports than you might realize and we have stayed there occasionally with advance sale offers. Also a few hotels along Old Country Road or nearer the Nassau Coliseum could be possibilities if that type of housing is needed. Overall, I would be grateful to be together and keep the plans simple and such that others are encouraged to get there. Be well, all!

Hello! Thank you SO much for beginning the process of organizing a reunion! I am looking forward to it.

I am also someone who would appreciate making it a little later than June 9, if possible, since that is the only weekend I could not come.  But I know it's difficult dealing with everyone's schedules, so I appreciate whatever you do! Thank you!!!

Count me in! But here are a few suggestions:

*Come up with maybe 3 possible dates and then throw it out there to get an initial sense of how many people might be coming.

*Why not just have the whole thing at the school if they will allow use of the auditorium? That way it might be easy to just get a rental company to come in with chairs and tables and have a caterer come in with food and drink. Maybe the school could come up with a few student volunteers that night who might show us around the school. From a pure nostalgia point of view, I think it would be great.

     * I love the idea of setting up a scholarship fund. It would be the ultimate give back. For those concerned about $, your donation would be tax deductible.

I hope these ideas help. And thank you to those who are taking the lead on this!!!

Ditto! I agree with....

Exactly what Roy Rosenberg said in his note!   All Great ideas!

~~Suggesting three dates..

~~Having it at the high school

~~Donating to school

I am looking forward maybe traveling with our camper maybe..

. Anyone is NY have any suggestions for camping place?

I see there is one in Hicksville, LI.. I believe which would be possible maybe? All depends when we have it...

Hats off to all the people who volunteered to help out.... Hard to help when so far away..  I would help on computer contacting peoples if that would help from here?

Good luck in your plans you all~~ Still not sure if I can make it or not but will thinking about you all!

Smiles.. Cris Boehringer

Also if I may???? We need to Include ANY Teachers... etc., too with the Reunion.....

Is that possible?  Who knows they might like to come if they are in the area or live near..

???  Would love to see some of the teachers if they are still around?   Or am I jumping the gun here?

Smiles.. Cris B.

I have a couple of suggestions - for one thing I like the idea of having the reunion at a hotel (or at a restaurant very nearby) where we can all be together. We can hang out as long as we want in the hotel after, and like last time, meet for breakfast/brunch in the morning. We could organize a visit to the school on Saturday afternoon for those interested in a stroll down memory lane.
