Celebrating 50 Years!

Join us August 9-11, 2013, for the 1st Mark Twain Reunion, celebrating 50 years since Mark Twain Elementary first opened its doors as a new grade school for the rapidly growing young Florissant population of the 60s.

Mark Twain School opened for Grades K thru 6 in September of 1963 and just 18 years later, with a dwindling student population, Mark Twain closed its doors as a school and the building was sold to a church. In 2006, with an increasing need for space, the building was re-acquired by the school district and is now a Student Support Center.

If you could step inside, you'll see that the school hasn't changed much since 1963.  The letters on the Mark Twain sign are missing, the playground is a parking lot (with no cowboy in sight), and houses occupy the beloved field beyond the old playground. Other than that, much is the same.

Even the water fountains in the yard, that quenched our thirst after a heated game of dodgeball on the playground, are still there and working!

It's time to return to and celebrate the place where we made some of our first friends. Through those years of innocence, together we learned about life and our world, true to ourselves because we knew no other way to be.

Join us this August 9-11 in celebrating that special home!

IT'S ALMOST HERE!

  • Thank you to all who offered ideas and opinions!  You helped develop our plan.  Hope you like it!
  • Special thanks to those who took time to make phone calls, onsite visits, and to negotiate contracts.
  • A Super Special Thanks to Tim Bohannon who took the better part of several weeks investigating venues and negotiating prices!!!

Below is a description of events and registration information.  Some events require paid tickets, some allow for donations, some are “pay as you go,” and some are Free.
