Dan Ervin

I could go there...
but I won't ...
I'm not sure why either.
Just seems like a good idea not to.
I'll "Hush Hush, Keep it Down Down"

Ok, I got the Til Tuesday reference, but I still don't know the song.

You might as well leave me in the dark, though. According to my wife and my co-workers, I spend most of my time there anyway.

I'm not embarrassed to know "Voices Carry" by 'Til Tuesday, because singer/songwriter Aimee Mann actually turned out to be an excellent solo artist (if you like melancholic modern alt-rock, that is). I even met her in Berlin once--much taller than HoJo, and she doesn't even use gel anymore.

OK, Carolyn, you want more of a challenge? How about this (bonus point for naming BOTH bands who recording this in the 80's):

You're in his eye and you'll know why
The more you live, the faster you will die

***Keeps Mike in the dark...for now***
Nope although Dan's reference was for Voices Carry (digging Aimee Mann), my quote was definitely not from that song. Think twangy.

Ok, you are definitely challenging me with your question Jeff. I'll need to sleep on it and get back to you. I know it's Der Kommissar but I'm blanking big time on the artists. - Speaking of Deutsch Jeff, do you speak English or German at home or is it a mix?

My 9 year old is getting his tonsils out tomorrow so carry on with the game without me in the meantime. Dan, since you are in the lead, I'm passing the torch to you as official scorekeeper and trivia-meister.

Dan Ervin

oh sure...leave it to the guy who did bad in math to be scorekeeper :)
Der Kommisar was by After The Fire - so is that a half point for Carolyn?

That makes the score
Dan - 8.5
Michael - 6
Karry - 4
Jeff A. - 2.5
Angela - 1
Carolyn - .5 (or 3.5 unofficially?)

New Question - name the song and artist:

"So, you call her on the phone
To talk about the teachers that you hate.
And she says she's all alone,
And her parents won't be coming home til late."

Half points for Dan & Carolyn.
No one got the bonus point, though, for the ORIGINAL singer/writer of "Der Kommissar", which is the only version known on this side of the ocean: Falco (yes, the one who was rocked by Amadeus).

As for your quote, Dan, I have NO idea (the same for Carolyn's--I didn't do "twangy" in high school:)

And Carolyn--we speak German at home, with English subtitles.

Sharona said it's Good Girls Don't by the Knack. :D

That makes the score
Dan - 8.5
Michael - 6
Karry - 4
Jeff A. - 2.5
Carolyn - 1.5 (or 4.5 unofficially?)
Angela - 1

Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi of course

Anyone remember Mrs. Takasuka telling us that she actually saw Jon Bon Jovi in person? The main thing she noticed about him is that he had a big nose. :)

07/24/08 04:19 PM #126

Dan Ervin

aww. how cute. she had such a little itty bitty button nose.

ill let you start counting again Carolyn...my head hurts

07/24/08 06:35 PM #127

Carolyn Crumley (Kleen)

Anyone know if the Takasuka's are still teaching in FD? Okay, the scores are now...
Dan - 8.5
Michael - 6
Karry - 4
Jeff A. - 2.5
Carolyn - 2.5 (or 5.5 unofficially?)
Angela - 1

Back to movie quotes, we'll start with an easy one.
"No more yankee my wankee! The Donger need FOOD."

Both Mr. and Mrs. T are listed on the official FDSH e-mail directory, so I'm assuming they're both still teaching there.

And I remain clueless about the current quote.

It would be interesting to see which teachers are still around, and where the others are who are retired. My mom recently sent me an article about Mr. Lehmkuhl--didn't even recognize him, he's looking pretty fit!

William Bill Hughett

Jeff,
That's good news about Lehmkuhl. I did a Sophmore game last year at the stadium. That night was to be his last game to announce at the stadium. When I went up to see him I did not recognize him do to his health.

I'm also guessing 16 Candles for the current qoute.

Interesting to hear you're still playing sophomore football at FDSH, Bill:)

Seriously, though, it's good to hear from you!

07/28/08 11:54 AM #133

Dan Ervin

Boy,
I bet he's pretty good at it by now eh Jeff?

07/28/08 06:09 PM #134

Carolyn Crumley (Kleen)

Dan - 8.5
Michael - 6
Karry - 4
Jeff A. - 2.5
Carolyn - 2.5 (or 5.5 unofficially?)
Angela - 1
Bill - 1

Alright Bill! Good to get more players!

Here's a long quote, but I love it so much I had to put the whole thing here.
:)

"So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice. "

Jeff and Dan, I Referee the football games.. Been doing it for 7 years now. Yes, I have seen some interesting things. My favorite is the young man who breaks one down the sideline show boats at the 20 and then stops at the 10 thinking he was in the endzone. Two young men from the other team took their free shot.

My guess.... Something from Bill and Ted????
How about: IF it bleeds you can kill it.

07/29/08 12:26 AM #137

Jeffrey Allers

"Predator"

YESSSS! (he says as he does a victory dance, 10 yards from the goal line:)

By the way, speaking of Bill and Ted, can anyone name this very 80's song:

My name is Ted, and one day, I'll be dead.

07/29/08 09:00 AM #138

Dan Ervin

Jeff -I wanna be a cowboy...
cant think who sang it. (at least not without Google - and that would be wrong)

Bill - that's actually very cool that you're doing that.

Speaking of Falco.....have you guys seen his grave? Fabulous.

Wow, I did not even know he had died. A tragic story, from obscurity to fame and back to obscurity.

We were staying in a cabin in the mountains this weekend, and friends of ours brought a DVD of a classic 80's show with them. Can you guess which program ended with a narrator giving this line?

"a lone crusader in a dangerous world. The world of..."
