John

Just dropped in to check the site, noticed that you were asking about homecoming, I thought that it was alot of fun, I have not been back to a game since graduation. It started out by some of us meeting at the school for the ex's meeting and the pep ralley there was Susan Harlan, Rhonda Toney, Glenda Hartsell, Steve Krivanek West and myself, at the ex's meeting we got to nominate who we wanted to be coming home queen so we nominated Glenda and she got it, we stayed for the pep ralley, let me just say oh my gosh, so much has changed it didn't even seem like a pep ralley, I think the cheerleaders only did one cheer, the football team stood on the stage the whole entire time, it was nothing but a bunch of yelling you couldn't even understand what they were saying, but it was still fun to see also just to go back into the school and walk the halls it brings back alot of great memories. Homecoming night we all met at the stadium for the game and to see Glenda receive coming home queen which was given at half time all of us that were at the school that day were there and then Tony Martinez, Tim Spraggens, Elliot Robinson, Tommy White and I know I seen others, after that we all left and went to fuzzies taco's on Race Street, it was alot of fun and there were even more that met up there, I think Phillip Coe and Cindy Martins. Wish you and your wife could of been there, but there will be more time. Hopefully we keep this message forum going it is sure alot of fun to read.

Hi Donna,
Thanks for the Homecoming update. Sounds like I missed a lot of fun and cheers. My family was celebrating family birthdays so I had to be with them. Just thought I'd pop in here to see if anything new was happening. Maybe I can make the next get together if one gets planned. Hope all is well with you and yours!

Hello to the Guy's and Gal's of 78,

The school bell is ringing here at Clarke Elem. I am sitting here in my principals office checking my emails.I for some reason was thinking about old Carter High. What a blast we had.....I was thinking about lunch time. I was thinking how we all went our seperate ways during lunch. I remember going with different people at different times. We would go to old Sammie's, Mi Casa, Good Lucks, Edmonson's Chicken, Burger King and Mc Donalds. Let's get this going....tell about some of the places you went for lunch. You can add a story or two if you would like. Jump on in...I will be checking daily and so should you. Tony M.78

Tony, Dont forget Pizza Inn and Coors BBQ! which use to be A&W Root Beer drive thru. We use to also go to Mcdonalds in 1976, they would give us a discount on the Big Mac if you could say the jingle Remember this?
Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun!

Hi Tony and John! Who can forget Taco Bell??? Back in the days when a $1 could get you (2) bean burritos and a drink!

Hope all is well with everyone.

HUGS,

I can remember going to Jack in the Box with Dorrian and getting super tacos. I think that same Jack in the Box has been there over 40 years, because I can remember that was one of the few places to get a hamburger when I was a little kid. Also we could get a whole meal for less than a dollar at McDonalds (hamburger, fried & drink). I do remember standing there trying to say the jingle for a Big Mac and arguing that I had done it in the right amount of time. Most of the time though I was stuck in the old cafeteria eating a sack lunch with the junior guys (Jay Long, Alan Husbenet ect...) because most of my lunch buddies were in yearbook and had a different lunch period than I did. We did manage to have some good times in there and lots of laughs. The thing I was struck by is how small that cafeteria is now. We went and looked at it at Homecoming. It seemed big back then.

Just wanted to let everyone know our old favorite choir teacher Mrs. Lambert passed away. She was special to anyone who took choir and we really treated her badly, but she seemed to like us anyway. She put in a lot of effort into our group and even took us to competitions. What a brave woman! I can still remember going to Trinity High School for a UIL choir competition and thinking that it looked like a college and wondering why our school looked so different. Anyway, Rest in Peace Mrs. Lambert. We still appreciate all the effort you put forth trying to teach us an appreciation for music. Here is the link:

Hi all! Susan, that's funny about the Big Mac jingle. One of the country radio stations was at the McDonald's and you got a free 35 record if you could say the jingle in 10 seconds. I tried and was on the radio...such a big deal back then. And no...I didn't win the big prize!

Tammy Roberts and I made a habit of going to the New Sonic on Beach. We would get a hot dog and a dish of ice cream....twist....chocolate and vanilla. Of course, this was after I got my car. Before that we would run to Burger King and eat running back. I was such a wimp and so afraid I would get caught off campus! So funny!

For those of you who attended Springdale Elementary, I thought you might want to know that our 5th grade teacher, Edith McLeod, passed away on Feb. 22nd. When she was my teacher I thought she was so old! Funny thing is, she was only 51. That doesn't seem so old now! I remember her being a very strict teacher. As I read her obituary I learned that she had served in the Marines. It all makes sense now!

Susan Harlan (Garrison)

Yes I read that about Miss McLeod. She was strict and I'm afraid I wasn't too fond of her, but I do remember she loved music and she did do a good job teaching that to us. She did seem old to me. Never shaved her legs or dyed her hair. I think she was in the generation of "Old Maid School Teachers". Our teachers are leaving us one by one and it makes me sad. :(

Good Luck was my favorite! I left Texas in 1985 and I still miss the BBQ.  When I visit all I eat is Mexican food and BBQ.
