ITINERARY FOR 55 YR “BASH

FRIDAY JUNE 21ST

I took a page from the reunion last year for the ‘68+/-.  There was an informal gathering for early arrivals and those that are localish. For those who may be curious, the beach was considered but I decided it was a bit out of the “comfort zone” and in June would be very crowded. I chose Belly’s on the Brazos because they have indoor and outdoor seating, a large pier for walking, standing and falling off, food, drink, a view of what’s left of the old Alma Mater and often on Friday a band. I hope to get in touch with them this week to arrange an area for the gathering.  I will explore other opportunities besides just seating.  At this venue, I would like to have someone volunteer to be there to welcome and a set of name tags.  This may not be necessary, but it is a thought. I thought maybe around 6 pm or a bit earlier.

Also, the city of Lake Jackson sponsors weekly summer series of bands on the patio of the civic center.  It is free to all and there are food trucks.  People are encouraged to bring seating and it is BYOB. The band is CC Rider.  These start at 7:30 until 10:30. These are very well attended.

Downtown Lake Jackson is very different from the town we grew up roaming around and creating mischief. There are several restaurants/bars, bars, and shops.  The city has spent a lot of money creating a more inviting downtown. Try it.  Also, we have two very credible museums, Lake Jackson Historical Museum and the Alden Dow Museum.

Some of us should get together for lunch on Friday or Saturday, maybe both to tie-up loose ends-greeters, badges, point of contact for questions, collecting money, etc. I would not mind the comfort and collaboration. I do not want to seem arbitrary but not Luby’s!  I would suggest The Local.  However, I’m open to suggestions.

SATURDAY JUNE 22ND

WHERE:Hardin Creek, 219 Parking Way, Lake Jackson (for reference, it is about 3 doors done from the iconic Franklin State Farm Agency)

https://hardincreeklj.com/

This web page will show menus, pictures etc.

I have reserved a portion of the interior, covered area outside as well as the game area.  Shellie Dow, the owner, would be willing to close as a private party but at the time we talked that was a little pricey.  I can inquire again. Maybe a better negotiator (read, “bullshitter”) would have better luck.

TIME:6 pm  10 pm (the venue opens at 4 so feel free to drop by early. The staff are very accommodating)

VENUE: (could not think of a better word) I have planned for 75 individuals.

At present, the class will provide beer, wine, soft drinks, etc along with the food from their menu.  I have budgeted for some of her family platters of heavy tapas. Hardin Creek has a desert they are proud of, so I put that in the mix for all. All this was chosen based on the amount of money I had on hand.  As we get more money I can likely offer more.  Mixed drinks will be cash bar, for now.  Again, this could change.

There will be a band, Davy Jones Locker.  For the locals, at least two of these guys are from the old Intercoastal Pirates.  I do believe they play a mix of country and rock.  There was one more band for a few dollars more, but they, though very good, were mostly rock. Let me know.  I think the band will start at 8.

While visiting there are checkers, cornhole, and some other stuff that I don’t recall.  We can bring other party games.

June 21 - 22
So, this is the information that I was given to make a post. I don’t know who to send the money to.  I don’t know when there’s a deadline, and any information that is missing, I don’t know.

$25.00 per person to register for the weekend.
Friday about 5:30 - Belly’s on the Brazos has indoor and outdoor seating.  There’s live music and a cash bar.  It has a fairly audacious menu, pay as you go.

About 6:00 Saturday night at Hardin Creek in downtown LJ  will be the main event.  There’s outside and inside for us to gather. There is also a yard area for games. The food will be on the light side, heavy horsd’oeuvlres , snacks and light dessert. Soft drinks, beer/wine to be furnished. Glenn Jones  is trying to negotiate being able to offer some drink drinks.  If not, that part may be cash.  There will be a local small country style band. This will be casual and hopefully conducive to a mingle session. If you haven’t been to LJ in awhile, you’ll want to explore all the offerings.  It has changed.  There are pub crawls scheduled from time to time.
Hoping BHS Classes 1967-1970 will participate.  Really casual activities expect MR. Michael Poehl’s golf.

That is absolutely all that I know.  I’ll add one proviso, it’s June 21+ so we probably won’t need coats.  Or even sweaters.  I’ll probably be where there is a/c.  ❤️y’all.
