School Story:
Loved growing up as a teacher during my years at Glenbrook South! I got hired striaght out of U of I (Go ILLINI!). I learned from the masters: Ralph Ganzer, Dick Wagner, and George Zerfass among others. Worked for the best bosses: "Doc" Bill Schreiner (principal) and John McConnell (Math Dept. I/S). While there, I sponsored the Orchesis Dance Club (fabulous annual shows!), the Math Team (always among the top in state!), taught math and computer math (anyone remember FORTRAN?), sold tickets at football games with Heidi Mullejans, served as President of the Glenbrook Teachers' Association (signed a couple of those great multi-year contracts) and in that capacity learned a lot about life and negotiations - which I wish I had put to better use when going through my divorce!), and cried when I had to miss my last month working at South in 1984 when I gave birth to Ashley. I really missed the students I had at the time, but also knew I would be moving on to a school closer to my home in Naperville. I retired from teaching in June of 2008 after 24 years at Wheaton North High School. One of my colleagues (who started there as a first year teacher when I first started there) was Don Helberg, GBS Class of '80! While there I got to teach just about everything from Algebra through BC Calculus. But now, not really retired, I teach at Joliet Junior College full time. I absolutely love it!
