Comments:

Career in Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Urban Planning, Park Design and Public Administration

Lots of adventures and travel. Rock climbing/skiing/Back- packing/Mt. biking/motorcycle touring

Favorite Glenbrook South Teacher and Why:

Curtis Crotty, Ronald Etherton & Darrell Lund

Curtis taught me to appreciate a well written sentence and great literature. I've written many technical articles in urban forestry, park design and community Op Eds on preserving community character. I live in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA. If you've been here you know what I'm talking about.

Ronald was my freshmen cross country coach when we won the conference title. He taught me how to fight through the pain, though he didn't mention throwing up at the end of the run. Tom Sletteland was fifth man on that frosh team, quite an achievement. Ken Ortiz, Jim Snyder, Bob Youngdahl and yours truly were always close behind.

Darrell Lund developed my sense of how important history and backstory is to everything. Throughout my career, I always looked back at what preceded to determine how I would approach the future. Saved me a lot of time and served me well when working with various individuals and group stakeholders with focused points of view.

Best High School memory:

All of it, as the first class graduating from GBS!

Where have you traveled outside of US?

Mexico, Canada, Bahamas & Europe

What would we be surprised to know about you?

I'm an activist in all things preserving community character and our small planet. Learned that trait from opposing the Vietnam War and all wars since, though I never served. I honor all of you that have.

What did you always want to do but haven't done yet?

Write a book. Walk the entire Pacific Crest Trail and motorcycle tour the entire border of our great country.

My wife Sandi and I do long extended (miles and time) back roads trips (by vehicle now) selecting various regions of the U.S. and Canada. We have a few rules when we set out. We avoid freeways at all cost, few preconceived destinations and when hitting an intersection then we'll decide left, right or straight. We've done the Lewis and Clark Trail, Lincoln Highway, Old route 66, Hwy 2 west to east, and nearly all the old west wagon routes during America's Great Migration.
Happy trails.

How old do you feel?

Younger than my age! My folks were still with us. Dad is 96 and still golfs my mom was in poor health for short period of time and passed away this past June, she was 94.

Danny, You better show up. Just talked with Kent Benson via email the other day. Tracked him down to Florida then lost track but low and behold, found him again through Barley. There's lots of years to catch up on from way back even preceding high school years. Best regards, Greg

Hey Peggy, Last time we saw each other was the 25th. I was hoping to see Chuck in tow then even though he was part of the North half of our original freshman class. Not only am I looking forward to seeing all our South classmates but had the added surprise, pleasure and hope of seeing all my old buddies including JR, John Hultgren, Steve Murray and Barth Morreale. Would be great if you two could work out your schedule for this once in a lifetime event at Hackneys of all places! Hi to Chuck. Best regards, Greg

Hey John,
You and Helen look fantastic! Life obviously agrees with both of you. I've followed you two via discussions when catching up with old friends over these many years. Many folks have passed through our little village and occasionally touch base. As I follow discussions on this site, it strikes me that we all nurtured one another in many ways even though we may not have realized it at the time. You two were solid back then and it's great to see nothing has changed. All my best and hope to see you both come September. Best regards, Greg

Hey Jim,
You were one of our car pool buddies. We had great morning drives to Glenbrook in our junior/senior years. An eclectic group were we. I always enjoyed your excitement talking about whatever events were happening at the time. You always seemed to have the pulse on what was going on. Stubby's station wagon was always the tour vehicle as I remember and he use to charge us each day until we revolted and said once each week and then monthly. He used to make that crazy sound trying to bust us for not paying on time. Hope your doing well and loving life.
Best regards, Greg
