REUNION UPDATE and SURVEY (May 20)

The reunion is Tuesday October 19 to Thursday October 21 in San Diego. The current schedule is:
October 19          Tuesday Evening, Meet and greet at a bar/restaurant
October 20          Wednesday Evening, Main dinner
October 21          Thursday Mid-day. Picnic. Mission Bay (near Bahia Resort)

Additional excursions may be added around this schedule (Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Safari park, etc.?)

We are currently looking at the Wyndham and Embassy Suites.  Both are just across Harbor Drive from San Diego Bay in the Downtown/Gaslamp/Convention center area. To get a group rate we will need to guarantee a certain number of rooms.  The same goes with the main dinner if we want a private room.

We are currently looking at six places for the reunion dinner.

In Gaslamp district, within ten blocks of the hotels, high ratings.
Butcher’s Cut (steakhouse), Dobsons (American), Old Spaghetti Factory, and Buca di Beppo
    Two bayfront locations
Pehoe’s, Polynesian/Pacific theme, Coronado Island, can take the Ferry for $5 each way
Bali Hai, Polynesian theme, Shelter Island (5 miles from downtown, on the other side of the bay)

Signed contracts and minimum food and drink guarantees ($4,000 to $6,000 for some places) so that we can have a private dining room is a challenge.  Some of these places will save an area off to the side of their main room without a contract and minimum.  But if we want a private room it requires a guaranteed minimum, months in advance. Typically half of reunion attendees pay for the dinner during the last month. At the last reunion we fell twenty dinners short of the minimum and burned through our reunion seed money.

So to reserve one of the private dinner rooms at one of the better locations we estimate we need 50 dinner commitments paid in advance (by June 30?).

June 8 Update.  Between this survey and individual emails we now have 45 commitments to pay for the dinner ahead of time. We also found that the Bali Hai has a $2,500 food and drink minimum for the day we want.  So thanks to all of you that commited to pay ahead of time it looks like we should be able to secure the Bali Hai, South Pacific room for the reunion.
