Sherri # 2800 -

Harmony Wedding Chapel ... yes, Bob and I started dating at 16 at Sam and married at Harmony Wedding Chapel in June of 1969 when we were 18.  We had the $30 wedding, with about 50 guests.  We also heard the famous "it won't last"; however, this past June was number 47 for us...Lots of ups and downs, but still together and enjoying retirement and grandkids in Ledbetter, TX.  Lots of memories.

My first wife and I were married at Harmony Wedding Chapel (Little York) August 26,1969.Ironically a former math Teacher,Mr Herron (sp) at Burbank Junior High performed the service. We only had parents attend and it was on a Tuesday night. My wife and I both got up the next morning and went to work. Unfortuantely the marriage only lasted 11 years. However we are best friends to this date on behalf of the 2 most wonderful daughters she and I had during the course of the marriage!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I am thankful for my family,  friends and my job. So many people are not working and I am fortunate to have a good job and boss!

Hope all of you are ready to eat some Turkey ~ I for one could eat it all year long. We usually get 2 this time of year and safe one to cook during the summer. We like to Fry them and roast or bake them. We are not planning on having any company come to see us this Thanksgiving. I have to work half a day on Friday and then I will take off for Houston ~ I have a rehearsal Friday night and will be officiating a wedding on Saturday afternoon. So I will be on the road for the week-end. Hope all of you have a safe and Happy one!

We had a storm blow through during the night and got a little over 2" rain. The wind sure did blow and the lightening and thunder was crazy! Today beautiful sun shine.

Have a good one!!!

Judy

You asked where we all ended up. Nancy, a Florida gal, and I are retired and live in, what we call a tree house. A top, sixth, floor apartment looking out through the tree tops on a 3 achier pond  with geese and two fountains. We are located in Woodbridge, VA. Just 28 miles South of Washington DC. 51 years married and loving life.

Happiest Thanksgiving to all.

I may be a little early but I want to wish each and everyone on here a very Merry Christmas.  I am blessed with a very talented sister who writes poetry.  I want to at this time share with each of you Her 2016 Christmas poem. You may pass her poem around to all you know but please leave her name attached. Thanks and may this be a true blessing to one and all.  Jim Krouse of class 1962

                            The Greatest Gift of All

It isn't all the presents, with bows and ribbons fair.

It isn't all the Christmas songs that linger in the air.

And though the trees are lovely and fill our hearts with cheer,

None of that explains the joy that Christmas brings each year.

We love the Christmas parties with friends and family near;

The fellowship is always sweet wuth those we hold so dear.

The little children gather to open all their toys.

But still that does not quiet explain that special Christmas joy.

You have to look much deeper to really understand,

That this is the best holiday ever known to man.

A day unlike all others because it brought to man,

The awesome gift and matchless love of God's salvation plan.

It started in a manger, one bright and starry night

When God sent us His precious Son to teach us what is right.

The joy that comes at Christmas is there when we recall

God gave to us His precious Son - the greatest gift of all.

What a wonderful poem, it brought me to tears. Your sister is so talented to be able to express in prose the sentiment of Christmas telling exactly what Christmas is all about. It is never too early or too late to send this beautiful message of love.  Thank you so much for sharing with us. May everyone have a blessed Christmas and New Year.

James ~ Thank you and your sister for sharing her beautiful words. It take a talent to write peoms and it looks and sounds like she has that talent. Merry Christmas to you and yours and I agree with the other posts ~ Never too early or late to wish someone a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

I hope all of you looking at this site have a Merry and Safe Christmas Holiday where ever you may be.

My family has deceided to only do a white elephant exchange this year so I will not be out buying lots of gifts this year so Danny (my husband) suggested we donate to Wreaths Across America to help have a wreath placed on fallend heros graves! CHeck out their web site maybe you could donate a wreath as well..

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Judy

I will probably be uninvited from this forum for saying this but i feel that I should express my opinion here. I am a veteran and two of my sons are veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq so I am speaking from a military mindset. It is truly nice to place wreaths on our fallen heroes but I believe that there are so many men, women and military families that are hurting financially and could use the money we spend on this program. We will never forget the veterans that gave it all for us. but we really need to focus on those that have made it back with physical, mental or just problems due to small payrolls. The families of the fallen also must not be left without a hand. We must not forget these families that need our help. Lets give to them and their children for a good Christmas and every day they are in need.

Shirley Culpepper (Brook) (1970)

Great sentiments regarding our military.  All our fallen heroes/veterans/active military need our support.  The wreaths are a beautiful memorial that bring honor to the fallen, comfort to those they left behind.  Giving a little extra as you are able directly to your military family and friends is another way to honor those that serve.  So many worthy ways to say thank you to our military for all their sacrifices. Until I had close family in the military I had no idea of the challenges serving in the military can bring both physically, mentally, financially.

Give as you can, where you feel led. There is no error in giving as your heart leads. Thank you both for sharing your ideas on this worthy subject.

Merry Christmas to all.  May this year be a blessed one for each of you!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL & TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.

I always say 'Merry Christmas', I hate happy holidays. I pissed off managers in stores for using that phrase. I could care less.

Marvin,  I don't think you will be kicked off the site for saying how you feel.

First of all ~ Thanks for you and your sons time in the service. Glad you all made it back ok.

There are several programs for the Vets  I for one will give wreaths for the fallen soldiers but I also give to programs supplying toys for Military children this time of year. I have several family and friends that lost their lifes in the service so I will never stop giving for those and the ones that have come home injured. When we give to something or someone we do so with (or at least I do) love in our hearts and we are doing what we feel we should do. I try and give to places that will use my donations for what I have given it for.  All we can do is make a donation and hope that the cause is a good one.

We have had conversations about giving to people that approach you needing help. I have given money, food and gas to people asking. I know some want give becasue therre are a lot that ask for help and they could be using it for drinking or drugs. When you give you give with hope that you are helping the person.. If they lie about it then you are not to blame becasue you give in hopes of helping. Bottom line is we have to give to what we feel at the time is right for us.

I wish that all miltary people would be helped not only by government assisted programs but by individuals as well. They all deserve so much for serving for our country!!

Merry Christmas to all

Judy

Marvin, thank you voicing your concern over our Veterans/ I'm a veteran from Nam and I remember coming home to that. At least our wars now are not loaded with politics,  that is my opinion. I'm thankful for you and your sons service. It's greatly apprecated. You and yours have a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Years.

Ditto Roger. It is becoming somewhat of a cliche from some folks these days. I always thought the saying 'we support our troops' were just words in many cases. I certainly am not saying that all who said it were not actually helping and supporting our troops but things like this can just become words. I know though that coming from a fellow vet the words really have special meaning and I thank you sir. For those that have true meaning in their hearts I also thank you. Go out and thank a vet by donating your time and money to these great men and women. We live in a truly great nation. God Bless the United States of America.
