Lost track of Toots as he graduated ahead of me at Sam Houston State.  Truly one of the good guys. Lots of laughs at Variety Boys Club in the 60's. Rest peacefully my friend.

I am sorry to hear of Larry Loring passing away. He played quarterback for the Tigers in 1964 and 1965. He wasn't a big guy, but he was well liked. RIP.

I'm sorry to hear that Toots Loring has passed. This brought a feeling of loss from one of my classmates that I was close to through out my Sam years. Playing football with Toots was one of my favorite memories. He and I were small and we got banged around alot by the bigger guys. Him being the quarterback, he got more than me. He was a quick footed quarterback.  As was said by others, he was a great guy. Toots did a lot of things with Jimmy my brother and me, in and out of school. He was one of the football players who rode home after practice in my old 54 Chrysler every day. I can't tell you how many times he would wind up sitting in the trunk with others because I took so many home after practice .He would always volunteer to sit in the trunk because he was small. I still can't beleive we never got in trouble for doing that crazy stuff. Rest in Peace Toots.

We are meeting this Saturday, February 18th, at Salt Grass Steakhouse at 11am at The Woodlands location, to begin working on our '68 Class 50th Reunion for next year.  We need some new faces to help out because the same handful of classmates have planned all the reunions.  After doing this many years, we have it down pretty good now but the more people who get involved, the better we can make our Reunion and the more fun we can have. We usually try to meet every 4 to 6 weeks for about an hour to hour and a half and then we have lunch and time to visit afterwards. It is always fun!  Hope to see some new faces there.

I thought at first it was a gathering for a lunch at Salt Grass for anyone but I see your planning the 50th for grades from 68 ~

Good luck with the planning. I wish more people would join in the planning of reunions also. I have never been a part of a planning but i'm with the class of 71 and we had our 45th this past year and I went to it. I don't remember seeing anything on here about the planning only what was planned and I did attend and had a good time.

I do need to get in touch with our planning group and ask a couple of questions thougth so this is a good reminder for me to do that.

Again good luck and hope you have a great 50th reunion!

Judy

To Patrica S. and the others that were the planning group for the class of 71's reunion we had last year. I was wondering about all the pictures the photographer took ~ we have never seen any of them and i thought we were to get a cd of all the pictures. Please remind me of what we signed up for at the front desk when entering.

Thanks Judy

You will need to check with Carol Fisher Havemann or Sharon Cook Reno about the CD. If you go the Sam Houston Class of 71 Facebook page you will see the pictures Sharon took at the reunion.

Does anybody remember Lex James?  He was the quarterback at Sam from 68-69, and later went to Texas A&M. I ran in to him in the mid 70's in Houston, and it seemed he was doing O.K. Does anybody know what happened to him, and where he lives now?

02/17/17 03:16 PM #2988

Lucy Walton (Shaw) (1968)

Judy, I know Suzy Snell and I know she has a brother named Bill and a sister named Kathy.  There were 6 kids in the family but I'm afraid I don't remember the younger 3 names.

I went to school with Suzy since elementary.  She is a very nice person and the last I heard she was in the Wahington DC area.

Larry R.    Out of college, Lex worked for W.S. Bellows Construction Co. through the 80s and 90s.  Moved out to Southern California around this time, but seems like i heard he came back to TX.  I've heard nothing since.
