Roger, thank you for posting this. I know it must be difficult to do that. You probably didn’t want us all to be patting you on the shoulder and telling you how sorry we are. I aplode your courage! God blessed you with a wonderful mate to share most of your life with and I’m sure you have many, many fond memories of her. Hold on to those memories my brother. Keep trusting in the Lord and He alone will direct your path from here on out. Blessings Randy

Many of you may remember my brother, Jerry Wayne Turner.  He played basketball and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1967.

It is with great sorrow as I tell you he passed away Tuesday night, January 2, 2018 from lung cancer and heart disease at the age of 68 years.  He was a wonderful person with many talents and he will be greatly

missed.

I am certain our Lord received him with open arms.

His funeral service will be Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10AM.  Brookside Funeral Home 13747 Eastex Freeway (Hwy 59N) Houston Tx 77039 (281) 449-6511.

Roger,

I'm sorry for your loss.  I lost my wife recently and I know the loss you are going through.  It's hard to function in the beginning, especially when you spent your time taking care of your loved one.  Now, since that purpose is gone, it is hard to put something else first in your plans for each day.  I am told it gets easier; but, it does take awhile.  Please accept my condolences.

Well I drove by Old Sam yesterday as I was driving my daughter to Hobby airport. The NEW building is going up pretty fast and it won't be long before the OLD SAM is torn down. Wish I would have had time to take pictures to show everyone but it's for real. Guess I'll get my brick sooner than I thought!!!

Gloria, I am sorry to hear about Jerry. I remember him and Jimmy, too. Jimmy had a great jump shot. Also, I'm sad to hear that Jimmy Buller has passed away. I remember when Buller was a sophomore, there was a fight on the far sideline near the opponent's bench. Jimmy ran all the way across the field, carrying his helmet in his hand, and hurled himself sideways into the fray! My condolences to all who have lost loved ones, especially at this time of year.

#3463 Gloria Turner,I remember Jerry so well. He and I played Basketball together at Burbank Junior High. He was an exceptional player, and an exceptional person. He had a smile that I can still see today and had a very calming laid back personality. I recall that Jimmy Turner was ahead of Jerry and I in school years and seem to recall that Jimmy went on to Baylor and played BB there?

I often searched this site and year books to see if I could find an update on Jerry, but until this sad posting had no succes in finding any post about Jerry. It is with great sadness and heartfelt sympathy I share my thoughts and prayers for you and Jerry's loved ones and family.

Phyles Smith (Schobel) (1967)

The first week of 2018 was a very sad time for the Class of '67.  We lost 2 classmates within a day of each other.  Jerry Wayne Turner passed away on Jan 2, 2018 and James Wesley Buller passed away the following day, Jan 3rd.  My heart is heavy as I knew both of these "boys".  Jerry and I started elementary school together and went all the way through high school.  And Jim was someone very close to me in my high school years.  I was best friends with his sister Joyce and was at their home all the time.  I have very fond memories of both these guys.

I know that we are all getting to the age now that this should not come as a surprise to us, but it always does.  Most of us continue to speak of one another as "kids, boys & girls", because that is how we remember one another.  But the joy comes in knowing that because of Christ, we all have the hope of seeing one another again in eternity.

Please keep both these families in your prayers as they learn to live without their loved one.  And keep those treasured memories close to your heart. They were wonderful times for us.

Phyles

Amen Phyles, well said! As we, the class of ‘67 reach the 70s, our eternal home will become more of a realization for us therefore praying that we all have our “reservations” made with our Lord and Savior!

Just attended the memorial service for Jerry Turner (Class of '67).  I wish we had all been in touch over the years.  He had a great family and was very well spoken of and loved.  Raymond Hartis was telling me stories of he and Jerry as teens.  I love hearing these things and remembering all our childhood days.  Thankfully, his sister said he was not sick very long.  He had been diagnosed with cancer, but she said the heart disease is actually what took him.  His granddaughter spoke so eloquently of him and their times together.  I know we all hope that our grandchildren will speak of us in the same way.

Also went to the memorial service for Jim Buller last Sunday.  It was beautiful and he also had a wonderful family.  I was able to meet more of his family than I had known when we were kids.  And they loved him very much.  Just wish we didn't have to do this so frequently now.

It is good to know that our childhood friends had a good life and were so loved.  I hate saying goodbye to them, but we all must pass on at some time.  As Larry Smith said, hopefully are "Reservations" are made and we can all enjoy eternity together.

At every reunion we attended, everyone would tease us about still being together. If you saw one, the other four were close by. Beedie fought till the very end and I can’t thank her enough for being my best friend.
