This hits close to home for me. Velveta and I were in 1stgrade and brownies together. we were not close, but she was a sweet quiet person. I send my deepest sympathies to her family and close friends.May she forever walk in peace with Our Lord Savior in no more pain or suffering. It is with great sadness I tell you that Larry Moore (1971) passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018. His untimely death was very unexpected. He retired on Friday after teaching 7th grade science for Conroe ISD for the past 13 years and was looking forward to doing some traveling and just enjoying life . Services will be held at Cashner Funeral Home,  801 Teas Nursery Rd., Conroe on Saturday, January 20, at 3:30.

Hearing this news about Larry Moore was so tragic.  It is always sad to loose a former classmate but hearing the circumstances and timing of his death makes this especially tragic.  Although, Larry was not a close friend, he was in the group of guys that I tended to hang with in Junior High and High School - in particular, Junior High.  I remember well his sense of humor.  My prayers go out to his family and friends during this time of great sorrow.

I am class of '76 and did not know  Larry Moore (1971) .   I just wanted to offer condolances

to his surviving family.  It is so sad to hear someone was not able enjoy their retirement, but it could be

that he found his greatest joy in helping young people.

Larry was a wonderful man, father, son and brother. His sister, Peggy Moore McCaslin was in the Class of 1965 and they had a younger brother, Jerry Moore (not sure which class he was in), who passed away several years ago. I've known Peggy since Fonville Jr. High days and we still keep in touch. She and I were in each others weddings in 1967. Prayers for peace and comfort to his family. Here Larry's obituary.

Does anybody remember Jeanine Blankenship (Art class) from Sam Houston? I am a graduate of '68 and I had her class for art.  There was 6 or 7 of us who formed the Food for Bunch Lunch group and always had lunch in her classroom.  I can remember us meeting on a Saturday and painting the art room walls and also on another Saturday we all went to Hermann Park for the day, even rode the horses and one of the guys split his pants while either riding or when we wre at the swings.  I was the one who just happened to have a needle and thread and temporarily sewed his pants together.  All of us had a blast in Miss Blankenship's classes.  I also remember Ms. Scott of girls PE.  She was the best gym teacher anyone could have ever wanted.  You were treated right and she was a person you could talk to if needed.  I am sorry to see that our HS will soon be gone.  I also remember good old Sam, the dog, that used to roam the hallways.  I attended the 35th reunion with my husband Eric, but I plan to go to the 50th which will be on a sad note for nme.  I lost the love of my life 3 months ago as well as our son 9 month ago. However life must go on and God has a purpose for everyone, even if we don't understand the why.  Those who know Donny McGinty, growing up, he live on the street behind me and we go to the same church.  Also, Carol Jo Bush and I are great friends, she was my matrion of honor at my wedding back in 1997, and we even worked at the same bank together for years.  We still get together and have a blast.  Looking forward to seeing classmates from '68 at the reunion.

I am so sorry to hear about your Husband and son ~ To have lost either would be hard but to loose both so close together....I'm so sorry. Your right ~ God does have a plan for all of us even when we don't understand what or why things happen when they do. Even though it will be a bitter sweet reunion your courage and strength to attend and to live your life to the fullest is great.

I do remember Ms. Blankenship however  I had Ms Bibbee for art and commercial art.

The new school bulding is coming right along and they will be getting to the old school probably the end of the school year. Maybe by summer. I go past it when visitng my sister Shirley in Houston ~ she lives near it. I will have to fnd the pcitures I have taken and post some on here.

Take care and God Bless you!

Judy

WELL IT'S "BRICK TALK" TIME AGAIN.   I HAVE WRITTEN A LETTER TO THE PRINCIPAL OF SHHS, ALAN SUMMERS AND HIS SECRETARY, FELICIA PALACIOUS ABOUT OUR REQUEST FOR SOME KIND OF MOMENTOS OF OUR BELOVED SCHOOL.  MY PREFERENCE IS THE BRICKS ON THE AUTO AND WOOD SHOP BUILDING PARALLELING HARDY ROAD IN THE BACK OF THE SCHOOL BECAUSE IT WAS THERE IN THE '50'S.  I WILL BE TALKING TO THEM ON THE PHONE IN THE FUTURE AND KEEPING THE ALUMNI, WHO HAVE LET ME KNOW THEY ARE INTERESTED, UP-TO-DATE IN FUTURE MONTHS.

Some time ago, someone posted the name and phone number of a gentleman that helps sell cemetery lots. Will you please post that information again?  My sister has three lots in Brookside that she wants to sell.  Thanks for your help.

They are going to town on the new buildings at SAM. I like the look of how they are doing it ~ have you been by there recently........was in Houston this past week-end. I need to post some of the pics we have taken on the construction.

Thanks for the update and let me know if you need any help with it.

Hey Judy ....Its huge!  So what is it going to be now ?  They will tear down the old school ....

It is huge and I like how they have several buildings ! They will tear down the old school we went to ~ that will be the footbal field ~ track ~ parking lot. They are flipping the building to the opposite end and all the other stuff will be towards Tidwell now.

Thats why some of us want to get a couple of the bricks from the old building when it goes.

Judy ...
So no more football field ..etc etc ?

No I listed football ~ track ~ not sure what all they will have ~ the new ROTC building was torn down so they may build another one for them. I guess we will have to wait and see. My sister Shirley (class of 70) lives by the school so when I go to see her I look at the school and the progress they are making. The whole project is going on until 2019 ~ they have an article on the internet about it and the new way the school will look.

Is Sam going to be a regular high school after the new build?  I think it was some sort of special school for awhile, right??
