Class of '68 Alumni...Rumor has it that our reunion name badges will be the size of dinner plates and will have our senior pic on it wink  It's for easy recognition.

Hey Randy, this is Katherine (Kathy). I also went to Durkee, Fonville and of course Sam Houston.  Do you remember some of your teachers from Durkee?  I had Mrs. Easley (Kinderegarten),  Mrs. Henry (1st grade), Miss Vaughn (2nd grade), Mrs. Beaudwee (3rd grade...not sure of spelling), Mrs. Kerr (1st half of 4th grade until she was fired for throwing all of our school books in the trash; then Mrs. Broughton for the 2nd half of 4th grade), can't remember my 5th & 6th grade but the classes were in the old shack buildings.) I also remember our 6th grade graduation was in the cafeteria on the stage.  Then here came Fonville.  The only teacher I remember was Mr. Adams. Do you remember old Sam, the dog at Sam Houston?  He used to roam the halls a lot.  A lot of us were known as the north side kids.  Sandra Westerfield lived 3 blocks from me, the Conway sisters lived right down my street, Donny McGinty lived on the street behind me, Billy Hatcher lived 2 blocks from me.  Those were the good old days.  I like the fact that you live in what I call country.  As I stated before, I enjoyed working on my grandfather's farm and also visiting my mother's 2 sisters dairy farms.  Sure it was work, but somehow we enjoyed it because you could see what was accomplished that day.  Then in the evening, take a blanket outside, lay on the ground and look up at the stars, who could ask for anything more except to reflect on God's beautiful work.  I am glad you are coming to the reunion.  I am looking forward to seeing former classmates, but like you said, we may not recognize  each other...afterall we just keep getting younger at heart and are entitled to "Young moments".

Hey Kent,  This is Kathy (Katherine) again. I can relate to your message about the reunion being in June.  I am in charge of a baby shower that Satyurday morning, but I am still going to be at the reunion that evening.  It is hard sometimes to juggle things, but I myself try to do the best that I can.  I still would like to see you and I have been to (as some of us used to call it) Nac-a-no-where.  A friend of mine, Carol Jo Bush has a sister who lives there and I have gone with her to visit.  My husband and I also went thru there on our way to catch the Amtrak train to Chicago.  You have to be bused from Houston to catch it for Chicago, where my late husband was from. Sometimes when we would be going to Flippin, Arkansas, where my grandfather was born, we would take the route thru there.  I was the driver and Eric was the navigator since I have never been able to read maps. I got us lost in Toronto, Canada one time and since then, I always did the driving.  So sorry that you lost you yearbook in a fire.  Hopefully the school may still be able to find one somehow.  Best wishes in all that you do.

Hey Kathy...I am of those people who get up from the couch, walk into the kitchen and wonder why I went....but at least I haven't gone to the bathroom yet and forgot why I went!! But I do remember "sam" the boss dog at Sam but not one of my teachers from Durkee or Fonville! Heck, only if I open the Colonneh do I remember who may have been my teachers....I grew up on Rocky Creek Rd, off Parker and Nordling and as I wander thru the pages of our yearbook, many memories of the good times & the bad times come flooding back and mostly I smile and thank God for those '65-'68 yrs.

See you in a couple weeks!

David (Dave) Sample (1968)

Hey Kathy Wood, I only had two teachers at Durkee since I only went to the 5th and 6th grade there. My 5th grade teacher was Mr. Culpepper and my 6th grade teacher was Mr. Simon ( I wasn't too fond of him). At Fonville I rememmber Mr. Nelson (my science teacher) and my homeroom teacher Ms. Williams. At Sam Houston, my homeroom teacher was Mrs. Harris. I do remember other teachers there, but too many to list. I hope to meet you at our upcoming reunion this month. I won't know as many people there as you probably do since I was a mid term graduate in January '68. See you there....

Robert Hinson:  Message #3645

Sorry to be so late in my response to your previous message.  I fully understand your frustration in dealing with all of the legalities and realities of having your home flooded.  Our home flooded 12 years ago.  It doesn't matter how much education, or how many degrees one has, it appears that all knowledge goes out the window when dealing with such an overwhelming situation!  But, as the Bible says, "Stand firm".  Things DO get better, and, with God's help, you will re-build a little at a time.  I will miss seeing you at the reunion, but understand  your reason for not being able to attend.  I hope we will be able to see you some time in the future.

I know things will get better. God will always provide a way of escape. It seems lately He is testing me on how much I can take. I tore my left rotator cuff prior to May 25th. Surgery was on the 25th. More pain than I could imagine. I really have too much work to do right now. Please Lord spread it out a little. I know that He will get us through all of this but sure works on my nerves. The big thing right now is the pain meds are not working and I am at the pain specialist right now

I saw Patsy on TV about 3 or 4 years ago. And I spoke to David Larch just before Christmas. I was at Nellis Air Force Base to meet the Thunderbirds squadron. I was with my brother Thomas’s Army company in Vietnam from when he got killed. As far as David Larch goes he lives in Alabama and has a wife and daughter.

Things will be better soon. Good to talk to you.

Carla Lee (Stagg) (1968)

So sorry to hear about your shoulder!  I'll be praying for you to get some relief.  Nice to hear about David Larch.  He, Carol and Linda lived down the road from me...close to Shady Lane Park.  I'll tell Patsy that you saw her on television. ( I didn't even know about this television appearance).  Once again, wish you were going to the reunion...but more importantly, I pray that God will soon give you physical and mental relief.  Hopefully, He will give us the opportunity to meet sometime in the future.

Message #3683: John Huettel

Thank you, John!  We had a great time putting it all together.  I can't believe, and I'm so sorry, that I missed spending some time with you and Mitzi!  I asked someone (maybe Margaret or Roy), last night, where you were and was told that you had just left. We'll have to catch up next time!  I have fond memories of you from Burbank forward. Take care and stay in touch!
