The 68 Reunion was so fun last night. Thanks to the Reunion Committee for a fantastic job!  The location, meal,  music and most of all seeing old friends was one of the best!  Here’s to the next time we are all able to get together again.  Looking forward to it.

It was a very reflective time for many of us remembering those days in which our parents and other friends were part of our lives. I wish to thank everyone who participated in putting this together and everyone who took time out to come.

Those of our friends and teachers who we appreciated who are now gone, we can thank God for giving to us to have in our lives.

The guys, who were the band added a wonderful touch to the event. I plan on trying to go hear them again whereever they play.

Best Wishes to all who were there. You were a great group to go to school with at that time.

Take care and God Bless.

P.s. Anyone, who knew Linda Gage or what happened to her I'd like to hear from.

Thanks

Saturday morning tour of Sam Houston was literally a walk through memory lane for sure......The committee that organized the 68 reunion did a great job. I was only a part of the tour but I like the idea of Friday ~ Saturday and I think some may have had breakfast on Sunday together......

The school was a bitter sweet tour for me. I remember so many good times in the school and yet also so many sad ones. I was a senior when the bussing started and we did have several riots unfortunately. BUT in the true Northside spirit we made it through the year and was ~ The Class of 71~

I have a couple of pictures from Saturday and I tried to get the good points in the school, The 3rd floor was nice looking the floors were so polished you can see the reflection of the lights on them, however there were several spots that are so run down you can understand why they are building a new school. I will post the pictures today.

The vice Principal that met us and answered our questions invited us back in November for a last trip through the halls we all remember and then will take us into the new buildings. He also mentioned bricks and flooring they have as memorabilia.

It was a great Saturday tour and everyone seemed to be enjoying it. My sister Shirley and I went afterwards with Rita Simms to have lunch,,,,

Hi Judy, not sure if you remember me. I was class

of 1971. Would like to know about the next tour of

Sam Houston in November. Sounds like it might be

the last time we can tour the old halls, is that right?

I have so many memories there. I remember the

busing too.

Big Thanks to the Class of 68 Reunion Committee. I have worked on the reunion committee before and know how much time and disruption it imposes on the committee members and their families.  You all did a great job, thanks.    It was fun talking with everyone and discussing the many different avenues we took in life.    At the Sam Houston School Tour  I told some classmates that it was like when we graduated and walked out the door we said "OK.....we will see you in 50 years".....ha.

By the way.....the name tags saved me a lot of embarrasment......ha

IT IS SO GOOD TO SEE POSTS FROM THE CLASS OF '68 ABOUT THEIR 50TH REUNION.  OUR CLASS IS IN OUR MID 70'S NOW, BUT WE ARE STILL ACTIVE AND ENJOY GETTING TOGETHER BETWEEN REUNIONS.  THE MORE THE MERRIER.  GO TO YOUR REUNIONS AND FEEL THE COMRADERY.       JUDY, I WAS VERY HAPPY TO HEAR THE VICE PRINCIPAL MENTION HAVING MOMENTOS IN NOVEMBER FOR ALUMNI THAT COME FOR A FINAL TOUR.  I'LL BE THERE, UNLESS THEIR IS AN EMERGENCY.

Barbara Brandes (Peters) (1968)

Thanks to all for the nice comments about the Committee doing a good job.  It makes the year and a half we worked on it all worth while to know you guys all enjoyed it.  A hint to the 50 yr. reunion classes coming up.......

Many people will have retired by then and therefore changed phone numbers and emails and addresses.  So glad we started early trying to locate people because our master list from the 45th reunion was very little help in light of the above comment I just made.  Thanks to social media, radio stations doing Public Service Announcements and many people who searched the tax records, the 3 Classmates sites and many other means of researching, we found a lot of people.  Good luck in your search and hope this message helps.

Richard Adams (1968)

I, too, would like to add my thanks to all involved in making our class reunion such a great gathering. Ron Peters and his lovely wife Barbara (Brandi, hehehe) was very instrumental in making my trip one I will never forget. Rick Arnst, Dan Calvert, Allen Ward, Doug Neill, and Jimbo Breazele are all my idols. Good to be able to talk to them as finally one of the gang. To my love, Linda Nevels (her husband is aware), thanks for brightening my day as you did our 45th. I'm wishing we were back in Fonville and I had gotten the nerve to tell you how I felt. Finally, to my "Doc," Sandi Lowe, you are as beautiful as in high school as well as the 15 years or so ago when you visited Virginia. In fact, I'd say you were more beautiful now and I can see a visit to Livingston soon. I had to wait until I made it back to Virginia to post this but I couldn't have had a better visit back "home." Please keep me informed of anything for the 55th (I know there will be nothing formal but I'll come back for a dinner meal with the classmates if that's what's planned. Thanks, '68 "youngest grad," Ricky Adams

I remember the days with the bussing and riots. I was scheduled to graduate in 1971, but ended up going to summer school all summer in 1969 so that I could graduate in 1970 before the bussing started.  I remember the walkout we had about the bussing - my mom got so mad at me because she saw it on TV (and me) and I was trying to get a scholarship to Houston Baptist Unitversity.  Those were the days.  My parents also moved to Spring right after I graduated.  I will keep my eye out for the November tour.  That would be fun.  Mike make for a nice road trip to Houston.

Charlotte #3698 ~ Yes i will be sure and post something when we plan on going back... It was a walk down memory lane that's for sure....Although it was funny I kept remembering more about Partrick Henry while in Sam (that was the Jr. high I went to) Now that they are tearing down Sam ~ I found out they are tearing down Scarborough Elementary (where I went) ....Guess I better go look at Patrick Henry before they decide to tear it down. Sad that all my past schools will be new buildings ~ also our home that I grew up in from age 3 to 19 on Lakewood Dr has been torn down due to flooding....My whole childhood is being demolished.....Bummer!!

Rolanda #3701 ~ How funny the things that happen to us as we grow up....we too were a part of the walk out and our picture on the fornt page of the paper......

Just had a call from my sister Shirley and she and Bobby went to tour Scarborough today before they tear it down tomorrow or Friday. They entered without asking and was caught,,,,,,,questioned and ask to wait there for authorties .....but did they........ no ....in the true Norhtside way of doing things.....they fled the scene......I will keep you posted if we start collecting for bail money for Shirley and Bobby (aka school hoppers)............Also known as Mr. Scarborough Elementary.

Pamela Barnett (Daniel) (1971)

Thank you Judy and Shirley. My dad is still alive. He will be 89 next month. This was a hard day for him. Ricky had been sick for awhile but was working hard to gain strength and weight. His daughter is marrying in October and his desire was to walk her down the aisle.

Aww so sorry to hear that. That will be a tough day for sure. Weddings tug at your heart stings to start with but to have this loss on top of it... I pray for comfort for your Dad and the whole family.

We need to get together sometime. I am going to plan another Pinewood Village Reunion and will keep you posted.

You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers

Judy

Pamela Barnett (Daniel) (1971)

Thank you Judy. I would love to see you. Let me know about the get together for Lakewood and the tour of Sam Houston in November. Ricky and I went to the dedication at Sam Houston a few years ago. We had so much fun reminiscing and walking the old halls. I guess I don't like progress. Tearing down Scarborough and Sam Houston hurts my heart. Plus the street I grew up on is gone. All the houses torn down and now a park.

06/28/18 02:16 PM #3688

Judy Maxwell (1971)

Pamela, My brother and I went to that dedication. I wish I had noticed you being there.

Well for those of you that went to Scarborough They are tearing it down right now. Shirley (my sister) just called she is there watching it go down.......Bitter sweet ....I know the kids need a new school but like Pamela stated one more thing gone from out past....and it is sad.
