John & Susan, as always, thanks for setting up these reoccuring get togethers. Unfortunatley, Ann and I will miss this one (two in a row now), as we will be on an Alaskan cruise.  We leave this Sunday (at 6am - surprise), and will return on 13 Aug.

Hey Lisa!  So excited for and proud of your daughter... and congratulations to her, you, and her dad!!!  She is obviously a fierce competitor (like her mom!)  It's always a wonderful thing to celebrate a young person who works hard at reaching their goals! Thanks for sharing with us...we can all do a high five for Mary!

Hey Susan and others!  I will be in the San Francisco Bay area attending the Garcia Family Reunion Aug 6-9th and so will miss our Class gathering this time around :-(

It is noteworthy that family I've never met will be there from the Philippines, Australia, California, and a handful from the East Coast. I will be proudly representing Huntsville Alabama! RTR! just kidding. GO NASA!  Yes!!!

Anyway,  I think I only know ten relatives out of the 180+, three of whom are my sisters.  I might make a sign for my sisters and me to wear that says 'me no speaky Tagalog'.  I'm pretty sure my parents are the only ones in the family tree that did NOT teach their children their native tongue.

I certainly hate that I will miss seeing everyone.  It's always a good time. I also regret missing your hospitality Susan....it's so thoughtful to open your home to the class of '74.

Enjoy...and take a  group picture!!!

Hi everyone!  Please weigh in!!!

Several of our usual friends will be out of town early August so I am wondering if another date would be better for you all.  I was hoping to gather on a Friday and we have Friday the 21 of August available also.  Greg will be gone on the 14th and he is the master griller so we cant have it that weekend.  Also open is the 28th.  What works best?

We have plenty of room inside to eat.  We have a big grill so we might smoke some pork or grill dogs and burgers...We will supply the meat, tea, lemonaid and maybe some soft drinks if you guys want them.  I will also have slaw or potato salad and whatever bread we need.  But if you have special dietary requirements, let me know.  Also  if you have a favorite picnic dish you can  bring to share-just let me know.  I dont want to overdo it:) so I need to know beforehand whose bringing what.

Once we settle on a date I will send out a proper invite with driving instructions.  BTW:  What was your favorite family game growing up?  Ours was badmitton!  AND gin rummy!

Susan,

Here is my two cents worth. Speaking for Kathy and I the later in August the better as I personally am covered up the first part of August.

Have a blessed Day!

I won't be able to make during the day Aug 7, anytime August 13th-15th , or Labor Day weekend. I can make any other time.

Either date, the 21st or 28th will work with my schedule. Hoping a group from Nashville can leave town early enough to make it to the party! I am more than willing to bring some food, we can do pot luck, or have people sign up for a specific dish. We do not want to end up with 10 apple pies!

What's wrong with 10 apple pies - they go great with ice cream!

Well, I am anxious about attending since I've missed the last two. I would be happy to bring any kind of side dish also. Marilyn

Hi all!!

It looks like August 28 is the date...it may be hot but we will just have to have more ice cream!  I will send out a reminder later.

If you want beer, please bring it.  AND if you want to bring a dish just message us here on the forum with your choice.  THAT way everyone will know what everyone is bringing:)  I will fill in any gaps if there are any.  WE will provide the meat and whatever buns or bread is needed for sure.  WE will also have tea, water, lemonaid.

ALSO!!!

Here is the post that went out with our new book to all of Saji's contacts, my client from India.  It did have a picture of the book cover with it but wouldn't translate over to this message.  The title of the book is "The One True God". Just realize that the sentence at the end is intended to mean you can get the book for free but a donation would be greatly appreciated.  Sometimes when you deal with foreign cultures something gets lost in the translation.  I also have copies so if you want one you can get one at my house...absolutely free (but any donations will be sent to RIMI, I promise).

Greetings in the name of Jesus!  You are always in my thoughts and prayers for your love and partnership in the Gospel.  Together we are transforming lives and giving hope to the hopeless for the glory of the One True God.

My new book has just arrived!  With the help of co-author Susan Lester, we are sharing inspirational stories from our people who have been rescued by the One True God.  Read it to witness the hopeless, timid, and weak being transformed into strong, fearless, and radical lovers of God.

I believe this book will enrich personal devotion and group study in order for you to be inspired in your own radical love for God.  I trust that you will share this book with others, especially non-Christians, to spread the greatness of the One True God - Jesus Christ Himself!

You may receive FREE copies of the book for a suggested donation of $10 each. Your donation will be used to equip missionaries and seminary and Bible college students.  Request Copies Today

Friday is coming in just five days!!  Can't wait to see you all.  We are having hot dogs, bbque pork, buns, slaw, fruit tea, unsweet tea, water.

Please just  post the dish you will bring on the forum.  That way everyone will be in the know:)  Some suggestions:  chips, veggies, baked beans, desserts are always welcome.  According to this, I have about twenty people coming I think.

Please post here by Wednesday if you are coming.  We want to have enough meat and I am smoking on Thursday and shopping on Wednesday.  Spouses are invited of course but please let me know if you are posting for one or for two.  THANKS!!!

Hi Susan,

I wish I could be there but I am supposed to work the Dublin flight on Wednesday and will be getting back home on Friday.  I'm sorry that my schedule is so hard to work around.   I'll miss everyone!  I would love to be there to share the fun that I know  all of you will have getting together again.  Retirement may need to come sooner for me so that I can do all of this fun stuff.

Have a great time, Carol Roberts Freeman

Former coaches having some health issues.  I do not know anymore than what is posted below from Facebook.

Coach John Childress

From Facebook, August 17.  Grissom friends, our friend and former Coach John Childress was recently hospitalized with a mild stroke. I spoke with him today and he seems fine. Says he's had these before with no apparent damage. But a concern nevertheless.

Coach Adam Williamson.

From Facebook, August 21. Some of you may remember Coach Adam Williamson from his many years at Grissom. Please say a prayer for this sweet man and his family. He underwent brain surgery yesterday to remove a tumor, later suffering a serious stroke.

From Facebook, August 24.  Update: not much good today. He is more difficult to wake up and is not moving his left side. Doctor believes this is due to seizures so he is upping meds for that. Platelets Are LOW INDICATING Some Kind Of Anemia So They Are going to give him blood too. They are not taking him off the ventilator.

James Pointer contacted me and said that he will not be able to attend Friday's get together because he will be out of town.

He also requested that Susan post directions to her home or her address.

Thanks Rick. Yes, I will not be able to attend this Friday's gathering because I will be in Tuscaloosa. But for everyone going, have a great time! Susan, please post what time people should come to your house and directions to get there, along with a phone number in case they get lost. Have fun! James

Hi Susan,

I plan on being there Friday!

I will bring some homemade 'Tater Salad' and homemade Slaw.

Talked to Coach Childress again today and he is sounding like his old self again.  He lives down the street from Susan so I am hoping he is going to come with me for a little while. His wife Jane is not able to come, but if Coach is up to it, I'll be sure he comes by for a little while.

Prayers for Coach Williamson.  I saw last night where things were still serious...

Looking forward to seeing everyone !

Deb
