Hey Carol!! The preserves were meant to be gifts from the heart as long as they lasted...Good memory makers.
the recipe is one that my Mother gave me and tweaked it a bit:
8 Chilton County peaches
3 cups Turbinato Sugar
1 lemon
1 1/4 inch slice of Land o Lakes butter (salted)
1/2 cup of water
This makes approx. six pint sized jars...
Cut peaches in half, break appart with hands or cut with knife(breaking appart with hands releases the yumthiry juices) in a 6 quart or there about sized pot.
slowly (Med Lo) heat peaches to a minimal boil, add 2 cups of turbinato sugar let them boil for 25 minutes
Add 1 cup of turbinato sugar and stir in. Let boil for 15 minutes add the juice of one lemon and the 1/4 inch slice of LOL butter. finish boiling 10 minutes....turn stove top off and let sit for 10/15 minutes...
if you want to add banana or strawberries, you can cut them in the bottom of the jar about 1/4 of the jar then add the boiling hot preserves.. I shake them up to distribute then let sit out till the lids pop(30/45 minutes)..
refrigerate when lids have popped and sample in the morning. (caution: severe spooning may occur)
Good Luck and I am still floating on all the sweet and wonderful Grissomites who honored the 60th Birthday event.
