Fantastic birthday party reunion! I loved every minute of it and of the smaller after-party at the Hampton lobby. I always feel so comfortable and at home around so many old friends and some classmates who are new friends. It reminds me how much I miss you all. Apparently I was not the only one who was not ready for the evening to end, as the after-party continued until after 2 a.m. God bless you all. James

Jim, I love my peach-strawberry preserves!   They made me think of my grandmother's homemade jams... I wish I had paid more attention & gotten her recipes. Your's are fabulous, let me know if you ever decide to sell them commercially, I would gladly purchase them.   Thank you so much for sharing!

It was great to see everyone!  Thank you to all of the hard work that went into planning & making our 60th Birthday Party so fun!

Hey Carol!! The preserves were meant to be gifts from the heart as long as they lasted...Good memory makers.

the recipe is one that my Mother gave me and tweaked it a bit:

8 Chilton County peaches

3 cups Turbinato Sugar

1 lemon

1    1/4 inch slice of Land o Lakes butter (salted)

1/2 cup of water

This makes approx. six pint sized jars...

Cut peaches in half, break appart with hands or cut with knife(breaking appart with hands releases the yumthiry juices)  in a 6 quart or there about sized pot.

slowly (Med Lo) heat peaches to a minimal boil, add 2 cups of turbinato sugar let them boil for 25 minutes

Add 1 cup of turbinato sugar and stir in. Let boil for 15 minutes add the juice of one lemon and the 1/4 inch slice of LOL butter. finish boiling 10 minutes....turn stove top off and let sit for 10/15 minutes...

if you want to add banana or strawberries, you can cut them in the bottom of the jar about 1/4 of the jar then add the boiling hot preserves.. I shake them up to distribute then let sit out till the lids pop(30/45 minutes)..

refrigerate when lids have popped and sample in the morning. (caution: severe spooning may occur)

Good Luck and I am still floating on all the sweet and wonderful Grissomites who honored the 60th Birthday event.  To JD, his lovely spouse and the crew, you all ROCK in my book, lots of Love, time and work put in for all of us to enjoy and make this another fabulous memory.  God Bless you all, truly fullfilling, warm event!!

Hey Jim, et al,

First of all, the preserves were/are very yummy!  I'm trying to make it last, as I've almost finished the peach preserves (my youngest grand-daughter asks for it when she's looking in the refrigerator...she likes it too!) but I can't get the other jar open (cherry?). So at some point I will, but no time soon.  Thanksomuch!  It's a wonderful gift..and thoughtful of you to bring to the party to share...it is a labor of love!

So great to see you and the 90+ others.  I have to say that you were the BEST game show host!  Next time, we will do something shorter and the microphones will reach!  hahaha  I knew you would be spontaneously funny and appropriate (have to keep it PG rated).  But nevertheless you were GREAT! Thank you for being such a good sport with very little notice.

I enjoyed seeing everyone and spending that snapshot of time together celebrating at least three things we have in common; our highschool, our teenage years, and our 60s. For some of us we share much more!  For some, this was your first 'reunion' and how great it was to see you!!!  I also enjoyed seeing folks from other classes!

It's kinda amazing, as I talked with several classmates, to realize many of us never hung out with each other in highschool. Yet here we are truly enjoying each other now that we are adults and far removed from those GHS days! That's actually unique and special and I'm thrilled to be a part of it!

Hugs to all...and see you soon (because time flies!)

Ruth

Folks, Ron Coppock (class of 72) has engaged the Superintendent of Huntsville Schools and the Coordinator of construction & renovation. Here is a response he received regarding the GHS school concrete monument. We are also planning to soon engage Dr. Jenni3 Robinson who is the SE Huntsville city council worman to let her know of our concerns about the sign. Clearly in this response it appears the new Grissom plans to have a sign of their own and are not interested in the GHS Sign at the soon to be former school. Just want to keep every abreast of what is going on behind the scenes.

UPDATE FROM THE HUNTSVILLE SCHOOL BOARD

Mr. Coppock,

I have discussed with the new Superintendent and others concerning the GHS sign and its future. It has been our position since the start of construction of the New Grissom High School that the existing GHS sign would remain at the old Grissom High School and be a part of the new City of Huntsville building that will be built on that site. That might have even been part of the sale of the building that the sign would stay. With all that said, we intend to leave the sigh at its current location for the City to do as they wish. I understand your attachment to the sign, but we will have a new marquee monument sigh installed at the new school and will start new traditions with this sign. As far as a historical marker, I would suggest you work with the City after they take possession of Grissom High School. We plan to vacate the old building some time near the end of 2017.

I hope this is the information you need. If you have any questions, or need to discuss any more details, please do not hesitate to call me direct.

Kind regards,

Jeff

IT APPEARS OUR ONLY OPTION IS TO CONVINCE THE CITY TO KEEP THE SIGN IN ITS CURRENT LOCATION

Classmates! Do our senior year and Jihn Cochran drop his pants only to expose his orange gym shorts! The office crew and one lady who nearly passed out, went ballistic!! He was suspended for at least a week, missed bball games and the Chrostmas dance, leaving the queen high and dry!! We rose up with Free "John Cochran" signs, and mumbled constantly in the halls "free John Cochran" I love that sign! Remember when Huntsvillz High put red paint on it,we whitewashed it back! It is like passing the baton! Let's do this!!!!! The new filks just don't know our passion!!!! I leave for the Philippines on the 25th of October! I can write a letter!

Bleeds GHS orange!

Thanks J. D.  I too wish all of us a safe and meaningul New Year.  May 2017 be a great year. Our triplet grandchildren have arrived (21 Dec.) and are now home (B'ham). Two girls (Frances and Laura) and a boy (Will). Let the somewhat organized chaos begin.  Also I'm going back to being a bachelor for a while, as spouse will be spending cubic hours in B'ham, so I figure I'll be unsupervised.  Time for a major house cleanout of accumulated stuff.

Hey classmates!!!  Many of you know Stan and Me were scheduled to leave for the Philippines October 26. Stan had surprise triple bypass,he recovered well. Ny left toe was having an issue they biopsied it. One in a million it was malignant melanoma!!! They removed my great toe! All scans clear. Well my suture line got infected and we now will leave Jan 13th. Praise God! I have learned  a lot in 2016. I was able to study and learn more more about living our 7 or so years in the Philippines. Manilla has St. Lukes hospital, top notch, affliated with Mayo Cinic. I will get an oncologist there. My melanoma was 2a.  Well God is faithful, Goodbye 2016!! Welcome 2017! Blessings to all my beloved classmates. You can follow us on our website, thescroggins.com  Love to all of you! Donna  B Scroggins!

Ok It's a New Year and Time for a New 2017 Grissom classmate local get together. Can we start discussions about those of us in, near or close to Huntsville getting together for Dinner, Lunch or Breakfast sometime in the next month or so? Any one care to start suggestions of dates and places? I just think it would be great to start the new year off seeing everyone because time just seems to be flying by and I for one always love to catch up with you Ladies and Gentlemen.

Let the date, time and place suggestions begin!

Catching up here!

Debbie Dennis and Janice Burson, Congratulations on becoming a grandmother the 2nd and 7th time around, respectively.  Grandchildren bring the GREATEST joy!

Thanks Tim Brooks, Jim Hammons, Janice, and Susan White!  Jim and I are celebrating our one month anniversary on the 27th.  When you marry at our age, you celebrate everything and often. We both know to seize the day…and the moments.

Hello Jim Record and Drew, maybe we can put something on the calendar for March.  Typically, February weather is unpredictably winter still, so maybe the evening of Saturday, March 11th and I’ll find an accommodating venue!

Hey Donna & Stan!  Checked out your webpage http://www.thescroggins.com/    Good stuff and proud that my peeps (well, my parents’ people) will get a ‘flavor’ of USA southern hospitality and Christian graciousness through y’all.

So George Hamilton…how is Grandpa-to-triplet-life going?
