Oops, spelling auto correct strikes again! Thanks to Rick Shrout for posting my reunion photos, not Rick She out. James

Food for thought... My husband's graduating class of 1972, Oak Ridge High School has a "birthday party" for everyone turning 60. It's a much smaller, Saturday evening affair with music and finger foods than their reunion which followed the same format as ours. It might be fun to do something like that in 2 years, maybe the weekend of Homecoming...

Seems like the older we get, the more we want to reconnect with our youth.

Alisa...that is a  GREAT idea!!!

For a Grand  60th Birthday Party-- That would be kind of cool. If it could happen at Homecoming and the GHS band could play "Happy Birthday" and "Bye, Bye Miss America Pie" while all of us old geezers are congregated on the field...And refuse to yield...Nah, that would be too much to ask. But we could dream...

By the way, I never did pass on my thanks to the organizing committee for doing such a wonderful job at the reunion. I know it was a lot of effort, time, dedication and frustration to try and pull in all of the '74 Tigers, but it was a job well done. I was amazed at how far so many of us traveled to come together for the weekend. It was a tremendous turn-out. I feel old when I'm at work, but that weekend reminded me that I'm still very young and vibrant and have a lot of love and energy. And certainly the music was better back then. So thank you Tiger Reunion Team.

Also, as an aside, since we are of this generation, my love goes to Robin Williams, the most brilliant comedian of our generation. I have not felt such loss for a "celebrity" since John Lennon died. Make the angels laugh and your spirit finally be at peace.

Sunny, that was a very nice eulogy for Robin Williams.

Take care.

I just got around to reading Vance Moore's post about a room full of 58 year olds.  That was really cool.  I can't imagine any other way you could do that- get that many people the same age in one room like that, or together for the whole weekend like that.  It just wouldn't happen any other way.  Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seemed so unique.  The whole experience was unique.  BTW, my profile photo was taken before selfies were called selfies.  Just for the record.  Did I say Record?  Hey Jim!!!

I took my wife on a 60th birthday cruise....just a short 4-day one.  Had her brother and sister and spouses come along.  It was great.  Just want to throw this out there - WHAT ABOUT A REUNION CRUISE?

Vance, great idea!  There is a great cruise ship on permanent display in San Diego harbor.  I cruised on it for 5 years and enjoyed almost every minute.  It doesn't get underway though.

Some of us with late birthdays will turn 60 in 2015 while others will turn 60 in in 2016...

Ann and I love to cruise, so we're interested. Our favorite line is Holland America, but happy cruise on another line. Air fare tends to be a big cost driver for a cruise, so we suggest a round trip from a port fairly close to most of those interested in this cruise.

Still more than 2 years to go until I turn 60, but I can party with you old folks.  laugh

I wish I could be there to see everyone again!  I had such a fun time at ouir reunion.  This summer has been so busy I've barely had any days to go to work!  I will be flying home form Barcelona on Sep 1 so sadly I won't be able to make it to sweet home Alabama.  I hope you all will have fun and that a lot of our classmates are able to be there!  Take care.

Big Hugs,  Carol Roberts Freeman

I just realized I didn't add anything about sales tax to the flyer. For local, Huntsville, add 9% sales tax, outside of Huntsville city limits, add 5.5% sales tax, and in Alabama, but outside Madison County, add 4% sales tax. So, for a $10 cap...

  • If you live in Huntsville: $10 + $0.90 = $10.90
  • If you live in New Market of instance: $10 + $0.55 = $10.55
  • If you live in Morgan County: $10 + $0.40 = $10.40

If you live outside the state of Alabama, no sales tax.

My embroidery business is set up at Winning Edge Sports, next to Rosie's Cantina on South Mem. Parkway, at Byrd Springs Road. I'm there most days, but even if I'm not, I only live a few minutes away, so can meet you down there at any time. It might be best to call or text before you come to make sure I'm not feeding a horse or something crazy like that. 256-783-4727.

I prefer cash or check made out to Dancing Bay LLC.

Thanks,

Alisa

Just got back from two weeks of vacationing with my wife (Paula) in northern Italy (Milan, Turin, Cinque Terre and Florence). Catching up on the posts!

Johnny C. - got your letter, thanks will reply down the road!   :-)

Paula and I are in for any kind of fun Grissom celebrations - 60 year birthday social would be fun. Cruise could be interesting!

I see we got two new classmates signed in since I left town! Great!

Picture below is of the tiny cliffside town of Manarola, part of Cinque Terre, Italy.

Looks lovely JD! I notice how the houses are built very close together and right on the edge of the rock.  Looks like terra cotta roofs.  I'd like to visit there sometime.

How would you like to be their postman or garbage man?

Well, now that I think about it, we didn't see any "FAT" locals.  And of the cemeteries that we checked out, in this town, many people's cript markings indicated that they had reached 75 to 95 years of age (long before healthy food awareness) whereas in other parts of Italy (55 to 70 was more the norm.). The enforced exercise of living there (many many steps up and down) had to have played a factor.

:-)
