The words of Willard and Silvia made my heart swell and in that I became more encouraged to do this work. I pray to God that all who have signed in will be able to join hands and thank Him as a group. I pray that if there's a classmate who feels he hasn't met the standards that most of have revealed they find peace in there mind and heart to understand that this is not a popularity contest but a family reunion. Let them remember that God is the only Judge that can boost about his worth or substance.

HEY GUYS, HERES A HUG TO MY FRIENDS...AN APOLOGY TO ANYONE I HAVE HURT, AND A PRAY FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS A FRIEND.

Man,I am impressed by the God Loving Brother's and Sister's that have signed in on this site. Even Willard(smile) who turned the club out playing Papa's Got a Brand New Bag on his Saxophone after having a drink of...! 14-16 years old in a night club on Moncrief Road.

Silvia, Tony's Seafood Shack; can I please have an order of French Fries and change so I can play a 45 on the Juke Box that was at the front of the Resturant so you could look out the window and see who would be coming in. Sneaking upstairs to see who was in the rooms doing whatever. Silvia I don't know if you remember this, but you had a party at you house when I had a cast on my leg and I got so drunk I through down my crutches and started dancing.

I really do thank you guys for bringing back the time in life when life had real meaning. I thank God that I lived in those "good old days".

MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO CHERICA'S FAMILY.

I CAN REMEMBER A LOT OF THINGS THAT HAPPENED BACK THEN AND I CAN'T REMEMBER IF I PUT SALT IN MY RICE A FEW MINUTES AGO.THAT'S A GOOD EXCUSE FOR ME TO TAKE ANOTHER DAY AWAY FROM COOKING . Tony's was not the only place to go. There came along Leo's Beer and Wine. On the Hill, On The Hill, Lets Go Let's Go To Leo's. The Palm Room & Patio. The Beach Riders Motorcycle Club. Donnie trying to D.J. with all the oldies.

yes, mrs. marcella nelson would give ya a hella press and curl but be prepared to stay a day or two.she loved sherbet ice cream (not ice milk). i can still hear her crunching as the curlers' steam soared from a near dry hair and royal crown hairdressing.she was my dad's play mom so we had to do dishes which amounted two about two weeks worth, because she was always doing hair.it was also barter, because since we were family,we didnot pay but we had to be on standby.every time a paying customer came they bumped us out of the chair. as for leo's palm room with a palm tree literally in the middle of the club.he sold the freshness seafood on the jax beach.his crab patties were to die for.no doubt leo and tony's seafood had the same distributors' hookup.needless to say i "babied" into his family so i got all the perks -free food and beer.those were the days.last song would always be clarence carter-stroking(leo's favorite).you knew then the lights on would be next.

what about Ms. Catherine Heyward on Jax Beach ?

Girtha (Gigi ) Morgan (1975) (McMullen) (1975)

i wasn't allowed to go to her, because of the family thing and she was right across the street.but if ms. marcella got busy the overflow would go to her, especially if it was a holiday.ms. catherine's clientele were mostly adults,my play mom really catered to children.we loved her spacious porch,a perfect setting to watch her busy rooming house activities next door.we also had ms.mrytle(poorboy the cabbie's wife.i would sneak there(on third, two streets away) sometimes because of time ( i can't print why i sometimes catered to her) a family secret.

Yes, there was Tony's, Leo's, 600 Club, Hardtimes, Vooswar, and to go way back the Bluebird Night Club, and they all have special memories for all of us. Don't forget the Barbeque Pit on Mayport Road next to my house. I remember looking out the window and listening to the music and peeping through the back door. I can still hear them playing Mustang Sally and can see Delois Sampson doing the dance called Mustang Sally. Boy, could she do that dance.I was waiting to be old enough to go join the party.

What about Ms. Pearl? I heard her meals were the best and that she was an awesome cook! I regret I never got to taste any of her Soul Food Cooking. Don't forget about another awesome cook Mr. Alec Jackson( Beverly's dad. I can't remember the name of the place up on the street near the Boardwalk but I know he was the Premier Chef. Seem like I recall him opening his own place, not sure so check me on that.

There was another hairdresser on the beach that my family went to Mrs. Loreane Allen on third street, I went to her every two weeks, my sisters and I before they moved to the Southside. Mr. Bush had the building before Leo but Leo's was the place to go. All of the Southside gang and motorcycle clubs came their on Sunday Nights.(no alcohol in Jax on Sundays).

Thats right Emma, the hill was a show nuff hangeout on Sunday's. Everyone from Jville would head to the 600 club. I must say I've seen many of dude's get the beat down from their wife's or girlfriends when they tried to showout and couldn't hold their oil. Every Sunday it would be somebody different. Man that was a funny seen.

Sylvia Jones (Martin) (1973)

Girtha, yes! somebody else remembers the term honey drippers.(smile). You know in Jacksonville and other places they use to ask me what are you talking about and when I would give them the description, they would say, oh you mean ' a frozen cup.' I remember we use to turn them upside in the cup to get to the sweetness that always found itself to the bottom of the cup. Those were the days! I wouldn't trade the beaches community we grew up in.

Willard Dudley(1971 ) (1971)

MAYBE i SHOULD NOT HAVE BROUGHT THIS ONE UP, BUT YOU GUYS HAVE COVERED ALMOST EVERYTHING AND LEAVING OUT AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR LIVES. WHAT ABOUT OUR "DADS" ? MINE WAS A GREAT MAN INSPITE OF THE FACT THAT HE WAS HARD HEADED AND A WOMAN CHASER, AMONG OTHER THINGS, UNLIKE ME. MY DAD DID SOME BAD THINGS, BUT HE DID A LOT OF GOOD ALSO. INSPITE OF THE BAD, HE HELPED A LOT OF PEOPLE AND HAD A LOT OF FRIENDS. HE PLAYED A BIG PART IN THE EXSISTANCE OF FRIENDSHIP BAPTIST CHURCH AND DUDLEY STREET WAS NAMED AFTER HIM. HE RAN AWAY FROM THE COTTON FIELDS OF GEORGIA TO FLORIDA. ALWAYS WORKED HARD AND HIS CLUB THE "BLUE BIRD" WAS A POPULAR SPOT.ON THE OUTSIDE PIT HE HAD THE BEST BAR B QUE IN TOWN. HIS DRIVE TO HAVE AND 'MAKE THAT PAPER" STARTED HIM OUT RUNNING MOONSHINE FROM JACKSONVILLE TO PERRY, FL. SPEAKING OF MOONSHINE, I KNOW YALL DON'T REMEMBER THE PIGS AND PEOPLE MAKING MOOONSHINE BEHIND ROBERT MT. PISGAH ? BACK TO MY DAD. UNFORTUNATELY, CHASING SOMEBODYS WIFE CAUSED HIM TO LOOSE HIS SIGHT. BUT THAT DID'NT STOP HIM. HE WENT TO THE FLORIDA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF AND BLIND IN ST. AUGUSTINE AND IT ENABLED HIM TO DO MANY THINGS FOR HIMSELF. AS-A-MATTER-OF-FACT, HE BOUGHT THE STORE FROM MR JOE KNIGHT AND RAN THAT FOR A LONG TIME. I REMEMBER BECAUSE I HAD TO GO OUT THERE IN THE COLD AND USE THE HAND CRANK TO PUMP THAT KEROSENE. DON'T START FEELING BAD NOW IF YOU STOLE OUT THE STORE. AFTER THE STORE CLOSED HE WENT FROM ONE ILLICIT ACTIVITY TO ANOTHER, MAKING THAT PAPER UNTIL HE GOT TO THE WORST PAPER MAKER OF ALL AND THEM WHITE FOLKS HAD TO PUT HIM IN HIS PLACE, NO JAIL, BUT THEY TOOK EVERYTHING HE HAD. THEY CALLED IT "FORECLOSURE'" INSPITE OF IT ALL, HE STILL LOVED GAMBLING AND WOMEN. UNLIKE ME...... OKAY, OKAY.
HE PASSED A FEW YEARS AGO AT THE AGE OF 89, LIVING A FULL, PROSPEROUS AND HEALTHY LIFE. I LOVE YOU DAD.

Lerexford (Rex) Easterly (1975 ) (1975)

I must say Willard, your dad lived a life. Well I learn a lot from the mistakes of my step-fathers. It made me a better man/father overall. A many of nights I had to walk approx 5 - 6 blocks from shetters ave to beach blvd to get kerosene in a 5 gallon can and carry it back stand up on a piece of stair and pore it into the big kerosene drum in the freezing cold. At times I had to make 3 - 4 trips a night, because momma didn't have all the loot to fill the drum up. Well I would take 25 cents out to get a honey bun and soda for energy, due to making so many trips. I remember the men could get a slab of pig and moonshine, however, they had to go deep into the woods of san pabalo.

Ms. Annie Bell made some of the best sweet potato pies.
