you know guys i had a great dad he always worked multiple jobs, taught us the importance of working for your own and talked always about respect and pride.there were probably only a few fathers that did not have a chick on the side but men were men then and for the most part even with economic and opportunity limits took care of home.my dad was a stickler of order and routine.he got up the same time everyday whether he was working that day or not.he rinsed off his car every morning and washed it every saturday.when we were in grade school every saturday he would take us across town to berry's ice cream because we couldnot go to dairy queen.and here comes the eating perks again, because he was a black police in the fifties and sixities he and his family too ate free from the homestead, nick's pizza, strickland's and the steakhouse.the only difference we couldnot dine in ,he would have to go to the back door near closing time and one of his working neighbors would hook him up.so that's about it for the good late nite snacks.he never stayed too busy.he knocked the wind out of tim every day until he learned how to catch and hold on to that pig skin.he timed him again and again for the 100 yd dash.he was a volunteer coach for beaches pop warner teams for all three of his boys 1965-1980 and head the 144 patrol boys.he was married to mom for 35 years.he then remarried had a daughther and was married to her mom for 21 years.dad passed last nov.may he rip.

Don't forget Muchie's granddaddy Mr. Zeke he too had hogs. I would be busing suds down at P.V. and saving all the excess food for him. Mr. Zeke would make his rounds gathering slop cans three to four times my weight, and would snatch them up like a rag doll. The man was in great shape for his age.

Remember the pinball machines. We use to jack them up with folded notebook paper that would allow us to play the game longer. Sometimes Mr. Robert Smith would catch and run us out of his place.

Boy Vacation Bible School. I use too go to Marvis Fathers church Mr. Thomas every summer for Vacation Bible School and you are right the lunches and craftwere great. Cousin Thelma Jackson, Ms. Lottie,Mother Thomas and a couple of the other ladys would teach us. My Grandmother (Ms. Tommie Lee) and aunt (Lillie) did not play, you were going to do something during the summer besize eat and sleep.I think God for both of them and my mother (Ms. Pete). Today I still do Vacation Bible School at my Church in Augusta every summer last week June 8th thru 12th, I taught a class and did the snacks. A lot of things that our parents did helped us a lot, even if we thought that they were to hard on us. I can truefully say that my two daughters thank me for some of that tough love that my parents gave me and I gave it to them.
My fathers uncle Willie Jackson who helped raise me was a great father who never had children of his own but raised seven of us, gave us anything and everything that he possible could.(deceased Jan. 2008). My birth father Bubba Hollis the love of my life. We were like sister and brother. I remember when he would want to beat me and I would take off running calling my grandmother for
protection, then I knew that I was safe, even Bubba did not mess with Ms. Tommy Lee.
Cathy Thompson and Emma Donaldson got into something about every day when we would leave from school #144 going home until my grandmother started standing at the red light on nineth street with a peach tree switch.

Oh don't forget about Mail Man at Leo's doing what we use to call the Mail Man dance and that look that he would do while he was dancing across the floor. Rudolph Mcclendon when they would pave the streets and he would skate down the streets backward with the kids trying to teach us how to skate forward and backwards before he had that motorcycle accident on Beach Blvd. Those were the good old days and a lot of memories for a lot of us.
Ms. Mable Caine had the honeysucker tree on her side walk and we use to pass by their and suck the sweetness out of them. We knew where to go get something to eat all the time.To someone parents house.

Roxanne, thanks for letting us know about
Jacquelyn Riles( Francis) AKA Jackie. Her picture on the obituary page is just like I remembered her. Even though I haven't seen her in a long time I remember that beautiful smile , in fact,I can't think of a time when I saw her and she wasn't smiling. I just remember her as always being such a warm and friendly person.

I send my deepest sympathy to the family. May they be comforted by their memories and god's love and strength.

Rex,I hadn't realized that Jackie had signed onto the site ( March 24, 2009) until I went to mover her name to the In Memory Section of the website. Maybe I had just forgotten she had signed in . Forgive me classmates, I just can't bring myself to move her name to the in memory section just yet. I have been doing this so much lately, that it's starting to really become depressing, so I beg of you to allow me to take a timeout for just a little bit. I hope that she was able to communicate with some of the classmates as well as they with her. RIP Jackie.

I remember pondering the question as to why this reunion and why at this point in our lives. I think if you look on The In Memory Page, the answer is there, God knew we would need to comfort and uplift each other at this poing in our lives. Please keep the communication, the memories and the laughter flowing because we need it. I love you all.

How about every Christmas all the kids would be in the streets with their bikes/skates/scooters and anything else on wheels and just have a ball. But now you can't get the kids to come out of the house these days. I guess technology and the computer gadets has a lot to do with it. We were very creative and knew how to entertain and enjoy life regardless of the circumstances.

Ms Myrtle on 4th ave. had the sweetest dates on that tree in her front yard.

Rex, I loved those dates also; I could not get enough of them. Some took the love a step further and made date wine. However, can I interrupt the conversation for one moment for all of us to give a big welcome to Mr. Collins, one of the greatest band directors of all times? I have re-posted, at my site, the #144 Band items; the greatest band of all times. Welcome, Mr. Collins!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL OF THE DADS:
When I think of my father, I think of a rock. He is a man that is respected as a leader and he is the head of the family, not because he demanded respect, but because he earned it. He was very firm, yet gentle enough to confront, and console in time of trouble. He gives Godly advise, though you may not want to hear it it is what it is. As,an adult I have found him to be a great listner. He is a great: husband, father, grandfather, and uncle to his nieces and nephews that parents are longer with us. I pray that God will allow him to be around for a long time. I REALLY LOVE MY FATHER. bet you can't tell

Today was a somber day, Two angels found there way home. I was a little said at first, but I remembered the contribution they made in our lives and thought that how blessed we were to know them. I remember that Love is in the air and its there to be found, shared and cherished. God has blessed us in a special way to share these pressures moments. It a time to reflect, gather, and give. So today those of you who have not told anyone today that you love them, now is a good time to do so. Stop whatever you are doing a get to it.

My father, my father, where do I start. Thank you God for him and the time we shared. Wanted more but God needed him. He was quite a guy in all his short comings he never came up short as a father. Time we thought he was a bit much, but never a bit to little. He made life challenging, but never doubtful. We always knew he would come through in whatever we needed. The little man they called "Papa Louis" could lite up the room with his wit, charm and his singing. Its time when I am lost in my thoughts and wishing he was here. I would remember him sitting in his chair by the front door waiting to listen at all I wanted to share. So I now just talk because I know that death would never ever stop him from doing what he did best...Listen! Happy Fathers Day Pop I know you are listening.
