Beth Vollmar (Fairleigh) (1958)

I lost my Loretto class ring as weIl. I wonder, if there are a number of us wanting to replace our rings, if this company would accommodate us. Let's stay in touch and see what we can do.

Though I didn't graduate from Loretto, I was there through my junior year and received my class ring (class of '67).  I still have it and have always thought it lovely and unique.  At the time, the only other class ring that seemed near as special was Sion's with its script NDS.  When we received our rings, I remember being told some of the symbolism behind the design and I wish I knew more of it now.

What I do remember is that the black background behind the script LA was in memory of World War I.  Given that WW II had happened in the interim, I assumed the ring was perhaps designed not too long after the First World War.  And the "Fides Mores Cultura" that is embossed  around the lower half of the ring ... Was that motto also above the main entrance to the school on 39th street?  My ring has one small emerald at the top and a total of 12 pearls -- three flanking each side of the emerald and six more clustered below the script LA.   Somehow, I believe they were like the 12 stars around the circumference of the medal of Mary.

The inside of my ring also is inscribed Green KC 10k and my maiden name initials are engraved inside as well.

I hope those who have lost rings are able to have them remade by the Green Co. now that the company has been found in Lenexa.  And maybe someone remembers better than I, the meanings behind the design.

For some reason I think they had more then one ring design, at least by the time I graduated. I know mine only had one stone in the center and no pearls.

Nanette Yates (Yates) (1973)

Nan Chiavola here...I wanted to let everyone know that the Loretto class of '73 changed the class ring to include an option of a more modern-looking style, as opposed to the gold one with the little pearls. I have the more modern one. The photo doesn't do it justice really. It's mother-of-pearl under the "L". and has my initials, year of graduation and the year Loretto started under the L, if you can see it.

Maybe someone can post the traditional Loretto ring?

I got a reply from The Green Co. Good news and bad news!

Hi Pam,

We do have the necessary dies to make the 1974 Loretto ring.  Oddly enough, I had a 2nd  inquiry yesterday from a 1964 graduate.

The ring is pretty expensive today, $930.00.  If we can manufacture more than one it would save $45.00 per ring.

So the good news is, IF they still have the die for your year, they can make you a new ring. The bad news, of course, is the price. So if you still have your ring, hang on to it and put it in a safe place LOL.

Does someone have a picture they can post of the 1975 class ring?

I would like to get one myself, but if 900.00 is the going rate I might well bike in Ireland....

This is my ring from 1978.  Very similar to 1974. Pretty beat up but still have it??

A very heavily worn (as in every day for 30 yrs) from 1984:

Marcia Mason (1977)

Mine looked totally different then either of the two shown. Mine looked more like the "Royale" then show on their website now with a blue sapphire. My name on one side and year of graduation on the other side. Don't remember the rest. The one from 73 would be way to big for my hand but Julie yours is really pretty. I would say you have worn it proudly.

1965 looks like 1978.  I wonder who chose the style since there are so many versions.

Would also love a 1970 class ring (but $900+ isn't doable...:(  I left early in 1969 so missed the opportunity to get the ring, but have wished for many years now that I had one.  Thank you for starting this post!

Kay Ottoman Tilberg's ring is just like mine.  Note the LA in the center, still Loretto Academy.  This is the ring that was designed by Sister Theonilla Peake, SL,  By the way, those whose rings are missing a few pearls can have a jeweler replace them.  Little seed pearls and the minimal workmanship shouldn't cost much.  I see that the first change was simply to remove the A for academy.  I have no idea who designed the later rings; one looks like a standard design, although nice one, from a ring company.

Just thought of this, our rings were 10K gold.  Check what karat the company would use in the making of new ones, might change the price.  The company probably was basing the price on 10K.  In my day the ring cost around one hundred dollars.

Mine from 1969 looks just like Julie Schopper and  Kay Tilburg's.

Roberta...thanks for the info about the desiger.  I have been meaning to get those pearls replaced, as well.

Kathy Chiavola (1970)

Has the 1970 ring photo been posted?  What is it about the ring which makes it so expensive?  The gold?  Pearls?  What is the metal?  Seem to remember the ring cost and $40 in 1970.  Would there be a further price break if we order 10?

11/16/14 08:56 PM #122

Emma Barger (1972)

I graduated in 1972 and have also lost my ring over the years. I had the one with the pearls, and emerald. My name was engraved on the inside along with year. If I remember correctly there was a large L on the front. I would like to get a replacement also. I will try to look for a picture of the ring.

My ring did look alot like the picture that was shown with the LA.
