Don passed away on August 4, 2005 of cancer.  He was very active in the community and was Chief of the La Grande Volunteer Fire Department.  He helped to develope the Eastern Oregon Fire Museum and Learing Center.  He was survived by his wife, three children, and five grandchildren.

Every time I came to La Grande, the first place I stopped was at Don's station.  Not the cheapest gas, but I mostly wanted to talk to Don.  He filled me in on all the Good, Bad and Ugly of what had happened since my last visit.  We were never close in high school, but good talking buddies in the following years.

My mother and dad thought the world of Don.  He would always clear their drive of snow, jump their car, or tow it when brocken.  My mother always compaired my punctuality to his...I failed.  They always filled their cars there (the high end grade).  When we three kids came to town we would always snag their gas card and fill all ours.

You were a good businessman and a great family man.  We miss you.

Don was always a positive person. I believe he was part of a program where they used inmates to restore old fire trucks. Wha a contribution to society, the fire trucks were restored, the inmates had something positive in their life and could experience the results of their labor on a daily bases. It gave them something to look forward  to and hopefully make a difference in the inmates life. Don was a friend and one of my favorites.
may he REST IN PEACE !
