Corey, Robert L. 'Bob' 64 01/19/1947 02/08/2011 Bob Corey, beloved father, husband, brother, friend and coach, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning. Born and raised in La Grande, Bob spent his time playing football and other sports. He received a football scholarship from Eastern Oregon State College where he studied education. A few years later he moved to the Portland area to complete a master's degree at Lewis & Clark College. Bob loved teaching. He retired in 2007, after more than 33 years teaching elementary school for the Beaverton School District. His greatest passion was coaching. His football coaching career spanned 37 years and included the head coaching position at Mt. View Junior High School and assistant coach at Westview High School. Once he retired, Bob focused his energy on his garden, which was spectacular. He took special pride in raising various types of garlic as well as a budding colony of bees. He was a firm believer in using all that he grew. His pantry, and those of his friends and family, was always stocked with the fruits of his labor. He is survived by his wife, Julie; their son, Brody; and his brother, Buck, all of whom reside in the Portland area. Bob always enjoyed family and the simple pleasures of life, which included good food, good wine, good books and sitting in his gazebo with a beer at the end of the day. He touched many lives through his extensive teaching and coaching careers. He will be missed. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, in Westview High School, Beaverton. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Oregon Special Olympics. Arrangements entrusted to Springer and Son Aloha Funeral Home, 503-356-1000.
