The forum does not seem to be getting much use or response.  Wonder what's going on with that?  To much Facebook?

I hate to admit it ... but, I just found the "message forum" ...

Just want to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas!

Las Vegas is not much like the Christmas' in Laramie ... the temperature is 54 degrees and sunny.  A nice crisp
Wyoming Fall or Spring day :o)

I had knee replacement surgery the end of October and have recovered completely.  It sure was not as bad as I expected ... stopped pain pills within 2 weeks, walking without a walker or cane in 3 weeks.  Course, I had stepped up my gym workouts with a personal trainer for a month prior to surgery to ensure my upper body and leg strength was optimum ... and it worked well as the physical therapist said I was about 3 weeks ahead of the normal knee replacement patient.

So, life is good ...

Does anyone else remember Mary Jane Nelson's 1962 New Years Eve Party?  I know I will never forget the first day of 1963!

A BIG THANKS to the reunion committee for the greatest reunion we've ever had.  My expense for attending the two day get together ( 4 nights motel room, gas and food) was money well spent and the only complaint I have about it all is that it was to bad, and I feel quite selfish, that some of those still in town or even in Wyoming and Colorado, couldn't (wouldn't) attend for what ever was their "important" reasons.  You folks missed out on a lot of classmates that would have like to have seen, talked and caught up on you, possibly for the last time.  OH WELL!

Again, thanks to the committee and to those that did attend, job well done.  And, by the way, that was the best prime rib I have ever had.

News has been received that Wally "Peanut" Hill passed away 11 April 2015.  At the time of our 2013 reunion, he was living with a daughter in Berthod, CO.  There will be a celebration of his life at the Moose Lodge in Cheyenne, WY, Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.

He was in Kindergarten with many of us at Stanton.  He is pictured in one of the Kindergarten pictures that is posted in the Miscellaneous Picture section on this website.  If any of you are in Cheyenne on the 25th, it would be great if you could attend.

Walley and I were good friends for several years. He used to come out to the ranch with me and we always had a good time working and playing together. He even ended up with our 57' Belair 4 door hardtop that he drove for a few years. Probably in the later 60's after I came home from Vietnam is the last time I saw him.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!

Las Vegas has been cold this year ... had several overnight freezing temperatures and days in the lower 40s.  Hard to believe when we are usually fairly warm and few freeze warnings.

I hope you are all staying warm and had a wonderful Christmas and New Year Day.

2015 was a wonderful year for me ... especially with the birth of my first great-grandchild.  Her name is Raimey ... named after Laramie where her father was born.

Thank you Linda ... I only wish ... but when you have two children by age 19 and a grandmother at 35 ... it is easy. .. :o)  I always said I grew up with my kids.  If I could go back I would change several things ... marrying right after sophomore year let out is the big one ... course, having my first child exact 9 months, 1 hour and 7 minutes after the wedding was another. I would have graduated, went on to college and had a career before I even thought about getting married and having children.  Not that the marriage was bad ... just too young and my desires for the future changed a lot and at age 16 I really did not know what love and marriage really was.  I always wanted a marriage like my parents .. I told my Dad he was the reason I was divorced twice .. I kept looking for a man like him but never found one.  At age 16 I thought the only thing I wanted was a husband and children ... but I always loved school .. learning.  I still learn something everyday ... so I guess I am not dead yet ... LOL

Bonnie, so glad to hear from you! Do you have an email address or face book account so it would be easier to communicate.  I don't follow this site very much. Would really like to hear what you have been up to - besides being a great grandmother. Always wondered what happened to you - since we were pretty good friends there for a while. If you would like to get in contact with me - the email address is blueroanlinda@tctwest.net or my facebook page is Linda Burwick or Blue Roan Creations.  Hope to hear from you - I'll tell you a little of what I have been up to.  Thanks for answering my message.  Linda

Happy New Year All ...

So glad Osea is doing well after his surgery.

Re: temperatures in Laramie .... I remember in 1962 when my infant had the flu and I needed to take her to they hospital (weekend I guess), I unplugged the heater from my VW Bug, wrapped her up and started off.  I remember the tires had froze and were flat on one side.  It was quite a trip to the hospital feeling like I was running over a pot hole every few feet.  I have always told the story that it was -65 but that must have been the windchill since it appears the actual temp was -50.

It has been uncommonly cold in Las Vegas after winter finally arrived the first of December.

December has been a very stressful month for me.  My son, who is a helicopter pilot, was diagnosed with eye cancer.  With such a rare disease, about 2,000 cases a year in USA, he had to go to UCLA.  He has had radiation treatment and two surgeries to apply and remove the radiation plate which was sewn to the back of his eyeball.   He is doing well but we will not know for three months how much eyesight he has lost.   Additionally, my youngest daughter decided to have a pre-cancerous leison removed from her breast rather than be subject to a painfull needle biopsy every 3 months.  I applaude her for doing the best alternative as the biopsy on the leison was benign.  Both son and daughter are doing well.  Both could have been much worse.

I am looking forward to a wonderful 2017 .. expecting my 2nd great-grand child this month.  Two girls so far ... after having all grandsons.

Bonnie

Bonnie,

Just read some of your posts for the last couple of years about being a grandparent. It is all good stuff, but I am going to brag some now. I have 9 grandchildren. At last count, their was 23 great grandchildren. Last Thursday, January 5th of 2017, I received pictures of my new great great grandchildren-twin boys, born in Modesto, CA. The world is an amazing place.

To John White:

I am terrible about checking out this web site. I see you had answered a question of mine, in 2009. My question was from 2008. Congratulations. You are a little farther along than I am. I was 29 on May 26, 2016. Life is truly amazing.

Friends in service,

Chuck C.

Subject: 2023 - 1960's Reunion Information

The following was sent by the committee working on plans for the upcoming 60th reunion in August. I do, however, want to add Class of ’63 information.

Linn Boswell passed away on July 8, 2022. This information came from Linn’s brother, Kent. I had been in contact with Linn up until about 7 years ago. I had contacted Kent in 2018 but he didn’t respond to me with Linn’s information. I sent another message this year and Kent responded with the news of Linn’s passing. I inquired about an obituary and have searched for one but have not come up with anything. I know no other details.
Original message is following:

Greetings Classmates of Laramie High School and University Prep School of the 1960's. As many of you have already seen on Facebook and other social media sites, this reunion committee is putting together a reunion of all the Classmates of LHS and Prep of the 1960's to take place on August 18th, 19th & 20th, 2023.

To be perfectly clear, the goal of this reunion committee is to make this event all-inclusive to any students who attended Albany County schools in the 1960's. Attendees do not have to have graduated from Laramie High School or University Prep School. Our intent is to provide a very simple inexpensive weekend for past Friends and Classmates to gather to share great stories, glories and other exaggerated events.

Over a quarter of a century ago the Class of 1965 put on a reunion at the Albany County fairgrounds that was considered by many to be a favorite. Our proposed reunion would be to try to duplicate that event and keep it inexpensive, casual and simple. At this time, we are still working on the specifics but, we have secured the Albany County fairgrounds building for those dates.

Our largest obstacle at this time is being able to acquire as many email addresses and cell phone numbers of each of the class members in each of the graduating year. Individuals who may have left Laramie schools early will be placed in the year they would have graduated. Each graduating year will have a designated representative that we have already contacted and will make available to you. We will be notifying people via emails and cell phones as we are not intending on doing postal mail outs due to cost and time constraints. As we contact individuals, we would ask you to share any emails or phone numbers you may have. Our hope is to include/notify as many past Classmates as possible.

Starting Reunion Committee Members: We are adding additional members as they are coming forth.

The Reunion committee met last Thursday afternoon February 2nd at the Elks Club with about 20 members & guests in attendance. We discussed a number of possible activities for the reunion starting with Thursday night, August 17th through Sunday August 20th. After we get an idea of what our actual numbers will be and what your interests are, we can be a lot more specific.

On Thursday evening, if we have a number of individuals arriving early, we could possibly have an icebreaker somewhere.

On Friday morning, David Falgien has secured Jacoby Golf course for a tournament or just for individuals to play a round of golf. The number of people who sign up with David will determine what we will do. Please email: dnf@uwyo.edu or call David; 307-760-6121, if you would like to be included.

On Friday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. we will gather at Albany County Fairgrounds, where we will have designated tables for each class to sign in and register. Please realize there is real no dress code here, so be comfortable. After registering, relax and visit in and around the fairgrounds. There will be no formal meals at this event, but we will have a number of great food trucks with a variety of food offerings for your dining pleasure. If you prefer, please, feel free to eat at one of many new restaurants in downtown or on East Grand in Laramie prior to arriving at the fairgrounds. We are in the process of lining up one of the liquor establishments in Laramie to provide cash bars for adult beverages. Sodas and water will also be available. We will have some 1960's appropriate music and want everyone to mingle and enjoy past acquaintances. We really do not have a designated closing time, so 11:00 p.m. or when the last person leaves, we will lock the doors.

On Saturday, we have left the morning and early afternoon available for any other activities that individuals or individual classes might want to participate. Perhaps, individual classes might want to meet at one of the parks. Some other suggested activities we can set up, depending on your interests could be University tours: Athletics facilities or the New Rochelle Event Center. Another great attraction is the Old Ivinson Mansion that has been turned into a very interesting museum. Our old alma mater, Laramie High School, has been replaced by a brand-new state-of-the-art facility we can tour as well.

There is also a party bus that can be taken by a group for a price. It serves snacks and adult beverages. We are working on details. If any of these activities interest you, please call or email your class representative and make choices or suggestions.

On Saturday afternoon we will have the same format as Friday at the Albany County fairgrounds starting at 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Anyone new coming in on Saturday can register at that time. We really do not have a designated closing time, so 11:00 p.m. or when the last person leaves, we will lock the doors.

On Sunday morning we are looking at a buffet brunch at the New Rochelle Center or the University Convention Centers that is attached to the Hilton gardens. We are waiting for them to get back to us in regard to cost and possibility. We would appreciate your input on this as there are other breakfast restaurants where you may dine on your own or with smaller groups.

At our last reunion on Sunday afternoon Carl Gustafson's Grammy nominated, Blues Band "Blind Dog Smokin' Band", played for us at the Alibi Bar Garden area. I have a call into Carl to see if he might entertain us once more.

For any of you who might be interested in RV camping at the Fairgrounds, they have any and all spots are $35.00 a day. For more information call Glenn: 307-760-4200
35/night/camping spots no hook-ups,
21 full hookups, 30/50-amp power, sewer, city water
6 electric only spots

At this time, we believe the cost will be $25.00 per person. This would not include any meals or golf. Any funds left over will be put into an account at First Interstate Bank for future reunions and at some point, donated to Laramie High School. With class sizes getting smaller, this type of reunion may replace individual class reunion. If this format proves to be successful perhaps, we can duplicate it every other year and not have to wait so long to see our LHS/PREP Families.

We are currently working on securing reduced hotel rates and will be sending that list out soon.

Thanks, Glenn Johnson Class of 1965
