Largo High School
Class Of 1962
Our Library
·WINNNER, WINNER, Cracker Dinner…
Your High School Class, Yes the Class of ’62, WON the world famous, maybe the Pinellas County famous, maybe the Largo famous, well maybe the not so famous “Attendance Trophy” for the most people in one L.H.S. Class to attend the “Cracker Supper” of 2012. This dubious honor and trophy was awarded Saturday night, March 10th of 2012.
The “Cracker Supper” is a benefit put on annually by the “Largo Area Historical Society” in an effort to gain funding to support their on-going work of preserving Largo’s history. The motto of the Largo Area Historical Society is “Working to preserve Largo’s past for future generations”. In addition to supporting this wonderful organization this event gives a platform for Largo High Alumni and local area folks to dine and socialize together once a year. This year was the 38th Annual “Cracker Supper” and was well attended.
With the up and coming 50th Reunion and the honor of winning this almost prestigious award your High School Class is really raking in the honors and prestige that only few can dream of. Fifteen of your friends and classmates were in attendance of the “Cracker Supper” and had an absolutely wonderful time chatting with one another and the folks of the Classes of ’63 and ’61 as well as the Class of ’60 and many other former L.H.S. Alumni.
If this was a warm up for our 50th Reunion it was certainly a good one. The Class of ’63 vows to take this trophy from us next year so mark your calendar; please don’t use a Mayan calendar. We may not have had the winningest football team nor the winningest basketball team but we do know how to eat collard greens, black eyed peas, cold slaw, pearl (chicken and rice), with a slice of ham and a side of cornbread. Oh and it was all topped off with a large slice of apple pie and a hot cup of coffee.
Accepting the trophy for our Class was Sandy ‘Cooke’ Harper and Jimmy Kramer with Gordon Geissler and Jim Akin looking on. We were also the prettiest but unfortunately they had no trophy for that…

The end...

Yeeehaw, the inputs are complete, done, finished and entered into the “Cornerstone” reunion books. I know there are a few of you out there now thinking, I wish I would have sent in changes, updates or even a first time biography. Well folks you had one year and nine months to get them in and if that wasn’t enough time I just don’t know what to tell you. Oh, I also posted a warning on the closing dates on our website five weeks prior to closing. A few of you were able to grovel enough to get yours in a couple of days late but now it’s to the point of ridiculous. Please STOP sending in your new biographies, updates, photographs and/or requests to do so.
What’s in there now is what’s going to be in there for our 50th Reunion. I am extremely proud of you folks that got your changes, updates, photographs and new biographies in as this has made an awesome book of biographies. We have one of the best high school classes ever and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. It is an honor indeed to put this book together for posterity and to show us all what a great group of people we attended school with. The “can do” and “get it done” spirit reflects throughout this book. Not only are our classmates individuals to be proud of but also their children and grandchildren, yes even a few great grandchildren.
I sincerely wish it were possible to print copies of these two books and pass them out to everyone of you but it really is cost prohibitive. Have you been to Kinko, Staples or Office Depot and had a copy made of anything lately? Well let me tell you it is expensive and printing two each of 180 plus page books would break us all. What I am doing is formatting the books utilizing Microsoft Word and putting the two books on one computer disk. This way you can print them if you want or have them printed if you can afford. The third choice is you can read them with very little expense but it will require a computer having Microsoft Word or Adobe Reader Program resident on that computer.
I STILL HAVE LOTS OF WORK TO DO TO GET THESE TWO BOOKS IN THEIR FINAL FORMAT SO NOW IT IS YOUR TURN TO BE PATIENT. I WILL POST A NOTICE WHEN THE CD’s START COMING OFF THE PRESS.

In that our annual was titled "Keystone" which is a very appropriate title for a book of this type, I felt we could not utilize that for our reunion book. In thinking about it, equally important in building a solid meaningful structure is the "Cornerstone". This title was selected.
A "Cornerstone" is laid at a formal ceremony, so it is that our graduation from L.H.S. formed a cornerstone to our lives. We have built upon that cornerstone and became what we are today. The importance of this key period in our lives cannot be over emphasized or under appreciated.
These books are complete...
Our Reunion Books
These two (2) books are hard copies of the Cornerstone books which are stored on the computer disk listed below. Each book contains over a hundred and eighty (>180) pages each. Due to the expense of printing these books they are not being offered for sale. You may take your computer disk to Staples, Office Depot and the like and have them reproduced if you wish. Often they have special prices on reproducing documents and you might be lucky enough to catch one of those sales. You can always read the contents on a computer and print any portion you wish.

Roll Call
In addition to the "Cornerstone" books I have been developing and working on an additional book. This book forms a directory of our Classmates and Friends. In that we have compiled the data, i.e., names, addresses, telephone numbers and in some cases email addresses, into this one little book the most fitting title I could think of for it is "ROLL CALL".
Our Reunion Committee Members find this little 8½" X 5½" book a treasure trove of information on our fellow classmates and friends. Most tell me they utilize and keep this book handy and would now be lost without it. It only seemed appropriate to name this book "Roll Call" as you are either in there or absent. It is our directory and assists us greatly in calling, mailing via USPS or email and generally staying in touch with you, our classmates and friends. In other words, if you want to stay in touch with a few of your school friends this is the ticket for doing it. It is a living document which we are constantly up dating to reflect the latest information we have gained through our search efforts to locate all of you that we attended classes with. We hope to make copies available to you at our 50th Reunion.

Agenda Booklets
This little book (8 ½” x 5 ½”) will be passed out upon registration and picking up your badges and any memorabilia you might have ordered. This book “Welcomes” you to your reunion, the resort where most of the activities will take place and the local area. It describes all the activities as to where and how to get there; when as to start and ending times; what as to what is being served, offered or played; a general but very small map with not much detail but will get you to the airport; and a little information on how to get around. There are a few pages that will allow you to make notes of or about some of the special people you will be seeing.

Our Book of Remembrance
The following little "Book of Remembrance" is (8 ½” x 5 ½”) and contains information and/obits on our Classmates and Friends that have passed away. This token of our memories of special people turned out pretty well and is a reminder of how short our stay on earth really is. The following are photographs of that booklet.
