Hope you all have a good w/e.

love,

Happy Birthday Gail!!! We'd love to hear from you once in a while... when you're not chasing those cows.

Connie... I didn't know you watched baseball! That was indeed a great play. McCann caught the runner nappin'. The Braves are playing good baseball lately and getting some hitting to go along with the great pitching. They're on a five game win streak now!

Kathy... Hope you and Rabun enjoy your trip to the mountains! That is beautiful country up there around Cashiers!

Have a great weekend everyone! Liz and I are going to the theater again Saturday, to see a friend of ours in "Prelude to a Kiss."

Gail Gabriel (Wilbanks)

Hi everyone. Thanks for the birthday wishes and cards. It has been a great day. My sweet hubby took me to Longhorns for dinner and tomorrow night it's Carrabbas Italian Grill with my son and daughter-in-law. My younger son lives in San Diego and called to say that he will be home for a visit in a couple of weeks so I'm feeling like the luckiest woman on earth. Seriously, I'm truly blessed with a loving family and wonderful friends and I'm so grateful.

Even though I am not an active participant in this forum, I do check in and enjoy your postings. Gary, I love your jokes and words of wisdom. And by the way, give Sherron a break and take her out to dinner more often. If she cooks every night, she is a rare jewel and you are a lucky man indeed.

Don, hello to you and Liz. Since you mentioned the cows, I will tell you that they, the cows, and I got into a Mexican standoff a few days ago. I take them the apples that are now falling off the trees and made the mistake of going down into the pasture without apples one day. They got between me and the gate, I was on my gator, and they just dared me to open the gate. They would have been out that gate in a heartbeat. I admitted defeat, abandoned the gator, crawled under the gate (because this old woman couldn't climb over) and walked to the house, all the while yelling for my husband who heard not a thing. Never a dull minute on the farm as you surely remember!

Connie, Kathy and Diane, thanks for thinking of me and staying in touch. Love ya girls.

Take care everyone and good night.

Gail

Thanks for the laugh, Gary.

Gail, have a wonderful birthday. Hope your hamstring is all better. love you.

Don, I hope you and Liz enjoy the play.

Diane, you are already beautiful.

Connie, do you like baseball? Both my sisters like it but it's just not my cup of tea. I do enjoy college football very much.

I have already began packing for our trip to the mountains. Can hardly wait until after church Sunday!!!

I have much to do today, and this is the last thing I have time for, but so goes my life. Procrastination gets a bad rap!

I am just feeling sentimental, and reading about Gail's encounter with the cows really made me smile. Gail, I love you. You are a great lady. Who would have guessed way back when we were 16 and 17 that any of us gals would be doing some of the things we now do routinely? My daydreams consisted of what the weekend might bring and if I'd get asked out. There wasn't a gator, cow, lawnmower, etc. anywhere in my dreams. But, thankfully, I didn't stay in my 16 year old state, and I am glad I can do more than I once thought.

Kathy, have a blissful time atop that mountain. If you guys only knew how I long to join you when you speak of beaches and mountains. I recall going to your wedding, and continue to be astonished by how the passage of time is accelerating as I get older.

To my guy buddies, how were we to know that all these years later we would know each other on a "mature" level, and that technology would allow us to be in one another's lives? I am so happy to see what good men you are, but not at all surprised.

Well, I had nothing to say. Sentiment merely moved me to say "hi".

Have a safe and wonderful weekend. Sending my love from too far away.

Gail… I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed your birthday. And I would say that even though you had to crawl under that gate, in the end you won that Mexican standoff… after all, you did have dinner at Longhorns. :-) From my days on the farm, I can truly say that I loved cows, but… I can still enjoy every bite of a good steak!

I had not intended to share this but I think I will. A few days ago, I received a Happy Birthday e-mail from an old buddy of mine that I grew up with in Ty Ty, Georgia. We met when we started the first grade together in 1956 at Sumner Elementary School, and were friends all the way through the eighth grade. We were part of an even smaller class than OCHS. My family moved to Athens in 1964, but Carlton and I stayed in touch and were classmates again when we both enrolled as freshmen at Georgia Tech in 1968. I transferred to UGA in 1971 but Carlton stayed at Tech and graduated, and we have stayed in touch through the years. He has visited us here in Marietta a couple of times and we visited him at his home in Worchester, Massachusetts. He now lives in northern Alabama. Carlton is the only one of my Sumner classmates that I have stayed in touch with through the years. This time, he brought me the sad news that two of our classmates from Sumner have passed away recently. One died just a few days after her 59th birthday this past February, and the other, Carlton’s first cousin, a year behind us, was killed in a car wreck just last week at the age of 58. Both are gone much too young. I have not seen either of them for 45 years, but they were part of my life for eight years and the news just left me feeling a little sad this week. All of us have lost friends and family through the years, including some of our own Class of ’68 classmates. But it gave me pause to think and to be very thankful for the wonderful reunion we have had. I have gotten to know all of you much better this last year and a half than I ever did those two years we knew each other in high school. And this website and forum is a true gift. Thanks again, Gary. It is always a joy for me to hear from any of you on the forum and to share what is going on in our lives and our minds and our hearts. I look forward to seeing many of you again on September 27th at Connie’s. Life is a journey and a gift from God, and it is all too short. And none of us are getting any younger. So, without getting too philosophical or emotional or sentimental, I just wanted to say THANKS!

Have a great weekend everyone!… whether you are going to the mountains, or golfing, or just spending quiet time with family and friends… may God bless you!

Amen Don!! It has been my extreme pleasure to maintain this site for the class and I'm so happy that you all seem to be enjoying it - even the really BAD jokes. Just read Diane's post on the User Forums under Music. Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end .... I remember seeing Dick at several of the concerts I attended and always thought - what a neat job. One of my favorite web sites is The Smoking Gun. They have some pretty bizzare stories. One of their categories is Backstage Requests in which they post some of the more unusual demands of some performers. Though you might enjoy. I guess I had better go find a good joke to brighten everyone's day - as if FRIDAY was enough!!! Later.

Dear Classmates,

After 3 months of recovery of the dislocation of my right elbow, I think I am going to live. I have enjoyed reading the message forum. Can't wait to see all of you at Connie's in September!

Hope your summer has been a good one.

Love, Linda

08/15/09 06:43 PM #768

Diane Harris (Moore)

Linda!! How great to hear from you! I kept reading my Echo and would see you were still in the news from Sandy Cross, so I knew you were alive, but there's nothing like hearing it from you, yourself! Poor thing, I know that elbow has not been a fun thing to deal with, and I'm glad it's on the mend.

Can't wait to see you and and the rest next month. So glad to hear you are coming! Now, keep on taking care of that elbow. I want to hear all the details of how it happened. I am beginning to have joint troubles (means a totally different thing than it did in the '60s), and we can compare our medications and treatments. Now, that is something to look forward to!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. We attended a surprise party/reception for an older friend this afternoon, and now I am cooking for a church dinner tomorrow. It's been a good day and a good week, except I dropped my cell phone in the toilet--AGAIN. No, I will not explain.

Love you all. Thanks for saying "hi", Linda! Think I'll go put on my 60s music and pretend I was at Woodstock, Don. Feel the love?

Forever and Always.

Right On, Diane! I'm Groovin'! Can you dig it?

All I gotta say, Don, is this...

When the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars, then peace will guide the planets, and love will steer the stars. This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius, you know...

Groovy....I'm off to bedlam. I mean bed.

Hi, Friends. I just thought I would ask you all to be especially prayerful for the young woman who is missing in Blairsville. She is the daughter of someone that Teresa and I know. Her mother was our suite mate when we were freshman at Young Harris. Jo Ann (the mom) was, and is, a great lady. Teresa and Jim have remained friends with the family all through these years, though I have not seen Jo Ann since Young Harris. Anyway, I know that Teresa, Jim, and I would sure appreciate your prayers on behalf of the family. It's impossible to imagine such anguish.

Anyway, here's wishing each of you a good week. May you be safe and well.

Diane, I read an article about this in Sunday's Atlanta paper. I will keep her in my prayers.

Diane and Teresa our prays go out to this family and also to you. Such events seem even more tragic when we have a personal connection. Here is a link (Missing Georgia Mother Snatched Off the Street) for any that may not have hear or read what happened.

Linda, so glad to see your post and to hear you are doing better. I wish everyone would check in periodically and at least leave a note on how things are going. I think about so many of you so very often and wonder how things are going - I am the world's worst at sending emails or picking up a phone. I guess I just never developed the habit of "keeping in touch". I wish you all well and pray you each have a blessed week. Later.

The patient didn't have any obvious symptoms, but the distrought patient insisted on an examination. He told the doctor to listen to his leg!

The doctor cautiously placed his ear to the man's thigh only to hear, "Gimme 20 bucks, I really need 20 bucks."

"I've never seen or heard anything like this before, how long has this been going on?" The doctor asked.

"That's nothing Doc. Put your ear to my knee."

The doctor put his ear to the man's knee and heard it say "Man, I really need 10 dollars, just lend me 10 bucks!!"

"Sir, I really don't know what to tell you. I've never seen anything like this." The doctor was dumbfounded.

"Wait Doc, that's not it. There's more, just put your ear up to my ankle," the man urged him.

The doctor did as the man said and was blown away to hear his ankle plead, "Please, I just need 5 dollars. Lend me 5 bucks, just 5 bucks. PLEASE, if you will."

"I have no idea what to tell you," the doctor said. "There's nothing about it in my books," he said as he frantically searched all his medical reference books. "I can make a well educated guess though. Based on life and all my previous experience I can tell you that your leg seems to be broke in three places."

So funny, Gary!! Now, will I be able to remember all of it when I am put to the test. I hate it when I tell a joke and it is met by the sound of crickets. I'll practice! I have had times when I have been alone in the house and heard strange noises, and then been relieved to realize they were just coming from my knee.

Waiting to see if all the thunder I hear outside is just bluster, or if rain will actually come. I need to mow the grass.

Later dudes and dudettes. Love to all.

Connie Morgan (White)

So good to hear from several of you. Gail, I laughed at your cow story! and Linda, great to hear from you. I do hope your arm is doing o.k. now.

Diane and Don, y'all made me wonder if any of our class of '68 actually went to Woodstock?

Gary, oh Gary - where do you find those jokes??? Thanks for the smiles, laughs (and some groans)..

Diane, I've been following the story of the woman missing in Blairsville. So scary. She and her family/friends are in prayers.
Also, we've had a tragedy of 2 people being "found dead" on an Oglethorpe county road over the w/e. Still waiting for details of the cause. Sad.

Early happy birthday Vicki.
I hope you all have a good week.

Connie... we were following that story of the Oglethorpe County couple on the news. Liz said that she heard a report that the elderly woman (65)went for a walk and was attacked and killed by a pack of wild dogs. Her elderly husband (77), a retired UGA professor, missed her, got in his car to go looking for her and when he found her body, he too was attacked and killed by the wild dogs. A strange and sad story if that is true. If anyone hears anything different, please let us know.

Have a good week everyone.

08/18/09 07:53 AM #778

Connie Morgan (White)

Don, that report was in the Athens paper this a.m. Just horrible!

Kathy, I sure hope y'all have had a good "get-away" in the mountains!

Well, I have to take my car in to the dealership today for "issues"... How about everyone crossing their fingers that it won't be tooooooo much.
As I've read on here about people's septic tank problems, plumbing leaking, home projects, my water heater, etc., etc., etc. - I am reminded of that old statement "there's always something"... Just part of life here on this earth.

Take care my friends.

08/18/09 08:30 AM #779

Diane Harris (Moore)

Happy Birthday, Vicki! I hope you have a really special day, because it sure was a special day back in August of 1950.

Yes, I too heard about the elderly couple in Oglethorpe County. It was out on Highway 77, the road I lived on and I know exactly where the place is. I know those wild dog packs run around, according to people I talk with who still live in the area. It's just the most horrible thing to think of. I have no doubt that it will eventually make the national news, because of the horrific nature of their deaths. It may take a few weeks, but I know I'll turn on the news one day and it will be a story. My heart just breaks at the thought of what they went through, and for their loved ones.

Connie, I do hope the diagnosis for your vehicle requires only mild treatment, and will not be costly. Yes, it's always something, and my experience has been that it usually comes in threes. For instance, the dishwasher will break down, then a week later, the clothes dryer, then a little while after that, the fridge. Just a sample scenario. But, most of the time, things don't break down, and the car starts fine. That's what I try to remember and be grateful for. My fridge is making gurgling sounds which I think is coming from the icemaker, but who knows. I'll keep you posted, because it has, after all, been almost two weeks since our septic tank issue.

Better go. Dick's leaving for Indy, and I need to hug his neck.

My best to all,
Diane

I'm enjoying reading all your comments, everyone. We are having such a wonderful, quiet and peaceful time way up here in the mountains. It's soooo coool up here, hate to go back to the 90 degree waether on Saturday when we have to return. We have to come down the mountain to get cell phone signals and are now at the public library w/ our laptop to check in. Don't know yet whether I can make it in Sept. love you all.

08/18/09 04:58 PM #781

I extend birthday wishes to Vicki as well. Enjoy your day! August babies have really dominated the birthday calendar, haven't we?! We Leos (or Catfish if you will) rule!... at least for a few more days.

Thanks for checking in, Kathy. Glad to hear you are enjoying your vacation!

Connie... I do hope your car service bill is considerably lower than the one I got a few months back. Part of life I guess.

Hey Jim... you out there? I saw part of the last round of the PGA Sunday. A little history... seeing Tiger lose one after a 54 hole lead (he just couldn't sink those putts)... and the first Asian to win a major too. It was fun! Some good Braves baseball too, especially Saturday!

Be safe out there everyone.

I guess I spoke too soon on the "good" Braves baseball. A nightmare 8-run 4th inning by the Mets tonight. I hate it when that happens. Oh well. Good night all.

Attention Children of the Sixties.. you of the Woodstock Generation... you know who you are:

I was doing one of my least favorite things a few days ago... shopping. I was comparing prices on GPS units at Target and happened upon an interesting product in the electronics department. A combination record turntable and CD player! Yes... you can now play those old vinyl records you still have if you are a packrat like me, and you can even convert them to CD's! What a deal! Maybe these have been around a while... I confess I don't go shopping much. But if you are like me, you have stacks of old vinyl records, 33's and 45's, that you wish you could hear again, but no longer have a working turntable. And the ones I saw were in a very nice wooden display box, with handsome antique styling. I think Liz and I might get one for our anniversary next month, or ask Santa for one for Christmas. They aren't real expensive. If any of you have one or have seen them around, let us know what you think.

Have a good one folks. Long live the sixties!
