G'Morning!

Kathy, I was so sorry to read about your fall! That was not a good way to end such a nice week in the mountains. I'll be praying for you to be all better in record time. Many years ago I got closelined by our garage door. (Didn't know it was descending), and I hit it midway of my face while running back into the house to retrieve a forgotten item. Wasn't looking up--naturally. Anyway, it hit me, I fell back full force onto the concrete floor, broke my nose, had to have four stitches in my lip, and had a giant ostrich egg on back of my noggin'. I had to call a friend to take me to the base hospital ER. Dick met me there, 'cause he was still active duty at the time. Well, talk about looking like he'd sucker punched me! He got more looks, and both he and I were carefully grilled about how it happened. The military doesn't look kindly on spousal abuse.

Don, have a great, great trip doing all those varied things. Sounds like you have lots to look forward to.

Gary, the nursing home thing? That was kind of you to say, and I do love old people and visiting them very much. But, it is also the only place I go where I am "the young gal" in the bunch. I had to miss a couple of weeks ago when my kids were visiting and I was told later than one of my sweet old gentleman friends asked, "Where's the blonde?" Now, if that won't keep me going back, what would? Blonde? Who calls me that anymore?

Y'all have a stellar Wednesday. I'm off to water aerobics where I also feel like "the young gal". I'm considering signing up for a shuffleboard league soon. :)

Hugs!

good to hear from several of y'all.

no news here... I am going camping @ Lake Oconee this w/e. One night by myself, then some children/grandchildren will come for some of the time. My first time to use this pop-up by myself, so wish me luck.

Jim, this a.m. when I heard about last night's extra innings, (then the Braves lost) I wondered if you made it to work today.

Safe and enjoyable travels Don and Liz.

Judy, good to hear from you again.

Kathy, I sure hope you quickly recover.

Diane, bless you for all the cheer you spread to so many!

Gary, thanks for keeping this site going! and I enjoy your jokes and "words of wisdom."

Have a good w/e all you special folks! --- and see you in September..

CONNIE IT WAS AS IF I LEFT THE GAME AND CAME STRAIGHT
TO THE OFFICE. I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN OVER IT. WE ARE NOT AS YOUNG AS WE ONCE WERE. THEY HAD A CHANCE TO WIN THAT GAME THREE TIMES BEFORE THEY LOST. ANYWAY, IT WAS FUN AND THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!

BESIDES I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU GUYS BUT SOMETHING IS
SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH ME. I'VE TRIED SETTING ON ICE BAGS.
SCRATCHING BEHIND MY EARS DID NOT HELP. I CAN'T
UNDERSTAND IT! MY TEMPERATUE IS BOUT OFF THE CHART!
I CHASE CARS WITH TECH,GATOR OR TIGER STICKERS ON
THEIR BUMPERS. I THINK I HAVE GOT "BULLDOG FEVER"! GO DAWGS!!! WOOF WOOF WOOF...

HAVE A GREAT REST OF WEEK!

Down boy, good doggie ..... Just don't pee on the drapes, okay?

When the gynecologist confirmed her suspicion that she was pregnant, Ann got a little scared.

“It will be my first baby,” she confessed with a blush, “and I do not actually know the first thing about how babies are delivered.”

“Do not worry about a thing,” reassured the doctor. “It is really not all that different from how the baby got started in the first place.”

Startled, Ann exclaimed, “You mean, five tequila shooters and then a ride in Charlie’s truck?”

Gary, I can't let that pass! That joke may just be the funniest one yet, but then maybe it's just 'cause I'm a girl and I relate. Hilarious! But will I remember it well enough to tell it? I shall practice!

Jim, calm down, the Dawg's will be playing soon enough. I called Athens yesterday trying to find a restaurant for the 26th where we might have a get-together with Dick's immediate family. His mom and our sister-in-law share the same birthday. Anyway, I called Harry Bissett's and the fella said, "If the Bulldog's game with AZ is at night, you can have the whole restaurant to yourselves." I had forgot about the football schedule. Still don't know what we'll do, but we'll do something.

Connie, hope you're having fun at the lake. We hope to be down there the weekend of the 19th, when my sister has her 50th anniversary reunion. You have my admiration for hooking up your camper and doing that yourself. I would, without a doubt, end up in the newspaper under the caption, "Woman Goes Berserk After Losing Battle With Pop-Up".

Gotta go. It's Friday, and that means it's payday! Oh, wait, I don't get paid for anything. Bummer!

Oh, I saw that the Class of '68 followed our lead and has created a website for their 40th. See what good things we encouraged?

Love you all, bunches. Hey, Judy!! Every time I go by a courthouse I think of you!

Leave it up to Diane to keep us up to date with what's going on around here. Here is a link to the Class of 1969 website. I know some of us were "close" to members of that class. (Some '68er's even got mentioned by name!) Unfortunately most of them have their profiles locked but its fun to see how THEY HAVE AGED!!! Thanks for keeping us updated Diane (again)!

Glad to get home safely and check-in to hear from several of you. It was a nice w/e @ the lake (but yes Diane, I did almost have some moments of 'going beserk with the pop-up!) It was my first attempt to set up and then unload the a pop-up all by myself...
Gary, I could have used those "stupid pop-up tricks" BEFORE I went!!!

Jim, I've caught that "dawg fever" too! Looking forward to those football Saturdays.

Thanks for the info on the '69 class website. Fun to catch-up on a few of them. I too wish more had their profiles "open" for viewing.

Take care dear friends, and have a good week.
(hope your birthday was good Junior!)

HAPPY MONDAY - albeit a bit dreary with the RAIN!! I really need it around my house. I trust everyone had a GREAT weekend. I did - just a little tooooo busy. Started Friday night with wonderful dinner with my baby - whose's expecting her second in November. Saturday AM got to take a nice motorcycle ride around the county (about 100 miles). Saturday evening had a covered dish dinner at the church with some great entertainment. Sunday AM after church back to my youngest's house where EVERYONE gathered for lunch and homemade peach ice cream. My older brother joined us too for sort of an early Thanksgiving. JJ smoked some chickens (WONDERFUL); Jennifer made her sweet potato souffle; Emily brought the rolls (cause Jason eats a dozen himself); and Sherron put together the peach ice cream. Five little ones running around a house sure can make a lot of noise! Then off to Pinera's for coffee with friends before heading home. I prefer a much slower life now. Maybe NEXT weekend ...... Well Don we anxiously await a trip report. Connie so glad you didn't let the pop-up get the better of you. Maybe you could put on a little demonstration at our get together!!! I guess I had better go find something to post to brighten everyone's day. Later.

SIMPLE cooking .....

It’s fun to cook for Tom. Today I made angel food cake. The recipe said beat 12 eggs separately. The neighbors were nice enough to loan me some extra bowls.

Tom wanted fruit salad for supper. The recipe said serve without dressing. So I didn’t dress. What a surprise when Tom brought a friend home for supper.

A good day for rice. The recipe said wash thoroughly before steaming the rice. It seemed kind of silly but I took a bath anyway. I can’t say it improved the rice any.

Today Tom asked for salad again I tried a new recipe. It said prepare ingredients; lay on a bed of lettuce one hour before serving. Tom asked me why I was rolling around in the garden..

I found an easy recipe for cookies. It said put the ingredients in a bowl and beat it. There must have been something wrong with this recipe. When I got back, everything was the same as when I left.

Tom did the shopping today and brought home a chicken. He asked me to dress it for Sunday. I don’t have any clothes that fit it, and for some reason Tom keeps counting to ten.

Tom’s folks came to dinner. I wanted to serve roast but all I had was hamburger. Suddenly I had a flash of genius.. I put the hamburger in the oven and set the controls for roast. It still came out hamburger, much to my disappointment.

GOOD NIGHT DEAR DIARY. This has been a very exciting week! I am eager for tomorrow to come so I can try out a new recipe on Tom. If I can talk Tom into buying a bigger oven, I would like to surprise him with a chocolate moose.

********

This should keep you laughing for a few days!!! Later.

Hello from Chicago... actually the suburb of Wheaton. We had a great church/family reunion in Louisville, and visited Liz's friend Pat again too. She's still fighting the good fight (thanks for your continued prayers). We arrived here yesterday... Chicago traffic is a real bear! We're having a great time visiting with one of Liz's nephews and his family of 5 children... two of which are twins. They are all great kids and lots of fun to be with! They have nicknamed Liz "Grandma"! :-) We will head to New York on Wednesday for the Art Exhibit.

I'm ready for football season too (Go Dawgs!), but I still have a lttle baseball left in me (Go Braves)!

It's cool here in Chicago. Beautiful weather, but really feels like fall!

Have a great week everybody! I'll check in again down the road.

Reporting live from the "Windy City", this is Don.

Susan Peterman (Harris)

Hi everyone,

Thanks a million for the sympathy about my sister. It was and is still very difficult. It was only two months since my brother passed and I was still grieving over him. Connie you can't know what it meant to me to see you standing there at the veiwing. I can not find the words to say how much that meant to me. I love you girl.

I wish I could have something crazy and witty to say, but I quess I just am not in that mood or mode yet. Maybe some day.

I am fighting trying to find something I can eat and not get sick. Since I had my surgery, I have not been able to eat much and I am starving for something solid. Hey the bright side of this is that I have lost 60 pounds in two months, and I have maintained my composure. I haven't grabbed candy from a child and ran, nor have I bitten anyone's head off. I really am doing good am I not!!!!

love you all,
Susan J. Peterman Harris

Diane Harris (Moore)

Susan, it really is good to read your message, though it tells of your sadness. We all understand. Grief is such a solitary experience. No matter how many loving thoughts and prayers that are sincerely sent, or how many shoulders we may have to lean on, it is still something that in the end, no one can completely take away. Hopefully though, knowing that others really do care helps in a small way. I know the absence of that knowledge would make grief even more intense for me. Knowing that God understands like no one else will ever be capable of, is the ultimate comfort. We all care, and by this time in our lives, none of us has escaped the loss of someone we dearly loved. Remember, we love you! Isn't Connie the best? The sight of a loving, familiar face when we are sad can best be compared to a rainbow that shows us beauty in a stormy sky.

I know you'll do great as you continue to adjust to your new eating habits. I hope you have a good support group composed of others who have had the surgery, because it always helps to have encouragement from people who are walking the same walk.

Everybody else---hope the week is being kind to you. Connie, I knew you'd master the pop-up camper! I just know I struggle with putting my vacuum cleaner attachments together, so it would be a lost battle for me from the get-go.

Love to all. Gotta go do my Tuesday "thangs".

Thank you Don and Diane for sending us some early fall weather. Its overcast and cool here in the Classic City - PERFECT Football weather!!! I took a walk downtown a moment ago and could almost smell pig skin in the air or maybe it was the vomit and pee residue from last night - anyway, a real lovely fall day. Watched an ambulance come and pick up a homeless guy on the corner of College and Clayton for a little R&R at one of our fine health facilities. Not many students out today - the most interesting one had a green mohawk - very dapper! Good to hear from you Susan - you will remain in our prayers. Don if you haven't been to the Navy Pier in Chicago, and are still in the area, I would recommend it. One of those "gotta see once" things. The day I went it was windy and cold so didn't get to enjoy the lake as much as I could have. We are expecting some great pics upon your return. I trust everyone is doing well and hope you continue to have a GREAT week as we look toward a long weekend!!!!! Later.

WHAT IS A "TUESDAY THANGS"?!!!@#%^&
SEE YA!

09/01/09 06:46 PM #830

Diane Harris (Moore)

Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy.....according to my southern dictionary, a "thang" is anything I want it to be. Today it included the nursing home, grocery shopping, prescription pickups, and a couple of other equally exciting "thangs". You are a rascal, that's all I have to say!

Gary, I was just feeling the "fall is in the air in Athens" that you were describing until I read the words "vomit" and "pee". My genteel eyes feel assaulted, not to mention how my lovely image of Athens was crushed. Hopefully Don will make an entry that will elevate the forum here. If not, I'm sure some of my female classmates will do so. Gee! But, about those cool temps--it was 46 degrees here this morning and I was actually chilly when I first woke up. It feels like football weather here too, and folks are as eager for it to start as you are there. Big difference though, it's mainly for Ohio State, understandably. We, however, are vocal Bulldog supporters and everyone knows it.

Don, hope you're having a fun last day in Chicago. You make me wish I was there with my "baby boy" Greg, and Christy. Have a safe drive to New York tomorrow, and continue to have a great time. Remember, I'm counting on you to write a dignified account of your travels.

Have a good evening, all. Dick says "hi" by the way. I was going to make him write, but he says I've already said everything. The nerve!

Hello mates. Liz and I have had a wonderful visit with her nephew Jeff and their kids (ages 5 to 16). Jeff and his wife Denice are both graduates of Wheaton College which is just down the street from their home in a beautiful suburban neighborhood. The most famous alumni of Wheaton College is the Reverend Billy Graham. Jeff's home is less than a block from the practice field for the Wheaton College football team, and I walked down this afternoon and watched them practice for a while. That'll get you in the mood for football for sure. Jeff works in downtown Chicago and we went down today to have lunch with him. His office tower is about a block from "Jim's building"... Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower. Nice place you have there Jim! We didn't get down to the pier Gary... or to Wrigley Field either, but this has been a wonderful family visit. It was 45 degrees here Monday morning, but the days have been perfect "fall" days! We will be on the road again early tomorrow morning and plan to stay overnight at a motel near Cleveland on the way to New York. I don't think I have elevated the discourse here Diane, and it may be more boring than anything. But I am enjoying it all and enjoy keeping up with all of your comments here too.

More later... enjoy your week everyone!

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone has a Great Day!

Don, I was just reading about your visit to downtown
Chicago. I could not imagine what it would be like
to have to go downtown Chicago or New York to get
to work. We truly are bless to live in "God's
Country". Places like all those big cities seem so
far away. If I go to Atlanta or even Macon it seems
to take me a week to get over it!

Anyway, thank the good "Lord" for Middle Georgia.
For giving us the peace and tranquility of country
life. And Georgia Football!!!

Have a great rest of the week!!
See Ya!

Diane, my MOST humble apologies for my vulgar description of the Classic City's street scene. I fear a profuse amount of sodium chloride still courses through the circulatory system of this former mariner. In an effort to elevate the status of this most august discussion group, I offer the following sagacious adages for your perusing. I bid you adieu. Aphorism: A short, pointed sentence expressing a wise or clever observation or a general truth. 1. The nicest thing about the future is that it always starts tomorrow. 2. Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail. 3. If you don’t have a sense of humor, you probably don’t have any sense at all. 4. Seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs. 5. A good time to keep your mouth shut is when you’re in deep water. 6. How come it takes so little time for a child who is afraid of the dark to become a teenager who wants to stay out all night? 7. Business conventions are important because they demonstrate how many people a company can operate without. 8. Why is it that at class reunions you feel younger than everyone else looks? 9. Scratch a cat and you will have a permanent job. 10. No one has more driving ambition than the boy who wants to buy a car. 11. There are no new sins; the old ones just get more publicity. 12. There are worse things than getting a call for a wrong number at 4 AM. It could be a right number. 13. No one ever says ‘It’s only a game.’ when their team is winning. 14. I’ve reached the age where the happy hour is a nap. 15. Be careful reading the fine print. There’s no way you’re going to like it. 16. The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody has the same size bucket. 17. Do you realize that in about 40 years, we’ll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos? (And rap music will be the Golden Oldies!) 18. Money can’t buy happiness — but somehow it’s more comfortable to cry in a Corvette than in a Yugo. 19. After 50, if you don’t wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead!! 20. Always be yourself because the people that matter don’t mind, and the ones who mind, don’t matter.
