Don, I told you so!!! Now you've got Diane all stirred up!!!
At least Liz (and Diane) carry a purse. Purses are not one of Sherron's favorite things so when we used to head out the door together - "Could you put my lipstick in your pocket?" ... brush, mirror, compact, .... Pretty soon I looked like Captain Kangaroo on steroids. You ladies do realize that most external suit and sports jacket pockets are sewn closed? Those flaps are just for looks. The pockets were not meant to be used - else they would have come not sewn closed. Needless to say, I became quite good at opening them pockets without destroying the coat. (Still looked like Captain Kangaroo). There were some things women carry in their purses that I just could not bring myself to pocket!! Yes, I mean ..... well you know what!
Well now I'm in the dog house with Diane too!!! Dick, are you out there? HELP!!!! Been a while since we heard from him. Poor guy - Diane may have done him in and buried him in a snow drift - not to be found until the spring thaw. All because he couldn't find the check book in Diane's purse. Maybe that's where she hid his remains!!! I can see the headlines now - "Human Remains in Woman's Purse". Poor guy. I'd better shut up before I join him.

I hope everyone has a very BLESSED weekend. Later.

Did someone say WET!!! I'm half passed waterlogged, but I'm not complaining. My memory hasn't gotten so bad that I have forgotten the last couple of dry years. I must admit that I have done a web search for plans for an Ark.
I trust that everyone had an otherwise GREAT weekend. I had fun watching my grandson play a little soccer and having him kick my a** at Wii Basketball. And then Sherron kicked it again playing Wii Ski Jump! So embarassing!!
Well I guess I should get busy and do something productive. It is Monday and I've got all week, so maybe tomorrow ......
Later.

Obviously ya'll need something to ponder, so here are: 13 things to ponder 13. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway… 12. Life is sexually transmitted. 11. Health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die…. 10. Men have two emotions: Hungry and Horny. If you see him without an e**** make him a sandwich… 9. Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the Internet and they won’t bother you for weeks. 8. Some people are like Slinkies . . . not really good for anything, but you still can’t help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs…. 7. Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday lying in hospitals dying of nothing. 6. Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. 5. All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism… 4. Why does a slight tax increase cost you two hundred dollars and a substantial tax cut saves you thirty cents? 3. In the 60’s people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal… 2. Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first… AND THE # 1 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: You read about all these Terrorists and most of them came here legally, but they hung around on these expired visas, some for as long as 10-15 years. Now, compare that to Blockbuster; you are two days late with a video and those people are all over you. I think we should put Blockbuster in charge of immigration & Homeland Security. Later.

Okay, so I'm hogging the board today, but couldn't pass this one up. Later. ****** Airport arrest report A public school teacher was arrested today at John F. Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a compass, a slide-rule and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General Eric Holder said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction. “Al-Gebra is a problem for us”, the Attorney General said. “They derive solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values. They use secret code names like ‘X’ and ‘Y’ and refer to themselves as ‘unknowns’, but we have determined that they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country.” As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, “There are 3 sides to every triangle.” When asked to comment on the arrest, President Obama said, ‘If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, he would have given us more fingers and toes.”

“TUESDAY AFTERNOON… I’M JUST BEGINNING TO SEE… NOW I’M ON MY WAY…”
(The Moody Blues)

Connie… I loved the Mamas and the Papas. And I loved the Moody Blues even more. “Monday, Monday" (1966) was a great song! “Tuesday Afternoon” came out in 1967. “Those were the days, my friend! We thought they’d never end." (Mary Hopkins, 1968). Every time I think of the Mamas and Papas, I think of Mama Cass Elliot and that RUMOR that she choked to death on a ham sandwich. NOT TRUE. I believed that myself for many, many years. Actually she died of a heart attack, and a sandwich was found next to her bed (untouched).

By the way… that idea of “donating” a million bucks to all of us over 50 to retire was not my idea, although I might claim it. But truthfully, what would 40 million people times $1 million each be?... 40 trillion dollars?... or 40 cagillion? I can’t count that many zeroes. A million here, a million there... before you know it, we're talking about real money! But that idea might work better for the economy than what Obama is doing now.

PS… Do any of you watch “24”?

I can hear the soft breathing
Of the girl that I love,
As she lies here beside me
Asleep with the night,
And her hair, in a fine mist
Floats on my pillow,
Reflecting the glow
Of the winter moonlight.

"Wednesday Morning, 3 A. M." - Simon and Garfunkel
I like this game. Anyone with a Thursday song?

Later.

01/26/10 07:40 PM #1195

Connie Morgan (White)

I love you guys!!!

I learn so much valuable info from this message forum---

and, you make me laugh!

Don, I had heard that about mama Cass and the ham sandwich. Didn't know if it was true or not.

Gary, I googled "Thursday songs", and there are actually several.

Kathy, how is your recovery going?

Any golf in this cold, windy weather Jim?

Diane, are you all frozen up there??

Everyone have a great Wednesday.

Happy Founder's Day to all the UGA Alumni!!!
Well tonight we get to hear The State of the Union. From where I sit, it don't look too good. But then what do I know. I'm just a poor ignorant citizen, not an enlightened legislator or actor. Funny how as soon as someone gets infront of a camera - regardless of background (or IQ) they suddenly become an authority. Why is that?
I digress. I was going to ask WHY we don't have "retired" participants here on the forum. I've heard that once you retire you are busier than when you had a job, but come on now. I know they could spare a few minutes and enlighten us slaves to the clock. I'm starting to "plan" for retirement but if you don't even have time to post a little "Howdy" to your friends, don't know if I want to go there.
Well got to go play like I'm doing something and then off to Gainesville after lunch for my infusion and I NEED it bad.
Hope everyone has a GREAT day. Later.

Gary… I will NOT be watching the State of the Union address tonight. And just to show you the kind of guy I am, I will save all of you the trouble too by giving you a special preview of tonight’s speech right here on the Forum. Now here we go… you’re going to have to use your imagination just a little. Picture Obama at the podium… with a TELEPROMPTER to the left and a TELEPROMPTER to the right. Obama looks to the left and begins “Ladies and gentlemen…” (Obama turns to the right) “the State of the Union…” (he turns back to the left) “is a big mess!...” (he turns right) “and it is all the fault…” (he turns left) “of George W. Bush.” (Democrats give Obama a five minute standing ovation). Well folks… that pretty much sums it up. By the way, I saw a video on Fox last night of Obama giving a speech in a SIXTH GRADE classroom… and believe it or not, he had teleprompters set up for it! Now this is my own personal opinion, but I believe that Barack Obama is “NOT Smarter Than a Sixth Grader.”

And by the way, Gary… you are not playing the “game” right. Connie posted “Monday, Monday” on Monday. I posted “Tuesday Afternoon” on Tuesday afternoon. You were supposed to post “Wednesday Morning, 3am” on Wednesday morning at 3 am. Not fair.

Reporting live from Marietta… this is Don… an equal opportunity offender.

Oops, sorry my bad! I just got so into the game, I got a little ahead. But who's awake at 3 AM? Now I've got to go find another song. Drats!
Thank you for the preview. In many ways I hope you are right and the people of this country will WAKE UP!!! But another side of me hopes he will say, "the people have spoken, and I heard them".
Later.

That's ok Gary. You can keep "Wednesday Morning 3am". Good choice. And besides... I was a big fan of Simon and Garfunkel. I think I was snoring this morning at 3 am. Now that Thursday song might be tough... slim pickins out there.

I will be shocked if Obama says the people have spoken and he has heard them. But anything is possible I guess. God bless America!

What State of the Union Speech? Was there a State of the Union Speech?
I guess its my "day song" entry. Why would anyone waste their time with a State of the Union Speech? Politics, politics, politics.... same tune, different singer.

Kathy - GREAT to have you back among the living!! Hope you will continue to heal quickly. I understood your tyouowkjlsing just fine.
Don and Jim - I think you are being too hard on our President. His popularity rating is hanging in there at 50% and I now realize that I am agreeing with him half of the time myself. For instance, I agree with him when he said lobbiests should not be appointed to positions in the government. I disagree with him when he appoints lobbiest to positions of authority in the government. I agree with him when he says we should have an open and transparent government. I disagree with him when he holds private meetings that impact my future. I agree when he said we should all work together. I disagree with him when he excludes ANYONE that disagrees with him. I agree with his State of the Union statement that "we should be rooting for each other". I disagree with him when he blames everyone else and rejects any notion that HE has any responsibility. I agree with him on freezing spending. I disagree on ONLY freezing a small portion of the budget at a future date when the FREEEZE levels have been grossly elevated. So by carefully evaluating what he says and what he does, I have to say I can agree with him 50% of the time.
I hope you each have a HAPPY DAY and a blessed weekend.
Later.

Grab a tissue and read on. Seldom have I read such a moving story and I just had to share it. Later.

****
As a bagpiper, I play many gigs.
Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man.
He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Kentucky back-country.
As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost; and being a typical man I didn't stop for directions.
I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight.
There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch.
I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late.
I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place.
I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play.
The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends.
I played like I've never played before for this homeless man. And as I played 'Amazing Grace,' the workers began to weep.
They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car.
Though my head hung low my heart was full.
As I was opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "Sweet Mother of Jesus, I never seen nothin' like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."
