Kathy Carter (Campbell)

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful day. We are having a very busy week. Went to hospital today for pre-op test. Leaving in the morning for Hilton Head Island for a conference and coming back Thursday. Hope we have good weather. Having "car pool tunnel" surgery on Friday. Hope this trip gets my mind off the anticipation of surgery, even though this is not my first surgery.

Hope all of you have a great week.

Kathy, have a great trip, and by all means know that I'll be thinking of you on Friday as you have your surgery. Please let us know how things go, sweetie.

Don, I did NOT find your stories boring at all. I found them fascinating. Wow! And, as a side note, what brought about the change in your political views over the years? Don't mean to get a heated debate started. I'm just curious.

Humming "California dreamin' upon a winter's day"....

Greetings and Good Morning one and all! I trust you all had a great weekend. Don, what stories! I have had a few encounters with people of note but never ended up in a head lock!! Kathy, hope you will be able to relax and enjoy the next few days before your surgery. Sherron planned a surprise getaway prior to my cancer surgery. She wanted to make it romantic and take my mind off the pending surgery and possible life style changes. Have you ever tried to have a romantic moment on a blanket by a beautiful babbling stream - while being watched by a copperhead snake? Yeah, needless to say there were some funny and blessed moments - but my mind was never far from what was ahead. I'll have to share that story someday. Diane, sorry to hear about your meteorological melancholy. We are basking in 65 degree weather down here!! Spring can't be far away. I figure another 8 - 10 cold snaps: 2 - 3 snow/ice events and it will be time to crank up the old lawnmower!
Well, here is your chuckle for the day. Later.

A girl was visiting her blonde friend, who had acquired two new dogs, and asked her what their names were.

The blonde responded by saying that one was named Rolex and one was named Timex.

Her friend said, “Whoever heard of someone naming dogs like that?”

“HELLLOOOOOOO……,” answered the blond. “They’re watch dogs!”

Diane… the change in my political views coincided with two events in my life in the late 1970’s. First came my spiritual conversion… a personal relationship with God. It opened my eyes to a lot of things… one of them being that much of government was the problem and not the solution. And I saw much of the liberal/democrat agenda as being anti-family, anti-individual, anti-Christian and anti-business. I became more of a SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE. The second event that affected my change was when I went into business for myself in 1979 and started making quarterly estimated tax payments. Since I didn’t have a regular paycheck with the taxes being withheld before I received a check, I realized just how much I was actually paying in taxes. And I saw much of my tax money being wasted. Thus, I became more of a FISCAL CONSERVATIVE. I grew up in a conservative household, but back then, most Democrats were actually conservative. I voted for Sam Nunn every time he ran for office. But today, most Democrats are Socialists.

I will be one of those praying that Scott Brown wins that Senate race in Massachusetts tonight. That would really be amazing! We really need to stop that Socialist Obama Health Care Plan. Obama, Pelosi and Reid are trying to ram this thing down the throats of the American people even though most people don’t want it. I hope I haven’t offended any of you liberal democrats out there but sometimes I just have to vent. That’s my opinion… I welcome yours.

GOOD MORNING FOLKS! AND IT IS A VERY GOOD MORNING.
BROWN PULLED OFF A GREAT VICTORY YESTERDAY. AND I
NOW HAVE MY FAITH RESTORED IN THE AMERICAN ELECTORATE.
ITS GREAT TO SEE OUR GREAT COUNTRY STOP, SHAKE ITS SELF
AND CORRECT ITS PATH. I REALLY DON'T BELEIVE THIS
COUNTRY COULD STAND IF IT HAD TURN TO FOLLOW THE
SOCIALIST PATH OBAMA WAS LEADING US. THANK GOD FOR
ANSWERED PRAYERS!
HAVE A GREAT DAY FOLKS!

Now this is “Change I Can Believe In”! A Conservative Republican wins the U. S. Senate race in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts!... the most liberal state in the Union! It is not the change that Obama was hoping for, and I think that Ted Kennedy is probably rolling over in his grave. It was another “earthquake” of sorts… turning the political world upside down, and upsetting the ObamaCare applecart. My faith is renewed too, Jim. Scott Brown got Republican votes, Independent votes and even some Democrat votes. When is the Obama Administration going to realize that America does NOT want government run healthcare?

I mentioned that I was very liberal in my days working for the City of Atlanta in the Maynard Jackson Administration. And I am ashamed to say that I voted for Jimmy Carter… twice. But in 1984, I went to a Ronald Reagan campaign rally here in Atlanta… to see and hear (and photograph) the “Great Communicator. “ I loved the man… and still do! God bless his memory. I voted for Reagan then and have voted for Conservatives ever since. I think Ronald Reagan is smiling today. :-)

This is a great day indeed! A great day for Freedom! God Bless America!

I think the more we know - the more we appreciate! Hope this adds to your knowing. Later. Things you might not know about the dollar bill On the rear of the One Dollar bill, you will see two circles. Together, they comprise the Great Seal of the United States. The First Continental Congress requested that Benjamin Franklin and a group of men come up with a Seal. It took them four years to accomplish this task and another two years to get it approved. If you look at the left-hand circle, you will see a Pyramid. Notice the face is lighted, and the western side is dark. This country was just beginning. We had not begun to explore the west or decided what we could do for Western Civilization. The Pyramid is uncapped, again signifying that we were not even close to being finished. Inside the capstone you have the all-seeing eye, an ancient symbol for divinity. It was Franklin’s belief that one man couldn’t do it alone, but a group of men, with the help of God, could do anything. The Latin above the pyramid, ANNUIT COEPTIS, means, ‘God has favored our undertaking.’ The Latin below the pyramid, NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM, means, ‘a new order has begun.’ At the base of the pyramid is the Roman Numeral for 1776. (MDCCLXXVI) If you look at the right-hand circle, and check it carefully, you will learn that it is on every National Cemetery in the United States It is also on the Parade of Flags Walkway at the Bushnell, Florida National Cemetery, and is the centerpiece of most hero’s monuments. Slightly modified, it is the seal of the President of the United States , and it is always visible whenever he speaks, yet very few people know what the symbols mean. The Bald Eagle was selected as a symbol for victory for two reasons: First, he is not afraid of a storm; he is strong, and he is smart enough to soar above it. Secondly, he wears no material crown. We had just broken from the King of England Also, notice the shield is unsupported. This country can now stand on its own. At the top of that shield you have a white bar signifying congress, a unifying factor. We were coming together as one nation. In the Eagle’s beak you will read, ‘ E PLURIBUS UNUM’ meaning, ‘one from many.’ Above the Eagle, you have the thirteen stars, representing the thirteen original colonies, and any clouds of misunderstanding rolling away. Again, we were coming together as one. Notice what the Eagle holds in his talons. He holds an olive branch and arrows. This country wants peace, but we will never be afraid to fight to preserve peace. The Eagle always wants to face the olive branch, but in time of war, his gaze turns toward the arrows. They say that the number 13 is an unlucky number. This is almost a worldwide belief. You will usually never see a room numbered 13, or any hotels or motels with a 13th floor. But think about this: 13 original colonies, 13 signers of the Declaration of Independence, 13 stripes on our flag, 13 steps on the Pyramid, 13 letters in, ‘Annuit Coeptis,’ 13 letters in ‘E Pluribus Unum,’ 13 stars above the Eagle, 13 bars on that shield, 13 leaves on the olive branch, 13 fruits, and if you look closely, 13 arrows. And finally, if you notice the arrangement of the 13 stars in the right-hand circle you will see that they are arranged as a Star of David. This was ordered by George Washington who, when he asked Hayim Solomon, a wealthy Philadelphia Jew, what he would like as a personal reward for his services to the Continental Army, Solomon said he wanted nothing for himself but that he would like something for his people. The Star of David was the result. Few people know that it was Solomon who saved the Army through his financial contributions but died a pauper.

Don, thanks for so eloquently answering my question. So often our outlooks on things evolve as our circumstances change. I find politics both frustrating and fascinating, but our right to vote has got to be one of the most precious ones that we Americans have.

Gary, I'll go back now and read your entry. I'm sure I'll be more knowledgeable when I finish.

Hugs to everyone, and especially to those who probably visit this site, but don't post. I love y'all too, and hope you are well.

By the way... there were 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence. I guess I am a HISTORY junkie too.

Hi everyone,

Gary, thank you for that lesson about the dollar bill. I truly enjoyed reading all that info about it.

Don, you know, when we were growing up the democratic party was conservative and most people in the south were democrats, but time has changed that.

We are having a great time at this beautiful resort and wish we didn't have to leave tomorrow. It has been so nice having somone else doing the cooking of all the great food we have been having(too much),and having someone clean up after us.

Please pray for Rabun as he nurses me after surgery. I am having my right hand done this time and,of course, I am right handed and will be much hampered for a while. I I have begun to think about all the things I can't do without my right hand, and I am dreading the recovery time more that the surgery. Poor Rabun. I really will try to be a good and patient patient.

Probably be a while before you hear from me again.

Later.

I have sure enjoyed all the messages the past few days! I join those of you celebrating Scott Brown's victory!!

Good luck with your surgery and recovery Kathy. Will be praying for y'all.

I was reading the Echo tonight, and a Mr. Curley Nation of Winterville died January 13. Under the survivors, It lists "a stepson, David Landers and his wife, Linda of Denton, Texas". --- that would be our David. Sorry I didn't know it in time to go to the visitation or funeral.

I understand rain is coming back in tonight. Y'all be safe!

I had to share this. Don't know if it is true but would not be surprised. Later.

QUALIFICATIONS

In a Purdue University classroom, they were discussing the qualifications to be President of the United States . It was pretty simple, the candidate must be a natural born citizen of at least 35 years of age.
However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how unfair was the requirement to be a natural born citizen. In short, her opinion was that this requirement prevented many capable individuals from becoming president.
The class was taking it in and letting her rant, but everyone's jaw hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument by stating, "What makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country than one born by C-section?"
Yep, these are the same 18-year-olds that just elected the new President of the United States . Now we know why.

And don't forget,  "They walk among us & Voted !"

And Gary... President Obama is still counting on voters like that. Last night, I watched the Nightline interview with him following that amazing Senate race in Massachusetts. The man still DOES NOT GET IT!!! He is still determined to force a government run healthcare bill on the American people. He just can't seem to read the writing on the wall. I say go for it, Mr. Obama... you and your Democrat/Socialist comrades will pay for it at the ballot box in the November Election!

Calm down, Don. Think good thoughts. Ok... if I could figure out a way to get a photo of Tiger Woods right now, I could retire and be set for life! I could go on a World Cruise and take all of you with me!

Oh well... back to reality.

If you haven't guessed, I enjoy reading "advice" and take much of it to heart in an effort to be a better human being. I found the following quite enlightening and amusing. I trust it will bring a smile to your face and lighten the burdens of the day. Later. Old Farmer’s Advice Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong. Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.. Life is simpler when you plow around the stump. A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor. Words that soak into your ears are whispered…not yelled. Meanness don’t jes’ happen overnight. Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads. Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you. It don’t take a very big person to carry a grudge. You cannot unsay a cruel word. Every path has a few puddles. When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty. The best sermons are lived, not preached. Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway. Don’t judge folks by their relatives. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer. Live a good, honorable life.. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll enjoy it a second time. Don’t interfere with somethin’ that ain’t bothering you none. Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a Rain dance. If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’. Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got. The biggest troublemaker you’ll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin’. Always drink upstream from the herd. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment. Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back in.. If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around.. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you. And finally….

OK, ladies... I have a question. Does your purse ever get so full of "stuff" that you just have to go in there and clean it out and start all over? Well, Liz was doing that very thing last night and discovered, of all things... a Christmas tree ornament! One of those bright green glass ball ornaments!!! Now, how does that happen? We took down the tree December 30th, and I'm used to finding a few decorations left around the house for months after Christmas... and I guess I can understand how it got there. Her favorite chair was right next to the tree, and I can see how it might have been knocked off the tree into her purse... But how do you get to January 21st and not discover it in your purse? And how did the ornament survive three weeks being tossed and turned and not get broken? Just askin'.

Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend everyone!

01/22/10 09:42 AM #1179

Gary Grice

Be careful Don. You are treading where wise men fear to go!
Happy Friday! So, how do we (a country) create jobs? If I recall correctly, and history will bear it out, when TAXES were cut, jobs increased. Businesses are started and continued to make a profit - and not just a profit but as much profit as possible (capitalism). Now what is done with that profit is another issue. Lower TAXES means more money to spend and invest. More spending means more demand for goods. More demand for goods means more production. More production means more jobs. More jobs means more TAXES are paid. More TAXES paid means less debt. Less debt means fewer TAXES. Fewer TAXES means more business and people will invest and spend. Sounds like a simple, proven system to me. So why don't we (a country) lower TAXES and restore prosperity? What am I missing? The government distributing dollars with one hand just to take those dollars back with the other hand just doesn't make sense to me. Any brilliant economists out there that can asssist this simpleton understand WHY this is what PBO and Congress is doing? Just wondering.
I'll try to find a cheerier note to post - Later.

01/22/10 10:29 AM #1180

Donald Chandler

Gary, Gary, Gary… you make too much sense. When are you ever going to learn? More government spending is the solution to everything! By the way… someone sent me an e-mail with the following solution to the nation’s economy, published in a Florida newspaper. Instead of huge government stimulus packages of BILLIONS of dollars going to corporations, financial institutions and pork barrel projects, do this…

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force (Class of ’68 included). Pay them $1 MILLION each severance for early retirement with the following stipulations: 1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings (Unemployment fixed). 2) They MUST buy a new American car. Forty million cars ordered (Auto Industry fixed). 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage (Housing Crisis fixed). It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes... And while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. Both programs would be fixed immediately!

My name is Don Chandler… and I approve this message.

I'm back from water aerobics and checked in here to see discussions on taxes and pocketbooks. Somehow the two go together. Now, I agree with you Don and Gary on your essays about taxes, and goodness knows Dick will. Don't get him started. However, I choose to address the topic I know more about, which is, TA DA....pocketbooks!

Don, what's the big deal about finding a Christmas ornament in Liz's purse a month after Christmas? This tells me that you two lead a calm, respectable life. I have found things in mine that I still can't explain. I've said "What's that doing in there?" more times than you can shake a stick at. Dick has been notorious over the years for plundering through my purse in search of the checkbook, only to look down his freckled nose at me and say with disgust, "Why don't you clean this thing out?" Next thing you know we're out and about and I hear, "Can you put this (pick any of the following) camera lens, flashlight, toe nail clippers, etc. etc.---in your purse?" So lots of my junk is really his junk. I think a Christmas ornament is sweet. Between two little boys and Dick, my purse has been the holding pen to many odd things.

Now, y'all go back to talking about what you know so well. I just wanted to put my two cents in about purses. Taxes will cost much more.

Have a good weekend all. It looks like a soggy one up here.
