Oaxaca? Posted Thursday, September 12, 2013 09:47 PM Let's post opinions about venue for 50th Reunion. Bob Ogden makes a compelling argument for Oaxaca, but before he embarks on a ton of work, let's try to get a consensus of opinons in this forum. Just hit "Reply" below and chime in. RE: Oaxaca? Posted Friday, September 13, 2013 09:17 AM A wonderful idea; yes I'm very interested! We've traveled a good bit in Mexico over the years, but reecently only to the coasts to dive. I'm embarrassed to admit I've never been to Oaxaca! And I echo Bob's comments about safety in Mexico; we've always felt comfortable. Saludos, Adair |

Oaxaca? México City? Posted Friday, September 13, 2013 12:11 PM What a lovely letter written by Bob Ogden! Thank you Bob! I think Oaxaca is a very good option but perhaps it would be better to have our Reunion in México City, where we al met and our adventure began. I´ll try to contact as many classmates as I can here in the City to find out what the mayority would like. It is important to start voting since time travels FAST! Les mando a todos un cariñoso ABRAZO!

RE: Oaxaca? Posted Friday, September 13, 2013 01:18 PM Oaxaca sounds like a more intimate setting than the international hustle, bustle and traaafic of the DF, and the throw back to Mexico of the 60's is inviting. It would also be nice to see the campus and maybe give a presentation or two to the upper classmen of 2015. Maybe there it's possible to do both. Bottom line ... I'd like how ever we celebrate to take place in Mexico. |

RE: 50th Class Reunion Posted Friday, September 13, 2013 11:30 PM
My dear classmates from the class of 1965,
Over the years I have had the priviledge to attend several of our reunions some of which were held in Austin, Charlotte, Mazatlan and most recently in Phoenix AZ. The truth be known each one of these locations were great but the BEST part of the reunion was being together and re-establishing old friendships, sharing our special past and discovering new common ground within each of our lives which we never imagined existed. Returning to our roots in Mexico City has special personal meaning to me. I know the years spent at the American High School were the most precious & formative years of my life, and as Billy Richardson said in Phoenix last year "we're all in one form or another ambassadors of Mexico". To my dear friend Oggie whom I care for immensely Oaxaca would be awesome, to my wonderful friend Tommy Siefert Cuernavaca would be equally special, but at the end of the day I vote with my very special friend and classmate Alma Juarez to have the reunion at the American High School and encourage Victor Hattem to create a magical 50th High School Reunion for all of us in Mexico City. Sending each one of you "un abrazo muy fuerte".
Tu compañero y amigo, Grant

RE: Oaxaca? Posted Saturday, September 14, 2013 11:23 AM I think it's a wonderful idea. My husband and I have beento Oaxaca several times and it's a glorious place. I arranged a ten-day yoga vacation there for a gorpp of about 18 people about six years ago at a very reasonable hotel. I am blanking on the name, but I could do some research.

RE: Oaxaca? Posted Monday, September 16, 2013 12:09 AM Hello, I would be happy at either place. The important part of the reunion is being with everybody so if there is a hotel in Mexico City where we do not have to travel much, that would be great. It would also be good to have an excursion to the school and meet students, staff, and give them something from our class. Also, maybe plan some other excursions--even optional one before or after the reunion. I have not travelled in Oaxaca, but feel that I know Oaxaca as I am involved with the Latino community in Eugene,Oregon and there are many people from Oaxaca working in the fields, nurseries, timber, wineries. I can even tell from the people's accent what little town they come from in Oaxaca--Putla de Guerrero, Santiago Apostol,etc.. I will help with wherever we plan a reunion, and, si Dios quiere. I will be there. Saludos,

RE: Oaxaca? Posted Tuesday, September 17, 2013 08:39 PM I'm torn! I love Oaxaca and agree it would be an intimate setting, but also would love to see the changes at AHS. I think a resort on the beach would be fun since there's a little more to do. My husband, Garth, would love to have an opportunity to play golf wherever the venue. Anyway, it was fun getting together in Arizona, so I know we'll have a great time no matter where we end up! Saludos a todos, Penny |

RE: Oaxaca? Posted Monday, January 20, 2014 07:33 PM I LOVE Oaxaca! The food The mariachis (Bob you and I would have a great time singing with them and closing the night down to dawn!) If it's not in Oaxaca...Bob, Peter and I will certainly come and visit at some time por supuesto. But of course, as everyone re-iterates, the most impiortant part of the reunion is all of us being together! I just had the opportunitu to be in Austin where my husband was working on a MOW for Lifetime, which should come out in the fall called "Deliverance Creek. (Hope you all watch it....I think it is fabulous).....Best part for me is that I got to see a lot of AHS'ers living in the Texas area.....Rico Ainslie, Clive Dawson, Shelley & David Silvan. Will post the pictures soon. Abrazos to all Gina Ehrlich Burrell |

RE: Oaxaca? Posted Sunday, January 26, 2014 08:31 AM It appears that there's more interest in having a reunion in the D.F., which is understandable for many reasons. I have heard that there's a classmate who is willing to organize it. Will he please come forward and identify himself? Bob "Ogdezuma" Ogden, '65 |
