How about getting gassed at Dr. Glickman's during your spare.

Peter that is a good question. It took alot of work to get it. I think I know. But these lips are sealed, and it was not me.

Congratulations to you Barb we all owe this wonderful site and this truly amazing get together to you and your crew. You have my personal invite to any of the secret apres parties that I know about. I'll give you the secret handshake when we meet. You have earned your PhD in "Making It Happen"
It will be a pleasure meeting you soon. Thanks again soooo very much.

Tom: I believe it was actually Karen Matthews who designed and drew the original Gryphon.

I totally agree with Peter's statement Barb. Props to you. I will personally find the invitations where the party is the next day. That way he can give it to you with his handshake.

Deb Geisel (O'Blenis) (1973)

Okay. So I found the four yearbooks for 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973. I was in grades 10, 11, 12 and 13. There are also various programs - official opening and commencements for 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974, GAA banquet 1973, Li'il Abner 1973. Some athletic bars and athletic letters, GAA pin and Glenforest pin. Diplomas, report cards, letters from MP and MPP, congratulatory letter from Mr. Forde re prinicpal's award. A coaster from Diamond Lil's at the Skyline Hotel where we went for grad or something. A few newspaper articles regarding sports. All very old and musty but still legible. Will try to get them smelling nicer by Saturday.
P.S. I know I'm a hoarder, it has been a lifelong concern.

My old friends are coming from all over North America in some cases to get together for what may be for some of us the last time. Do you really think we give a F*** about the cost. You may not have any friends, but the original core of what GFSS is what it's all about, and it sure ain't about the money. And we will be happy to pay what ever it COSTS just to be together again. No secret handshake for you. Don't get me going on this one folks.

The cost of this reunion is almost the same as one day parking downtown (and I am from Ottawa). Maybe the cost is "weird" but I find it equally so to make an issue of it here - on a message board where we should be encouraging each other and promoting something that really should happen more often. Say, if everyone else charged a fee, perhaps we would see more reunions! I don't see the profit in bringing the cost of 50 small loonies as an issue - really it is not so much for a great day.

Gee Peter such passion but I hope it's not the last time some of us get together, my hope and it has already happened, is that some old friends I've lost contact with have been reunited.

Wish this e-mail thingy and the internet was around years ago and I may not have lost the connection.

So the fee for the cause is money well spent!

Here is another idea - for anyone who wants to further the fund raising and also offer a great reminder. HOw about producing a DVD of the reunion - partial photos and partial video - and offer it at a nominal price.

I would personally pay up to 25 for such a memory and - if titles were used to identify those of us attending (those of us who allow the titles to be produced) it would be great to offer those who already expressed regret for not attenting.

Raising funds for a great cause is fun; raising funds for our memories - priceless!

Barbara Troup (1983)

Good wishes to everyone who is able to attend the reunion. Hope you all have a GREAT time. Please spare a thought for those of us who are unable to attend and wish they could be there to enjoy the experience with you.

I like the idea of the DVD especially with sub-titles.

Bruce Rutter (1974)

I'm not going to end up being able to get there tomorrow, sadly. I have classes to teach I just can't get covered and my Lorraine has to work as well. If there is any possibility of a DVD (or photos) count me in. I'll be there in my thoughts, believe me. I guess my students will just have to understand if I get a bit distracted now and again.....

Sorry I didn't read all these comments before the reunion. Too busy adding people. :)

As for the yearbook pictures, anyone who wants to post one can scan it and email it to me. You can't post those yourself... just the site admin. With exams coming it might be my early July project to post them all but I'd be happy to do it.

As for the photo gallery, I can add lost of photo pages. Make sure they're jpgs and not pdf files. I think the plan is to try and post some of the stuff that was used in the slide show.

Don't know if there was anyone videoing the day. If there was, I'll email everyone if a video gets made.

Glad you're all enjoying the site. Hopefully lots of the people who came through the door today gave me permission to add them. I'll wade through the pile of paper over the next few weeks.

Hope you all had a blast tonight! It was nice meeting many of you.

Barbara Manchur thanks for all the hard work you and your team put into the event!
My wife and I had a great time. Seeing some old friends that I have not seen since high school was a hoot. Seeing what the school has been up to for the past forty years made me proud to be a very small part of it.
I can't wait to see what you have planed for 2019!
I also hope that this site stays active and there is more posting and picture adding, it's a fun place to pop in and see whats been going on.

Till 2019 or sooner maybe ciao!

ps sorry I missed you Ian.
you too Bev.

I too, had a great time catching up with staff and student friends from way back in the beginning. For awhile there it looked like a DiAngelis family reunion too ;-) My tenure there was not so long but I have many wonderful memories. Mrs. Horvath, Mrs. Meikles, and other organizers did a great job and I was honoured to have been a part of it. I wish you all the best and hope we can keep in touch. Life is too short.

I went to this reunion with perhaps too many expectations. I had been to other reunions as a guest and thought that this would be similar. Sadly it was not.
Read my messages that I posted before the attending the reunion and it should be obvious that I was not negative. I left the reunion a little upset.

Barb knows why I was upset at the Barbeque. I made no secret that, with the cost of the whole day ticket, one ticket for the barbeque should not equal one burger or one dog? Yes, I was offered another ticket – but why would I need the offer? Did anyone in the organizing committee think that it might be nice to offer a drink (not even water) or some salad; there was no lettuce, tomato, onion or pickle for the burgers or dogs. Was it just me? Did I pay the fee and expect too much at a Barbeque. What if I could not eat meat or was on a special diet? Surely it occurred to someone that guests might have needs when their ages exceed fifty. And why didn’t we have some large umbrellas or similar issue for shade? Do I protest too much?

Why not tell us that the hors d'oeuvres that would follow at 7 were, in fact, a banquet of plates, including free drinks? Would I have filled up on the costly barbeque if I had known that the hors d'oeuvres were not little snacks (as is normal fair for such things)?

We had 2 rooms, each quite removed from the other, with a large layout of all sorts of foods. It was very nice, I thought, but I was already full from the barbeque. Why not tell the guests that the hors d’oeuvres are not being presented as would be the normal case: an appetizer served before the main dish, and not an extravaganza of foods!

I won’t mention the dance – well, a comment: why didn’t we have a time to stop all other activities and take advantage of the opportunity to meet and mingle on the dance floor? The 2 rooms with food and liquor remained the focal point for most. I checked the dance floor regularly and don’t recall seeing more than 20 people at any time.

I had a lot of comments to make - and am not sure this is the proper forum. I spent my day with friends from years gone by and that was priceless. We were from the first group in the school, those who arrived in 1969 and, sadly, there was not a mention of how many of the standards enjoyed today at the school got started! There was nothing about how we had to manoeuvre through corridors still under construction; what were the other names submitted for our mascot before Gryphon was chosen? The newspaper or community clean up that made history! Did anyone comment as to why Mr. Forde (rightfully) got a standing ovation? There were none of the original stories and no speakers from those first years. On a very positive note, the speakers chosen were all extremely good – I must mention that.

As a graduate of Glenforest in 1971, the first grade 13 graduating year, and as a student who had an extraordinary experience with this school, I felt that those of us who opened the doors to those who followed might have been recognized a little more. Perhaps I ask too much. I did, however, learn early in life, and largely at Glenforest, to stand and be counted when things don’t seem right; speak out when we are witnessing something that needs to be recognized and, most of all, never fear those who would scoff because we wanted to be heard.

These things, and more, were reinforced by people like Mr. Forde so – if you don’t like me pointing out what I feel – blame it on what I learned while walking the halls of Glenforest.

A large thank you to Barb Manchur who, with all her volunteers, did a great job of making us feel at home. Thank you.

Larry! I trust you will be on the planning committee for the 50th so that things can get done properly. Sorry there were so many disappointments for you. Glad your connections were priceless because clearly that's what people came for... the connections.
