Bruce, are you sporting a mustache these days?

Great picture Larry.  I hope I am not the girl chewing that bubblegum.  I only recognize Connie Johnson in that picture.  I know we are in there somewhere.

Does anybody remember the names of the Drum Majorettes?  The one living in Indiana arrives in Napa today.    Who else arrives today?

Margo,

I know that one was Glenda Chase.  I believe the other one was Janet (something).  I don't have my yearbook handy to check on her last name.  It's one of my babysitting days, today, so not at home.

Hi Kenny Owen,  the school was Napa Junctin School (4 rooms) and I remember those walks to school with the gang, there were a lot of us down there!   I also remember there was a truck that cruised through the subdivision with treats .. ice cream, pastries, comic books etc., always watched for him!

What grade were in during the soap sculpting class?  Mr. Schiller taught 5th grade and Mrs. Whitney had 6th graders, I don't remember the 4th grade teacher.

Federal Terrace School was in Vallejo near the exit to Mare Island and was government housing at the time I lived there; must have been 2nd and 3rd grades.

Stay in touch.

Diane - I think that was Janet Holmes.  Patsy Carson used to live across the street from me on Baldwin Street.  I used to walk to school with her.  I also remember roller skating (when skates still had "keys") on the rough sidewalk and got many a skinned knee.

I have found Maie Visnapuu Ugalde. Hopefully she'll be updating her profile soon. She will miss coming to reunion.

I have a question for you Am Can kids. When I went to Ridgeview I met a girl whose name has long been forgotten. She invited me to a Halloween party and then to spend the night. I was the only person attending that wore a costume. I felt terrible and haven't worn a costume since. Who was that girl? Does anyone remember such a party in 7th grade? There were alot of kids there.

I'm so glad to hear from Napa Juntion School people!!!  I went there for 3rd grade, Mrs. Whitney, 4th grade, Mrs. Lusk but I had to go to the annex that year which was somewhere in the sub-division, 5th grade Mr. Pinter, he was the best, then again Mrs. Whitney for 6th grade.  I also remember when the school was only 4 classrooms.  Jan, I loved hanging from the bars too, what wonderful memories.  Does anyone know what happened to Diane White?  Last I heard she had moved to Las Vegas.  What about Barbara Ryan, Ricky White, John Chapdelain, Art Elite, maybe they will show up, Hope so.  We are driving down from Reno tomorrow, so see you all soon.

Hi All,

I, too, went to federal terrace and am an alum of silverado junior high.

Hey Janet, I remember those skinned knees from roller skating on the sidewalks in vallejo.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

I lived in Federal Terrace for about three years, then my parents moved to Napa, so I bypassed living in Rancho del Mar until much later.

Federal Terrace was built during WWII to house Mare Island workers and their families.  The buildings were built fast and cheap, but more than fifty years later they're still around.  After WWII, the Navy turned the property over to the City of Vallejo, which continued to operate the housing until the late 1950's or early 1960's, when Vallejo sold the property off and got out of the housing business.  The company that bought it refurbished most of the buildings, and demolished the single story buildings on Parrott Street next to Sunrise Cemetery.  Most of the apartments were in two story buildings with eight units, four downstairs and four upstairs, commonly called railroad apartments.  The area is now called Hillcrest Park (officially) and Garbage Gardens (by some former residents).

Patricia Craker Wood  -  The "overflow" classes were taught in unsold houses on Cassayre Drive.  That situation lasted until new classrooms were built at NapaJunction, and Donaldson Way School was built.  I got this from Mickey Mikolajcik when I was talking to him years ago.  That situation was part of the reason Miickey ended up on the school board, because certain members of the board insisted that new classrooms were not needed and the overcrowding was just temporary...

When my family moved to Rancho del Mar in 1954 (or so) they bought a house on Amarillo Drive. For a few months I attended classes in some unsold homes that were right next door to me (in a culdesac). So I literally walked next door to school before finally going to Napa Junction. Wow, what memories.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of my good friend from Risgeview and Napa High - Ron Younger? After retiring, he bought a home in Prescott, AZ and then I lost all contact a few years ago.

Charmy Ann Evans (Sorem)

Age-Activated Attention Deficit Disorder

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table,
Put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
And notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back
On the table and take out the garbage first...

But then I think,
Since I'm going to be near the mailbox
When I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table,
And see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
So I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks,
But first I need to push the Pepsi aside
So that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Pepsi is getting warm,
And I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi,
A vase of flowers on the counter
Catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Pepsi on the counter and
Discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk,
But first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter,
Fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I'll be looking for the remote,
But I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table,
So I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
But first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers,
But quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table,
Get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to
Remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:
The car isn't washed,
The bills aren't paid,
There is a warm can of
Pepsi sitting on the counter,
The flowers don't have enough water,
There is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
And I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day,
And I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,
And I'll try to get some help for it,
but first I'll check my Facebook page......

Pat Craker, so good to see your post!  For the benefit of the others, I had a cush on this girl in 6th grade. A very pretty girl and great personality. I used to ride my bike past her house so I could wave hi, but her dad was a really big guy!  I vaugely remember giving her a plastic ring that was wrapped around a gumball.  ;)

Fastforward to 10th grade on Fair Day at Ridgeview.  The 10th graders were playing softball against the faculty. As I walked up to bat I saw Pat and her friends sitting nearby watching the game.  Then, from that direction, I heard "oh there's Larry...he's my boyfriend....he gave me a ring"  (ha ha).  I'm positive that the field turned crimson from the radiance of my blush.

Shallow as it sounds, my greatest sourse of pride in Napa Junction School = the sheer volumne of good looking girls that came out of that 6th grade class! I thought I'd stumbled into heaven.  I remember Pat, Margo, Lynn Brooks, Jan Neely, Leida Barrios, Karen Rippy, and Barbara Ryan, just to name a few. My social acceptance at Ridgeview was cemented the moment that the Ridgeview boys saw me step off the same school bus with these girls.

And who can forget the Fleming brothers Don and Charlie? Charlie, along with Howard Tingstrom, was one of the few boys I knew that was not the least bit nervous around girls. I was amazed. I hope we see at least one of them at the reunion.

I also started life at Federal Terrace, but we moved to Indiana when I was two years old, and I didn't return until 5th grade at Napa Junction (1957 I think).  I found Ken's account of school prior to that time facinating.

Lynn,

I remember that truck too, it was called the "mobile grocery" and that guy later founded a grocery store there of the same name.  I remember buying ice cream, and bakery goods from him.  I even bought a bottle of "evening in paris" for my mom for mothers day, and I'm pretty sure that I got it from that truck.

There was also a kid who delivered TV guide door to door.

Anybody remember Miller's grocery Store?  I think they renamed it Ashermans later on.

Charmy Ann!! My goodness, I read everything and I was picturing the keystone cops. What a great day you had! Lol

Hi Gang,

Larry, I used to wait for that truck every week to get my "Archie" comic book!  Loved that truck.

As for Am Can kids, there was also Van Clouse who lived near Barbara Ryan, Pam Keith and Clifford Hartle (or a similar last name) who lived near me.  I'll bet if we could get together we could name most of kids in Rancho and surrounding area.

Janet, yes, our parents were friends and that's really how I first met you.  We also did sleep overs in grade school.

Karen Rippey was a good friend in grade school, however, when my sister and I transferred to Silverado Junior High we lost track of nearly everyone except Diane Gallagher.  Thank goodness there were new friends to be made.  I find it funny though that I remember more of the kids I went to grammar school with than the remaining years of school.

Look forward to seeing all of you again!

Hi Larry,

Is that grocery store the little one that was on the highway?  Those were the days my mother would give me a list of 10 items to bring home, no problem .. today I can't remember two things without a list!!

Diane - Thanks for the info -- you guys must have kept your past under wraps.

Charlene -- yep; mustache in place; how did you know?

Larry -- What's a cush?  Sounds like fun.

Debby - that may have been at Stephanie Stevenson house.  Does anyone know what happened to her?  Larry - you are so right about Millers becoming Ashermans Market.  When my Mom shopped we would go to the butcher part of the store and I would get a raw hotdog.  I also remember loading up my parents station wagon with empty coke bottles and taking them back to Ashermans for a refund.  If I remember right Patsty Crackers Mom worked at the post office in the store.  Anyone know anything about Jackie Miller?

Mrs. Pampell's class.  The folder has 4th grade written on it but this looks like Salvador School, which would have been 3rd grade, 1955.  Yes, my eyes are closed.  Timing is everything.

The gang at Shurtleff Victory School - Shipyard Acres, which was also temporary housing built for the shipyard workers and their families.  We lived there until it closed and then moved into Napa.
