Kenneth Roger “Kenny” Dawson, 73, left this world on Friday, June 8, 2018. He passed away at his Kansas City, Missouri home following a 14-month battle with leukemia.

He was born October 3, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri to W. Herb and E. Lucille (Mynatt) Dawson.

He married Anna Smith on June 12, 1964. They met in their teens while both were working at Red X in Riverside, Missouri.

Kenny worked for Leonard Brothers Trucking and was a member of the Teamsters Local 41 before becoming disabled.

His hobbies included cooking, boating, fishing, and trapping crawdads. And he was a fan of bluegrass music. Kenny was a huge NASCAR follower and loved local auto racing at I-70 Speedway and Lakeside Speedway. In his later years he taught himself how to play the fiddle.

Survived by his wife of 53 years and son, Roger Dawson (Doug Obermann) of Kansas City, Missouri. His surviving siblings include a brother W. Herb Jr, of Kansas City, Missouri, and a sister, Rebecca (Dean) Jones of Springfield, Missouri; plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 11 at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri. Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 12 at 10:00 a.m. at White Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (lls.org) or to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).

I just found out about Kenny who I lost tract with.  We lived across the fence from each other in old Avondale.  I have fond memories of how we used to tease each other as kids while still in Grade school. Kenny, I hope you achieved your goals in life and I'm so sorry to hear of the cancer you must've suffered with.  I hope you found the peace only God can give.
