
Allen Dobberstine was a master carpenter who lived in Galveston, Texas. He was married to Mardi Mitchell and had 2 sons by a previous marriage. His oldest son, Jim, is a professor of invironmental studies at the University of Houston. His second son, Travis is an industrial psycologist. Allen invented a special 2 inch wood screw for vises and wood working. He and Mardi had a company that marketed his invention. Allen passed away in March of 2000, succumbing to COPD.

Allen and I were neighbors. We attended Golden Oaks elementary, Northgate Junior High and then high school. We lost track over the years and I was shocked to hear of his passing.

Allen and I both were into radios in HS and we were drafted into the Army the same day. He retired from the Army in basic training with a medical. The last time I saw Allen he was working at Sears Auto. After that we lost tract of each other.
