Dan Keith

Dan was a great guy. We worked together at the Texaco Station across from "In A Tub" Dan's father was a car dealer and Dan always had a "cool Car" a Jeep with a Chevy v8 engine, a Willys coupe with a v8 engine. One night, right before Thanksgiving 1962, Dan and I got drunk, jumped in his silver 1962 Chevy Impala v8 4 speed and drove to my brother's home on Coronado Island(San Diego), California. We stayed about 8 days and went to Tijuana many times. On the way there on Route 66 we stopped in Scottsdale, Arizona to see one of our classmates Donna Macey. We lost a gallon of rum on an indian reservation. Wonder what those indians did with that "firewater"? That probably saved us from some trouble. Dan was a good friend and I will miss him dearly.

Here is the obituary on Dan:

Dan was an exceptional person, and will be missed by many. He died at home with his family by his side, courageously and full of love. Dan was born in Emporia, KS to Glenn Keith and Frances Ryan Keith, and was raised there and in North Kansas City, MO. He graduated from North Kansas City High School. He worked as a printer and lithographer, and was a proud union member. In 1966, while enrolled at Emporia State University, Dan was drafted into the Army and served honorably in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, the "Brave Rifles." In 1968, Dan moved to California, lived in Berkeley briefly and then settled in San Francisco. Dan loved the city since childhood, when he drove "out west" with his father on business trips. Dan first attended City College of San Francisco and then transferred to San Francisco State University in September of 1969, where he met the love of his life, Lisa Feldman. They were married in Pacific Grove, CA on March 21, 1971. Dan received his B.A. in Anthropology in 1972. Children Peter and Allison were born, and the young family moved to Santa Rosa, CA in 1977. Dan worked in the car business for many years, and also worked in real estate and for the City of San Rafael. He was known and respected as an honest and good man. Dan and Lisa lived in Santa Rosa until 1997, when they embarked on an adventure that first brought them to Burlington, IA. Seven months later, they moved to Las Cruces, NM, where they enjoyed the beauty and serenity of the desert. In 2005, Dan retired as Customer Relations Manager from Las Cruces Toyota. Dan and Lisa returned to San Francisco to be closer to their family. Dan was a constant presence and source of strength for his wife and children and for his entire extended family. Dan was a second father to many, as well as a great friend. Those who knew Dan learned so much from him. He was kind and humble, and had a passion for justice and compassion for the unfortunate. He respected the wisdom of older people and the energy of young people. All who knew Dan enjoyed his keen and unique perspective and wonderful sense of humor. He knew how to tell a good story, and was a great conversationalist. Dan had wanderlust. He loved the back roads and found great pleasure in exploring new places. Dan especially enjoyed music, reading, art, good food, sports, and was a long-time Giants fan. He loved dogs, especially Nadja and Max. Dan liked strolling through Golden Gate Park and spending time at Ocean Beach. "Grandpa Dan" got so much joy from his grandchildren, Joel and Ruth, who found him to be a great playmate. Dan is survived by his wife Lisa Keith; daughter Allison Keith; son Peter Keith and wife Jennifer; brother Glenn "Skip" Keith, Jr.; mother-in-law Sylvia Berger; brother-in-law Mark Feldman; niece Heidi Keith; nephews Tom Keith, Mickey Keith, Emmett Feldman, and Alex Feldman; grandchildren Joel Keith and Ruth Keith; numerous beloved cousins who loved their "Danny"; several great-nieces, and many dear friends. Dan cherished the memory of his parents and grandparents, his sister-in-law Dorothy "Kitten" Keith, his aunt Vera Ryan Schmidt, his many other aunts and uncles, and his great friend John Donovan. Some of Dan's ashes will be scattered in the San Francisco Bay, as well as at a few other places that were special to him. A celebration of Dan's life will be held for friends and family in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan's honor may be made to the San Francisco Food Bank, 900 Pennsylvania Ave., San Francisco, CA 94107, or at www.sffoodbank.org.
