In Memory

Brent Kincaid

Brent Kincaid

Classmate Brent Kincaid passed away on Sunday, 7/21/19.  The following was posted by his husband, Brett:

“In loving memory of my beautiful husband, best friend, and love of my life Brent. Thank you to everyone who has shared their love and concern for Brent during the battle with his particularly aggressive form of metastatic urothelial cancer. Brent passed away Sunday morning in bed lying in my arms with Vickie and his best friend Jim bedside.

In an effort to stabilize enough to return home to Kauai for comfort care and hospice, we attempted immunotherapy combined with palliative radiation treatments but his fragile body just couldn’t take it. He decided to stop treatments last Monday and entered home hospice at my sister’s house in San Jose. We were incredibly grateful to have such a nurturing second home to retreat to.

His decline was rapid just as his metastasis had been, but it gave us just enough time for a precious few of his closest family and friends to visit. He was truly joyful to see these loving faces bedside and I’m equally grateful for their love, support and presence. Brent touched so many that there was simply no way to reach out to all with the time he had left. But I know that his impact will stay with those loved ones for the rest of their days!

Brent will live on through us, and his special touch will ripple through time with the effect he has had on us all. He will be so greatly missed, but will be eternally remembered. Please know how important you all were to us both.”

I will miss your poetry, your fierce political beliefs, your humor and your intelligence, Brent.

Brent, dear friend, you had a real knack for drawing: quickly and joyfully.

It seems you found happiness.  You certainly deserved it.

I always wondered if you ever got to Hawaii.  It seems you did.

My cousin, Brent, was like a brother to me and I will miss him deeply. His last years were happy, he moved to the beautiful island of Kuai and made his living making items for sale at the local gift shops, married his long time love. The world has lost a wonderful man.

R.I.P. Brent. I will miss your friendship as well as your political commentary, pointed poetry and direct honesty. That you found great happiness and love brings me joy and that joy will remain side by side with my sadness that you are gone.
