In Memory

Artie Macdonald

Arthur B. Macdonald, 73 of Platte City, Missouri passed away April 5, 2018 at KU Medical Center after a brave battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Art was born October 16, 1944. He graduated from North Kansas City High School 1962 and later earned his Associates Degree from UMKC. He was married to his sweetheart Joyce Benton in 1966 (They have celebrated 51 years together).

After the service Art began his career with TWA and American Airlines as Supervisor-Hangar, MCI Base Maintenance and retired after working for 37 years.

Art will always be remembered for his fun-loving sense of humor. He never met a stranger. He will be lovingly remembered by family and a wide circle of friends. Artie is survived by his wife, Joyce of 51 years, his daughter Stacy Kay Bales, 3 granddaughters, Kayla, Courtney, and Sydney, Sister Mary Ann Sapp (Dale), Sister-In Law Sandra Kay Carpenter (Mickey), Nephews James Carpenter (Dana), Jeff Carpenter (Ann), Nieces Julie Thrasher (Gerald), Brenda Shores (Craig) and many great nieces and great nephews, best friends Larry and Sharon Sapp. Art was preceded in death by his only Son - Scott Arthur Macdonald.

Artie had many hobbies and passions. Some of which involved telling stories, woodworking and making things, driving the tractor on his famous hayrides, dancing, dominos, traveling the world, and cruises, but his biggest passions were his family and spending time with friends. Becoming “PaPa” was such a special event and he earned that title from 3 special granddaughters. Artie is now at peace and reunited with his Son Scott!

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to your favorite charity, American Cancer Society or Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth in Art’s honor.

A great guy indeed!! Artie, Larry Sapp, Mike Thompson, Martye Underwood, Laura Brown, Maggie Long and I (and others) were classmates and friends at Englewood Elementary School in the 50's...and what glorious and fun days those were! As many of you know, Artie and Larry Sapp--and Joyce and Sharon, their spouses--have remained lifelong best friends! For those of you who are interested, a more inclusive obituary and many beautiful photos can be viewed on the White Chapel Gladstone website. With the passing of Artie, we have definitely lost one of the good guys; but we all have special memories of a very special guy. He will be missed.

A terrific guy. Art and I along with Larry Sapp cruised a lot together for 3 years after High School until Uncle Sam got us. Thoughts and prayers for his family.
