David Lee Thomas, 76, a resident of Avondale, MO passed away Friday, February 26, 2021 at his home with his loving family by his side.  David was born November 13, 1944 to John Earl and Leta Caroline (Vanzandt) Thomas in Kansas City, MO.David was a United States Army veteran and proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era.  He was also an active member of the Vietnam Veterans of America organization.

David enjoyed being outdoors: landscaping, gardening and maintaining a well-trimmed and manicured yard.  He was an avid Kansas City Chief’s fan.  David will forever be remembered as a loving husband, step-father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend.  He will be greatly missed by everyone.

David is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Sandra “Sandy” Thomas; his stepchildren: John and Adri; two grandsons, Scott and Jamison; and four granddaughters: Sarah, Ashley, Alexandria and Julianna; a brother, Norman Thomas and his wife, Jean; his five canine buddies and one feline friend.  He was preceded in death by his parents and step-daughter, Valerie.

A Celebration of David’s life will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville, MO. Masks will be required and social distancing enforced.  A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, March 4, 2021 at White Chapel Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions are suggested to Vietnam Veterans of America; Donate to VVA | Vietnam Veterans of America.  Memories of David and condolences to the family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com

David and I go back to the 5th grade at Gashland Elementry , Eastgate , then N K C . We grew up in 

Gashland , Ralph Hobbs , Larry Mitchel , Rick St John . so many good times . Even though the years

have gone by I have so many great memories .God bless you David till we meet again .
