My father, our Superintendent, left us way too soon. He had retired in 1977 from the NKC School District to spend more time with family, his beloved Doolin Family Farm in Windyville, MO, and to travel which he and my mother loved to do. He was most proud of all the students who graduated from NKC Schools. He always gave credit for our award winning school district to this community and their electing outstanding members to the Board of Education, funding the schools adequately and supporting the students in all their endeavors. He also believed that the best leaders surround themselves with the best and the brightest and to support and encourage them to do their very best work. We are all the beneficiaries of a great team of education professionals. Upon his retirement he said that he and my mother, a Master's prepared teacher, could not have spent their lives in a more fulfilling way than that of helping young people reach their full potential. If he were alive today, he would marvel at all we have accomplished as individuals and would urge us to continue to give back to our communities in every way we can. He would also encourage us to remain active and involved in lifelong learning. He was a voracious reader and loved history. This was a man who also loved to be active and until the moment he died in his sleep, nothing gave him more joy than being with family and friends and riding his old Ford tractor around the farm. Thanks for recognizing him on this website. SDA
