Glenn Gartland

Hi John,

I heard the same information as Pam Brock about the Borio's auction.  Karl (Fred) Snyder called me and had seen the information on FaceBook.  Sad to hear that we may be witnessing the "end of an era".  Maybe Nestico's in NS can handle another Cicero/North Syracuse onslaught if the Borio's auction is completed by the target date for our 50 + 1 celebration

Thanks for letting me know. I will reach out to Marty Borio and see where they stand as far a reservations.

The auction scenario may only be a way to find out how much the property is worth on the open market.

Will keep everyone posted on this site so please stay tuned!

Everywhere in the country is experiencing a lack of restaurant workers. Has to be really hard when the staff knows a place is for sale! My sympathies to the Borio family. They worked so hard for so many years!

Any suggestions on back up venues would be appreciated! Wish I still lived 12 houses east of Borio's! I would have the reunion there! Have faith! We will have a reunion!

Here is what I know right now. Marty Borio told me the auction is being used as a gauge for property value. They may not have an actual buyer, He did tell me though that looking for a back up venue may be prudent in case they sell at auction to a non restaurant enitity.

I will investigate other venues, but told Marty we would stay with them until the last minute if need be.

A couple venues come to mind. Lakeshore Yacht Club is one. Another is The Spinning Wheel Restaurant in Cicero. They do clambake etc. Please chime in with other suggestions!

In the immortal words of David Lee Murphy, "Don't go hitting that panic button". We will have a reunion!

Hi John , first thanks for all your work you put into this. Here are some ideas in case Borio's can not have it. My first choice would be " The Old School Room " in Cicero , maybe a little small but good Kruger Beer on tap. Another could be Lums  on Rt 11 in North Syracuse . You know where I mean it is right in front of J M Fields. Or how about the Clay hotel or Hinerwadel's for a clam bake? Webers on the north side would be good also, they always have cold Schaefer on tap. If people do not mind going to Dewitt we could check out  " The Scene" , I think they may have changed there name now to Uncle Sams??  Just some ideas .    Jim

I have been gone from Syr so have no preference for location. Just keep the dates and I will be ok with whatever.

Jim Nels your ideas are hysterical !!! John the places you mention sound great as far as location they are still within an area for hotels for out of town people.  Hopefully we can stay with Borios for one last time . Thank you for all your work !!

Hey Jim
You forgot Wanda's in Dewitt! And for the Mattyfale gang how about Shultze's or Camnel's! The Lyncourt people might even want it at The Loop! Rosie would vote for Jim's Fish Fry! For the Cicero alumni we could try Shay's Tavern! For the NS villagers we could try Irish's Hotel or Bill's Tavern!

We could do this all day! When did we find time for school?

Hothouse Brewing at Barone Gardens, 6200 S Bay Rd, Cicero (just north of Gillette Rd Middle School, NE at the intersection of South Bay Rd and Thompson Rd) is a relatively new venue of an existing local business.  Among their services are group events and house-brewed beer.  Sara and I will be attending a fundraiser there on 7/20/21, so I'll relate the experience.

Marty Barone graduated at Cicero in 1970. I remember him. When I lived on the lake we would buy plants at their greenhouse. At one point they went big time with many new modern greenhouses. Have not been that way in years. Hope you have a good time Sam! My son gave me a good review on the brewery when they first opened!

I'm with Pam Perry Brock--I've also been away a long time so as long as our 9/19/21 date doesn't change I'm fine with whatever venue John can 'reserve' for us.  And THANK YOU again John FOR ALL YOUR EFFORTS ON OUR BEHALF.  I would like to request name tags with grad pictures on them IF possible.  After being away so long I doubt that I'll be able to recognize anyone after 50+1 years!

At the upcoming reunion it would be nice to be able to get into the school and see what it looks like today compared to when our class comprised the first inhabitants at the Cicero facility. Perhaps on the Saturday prior to our reunion (assuming Sunday doesn't work out)? Also, has there been any thought about giving a class gift to the school? I don't have a particular suggestion at this time and wonder if there is a precedent for this kind of gesture. It would be nice for the inaugural class (at Cicero) to do something as a way to be remembered.

Didn't we give a class gift when we graduated? Remember this is a joint reunion with NS. It is not all about Cicero.

I did contact the school administrators about tours of the present day schools. They said it was not possible because they are concerned about Covid! I offered that we could wear masks but the second response was a firm no!

I also mentioned that perhaps a few of the alumni might be interested in viewing a football, soccer game or band practice near our reunion date. Again, the Covid issue was raised.

Any suggestions or comments?

Also interested in others opinions on a class gift. I really never considered it.

Feeling guilty about the gift thing?  Do a go fund me for current.CNS resident classmates.  We'll use it to pay our school taxes.🤣  For what it's worth, our school system continues to be generally well respected by our residents.  I still enjoy attending Friday night high school games, football or lacrosse, normally with my younger grandchildren and/or daughter who teaches math at rival Liverpool HS.😎

I would have to agree with Pam on this for gift giving, it is a split reunion where North Syracuse High is no longer here and Cicero High is now CNS let us just have our memories and stories to pass along to our kids as the gift.

I too am with Pam and Peggy on the 'charter class' gift to the school.  I am really disappointed that as charter class grads we aren't permitted to tour the CHS building.  As a charter class grad who moved away in my mid-20's this would be my last chance!  Very sad in especially in light of the loss and/or destruction of almost all of our CHS sports and music trophies, etc.  While I understand the continuing COVID situation, I don't understand why we can't be accommodated by those wanting to tour simply showing proof of vaccination and of course wearing a mask.

Regarding Barone's Hot House (ph 315-288-5929) as a contingent reunion facility:  Generally closed SUNDAY - Tuesday.  John Barone says they can generally handle up to 50, but this would be an outside and/or NON-air conditioned, rather open inside area.  They have a wine and home brew beer bar.  The horderves, meatballs, pulled pork & chicken were good, but the non-AC indoor area could be challenging with a late heat wave and the atmosphere a bit spartanic.  Nice staff and a clean place to grab some food and a sit down beverage.

I'm holding out for Borio's, but then, I'm local.

Hi Everyone,
Might check with Rogues Roost Country Golf Club on Rte. 31 It is open & I know they use to hold banquets & wedding receptions there. Just another idea if Borio's doesn't work out.

Everyone have a good day !

Good morning Everyone, I just went to a graduation party at the spinning wheel they did a nice job. It was large enough, and inside and outside. Just a thought.

So far only 29 responses to the reunion survey. Please reach out to others and tell them to reply ASAP.

Replies for attending or not attending would be helpful.

Is there anyone that still lives in the area that could contact any local publications that might advertise the reunion?

Any public bulletin boards that could have a notice attached?

Thanks for all and any help!

John
