My all time fav junk cereal was .  Okay, the truth be told, I STILL love them! They first came out in 1958, and are basically KIX corn cereal with chocolate flavor added instead of fruit flavor. Hmmm, I haven't had them in ages, so of course now I have them on the brain and will probably buy a box tomorrow and indulge myself in some wistful childhood breakfast memories!

Well and good for those who LOVE chocolate... but how about "Krinkles".. "Sugar Puffs"... or "Raisin Bran?" Actually, it seems to me now that about EVERYTHING in those years was coated in sugar!.. If not, we added piles of our own! My old dentist LOVED it. How bout the hidden prizes, toy mail-ins, and exciting inclusions often found in our cereal? Shredded Wheat had Indian lore and survival skills as well as "Mark Trail" outdoor stuff as I remember. The Lone Ranger fit in there somewhere. Breakfast was often an adventure!

Connie Francis? Ooooh, what a doll! I've ALWAYS had a crush on her. Dick Clark and I both had Excellent taste!... She's now showing her age, but Connie's majic is still there. What a talent!... I'd still love to share an Italian dinner and red wine with her!

Hello from one who wanted to go to reuinion but was told it was sold out.

The former meeting planner in me (and my still friend after all these years, Ann Mary Cohen) said GO--someone will cancel but I played by the rules and stayed away. I learned about the event from Margot Danziger and Ann Mary and from this site.

(If this is not showing up as a new message but as an add response, please excuse my error.)

I'd love to see O'siders in and around NYC where I have lived for 30-ish years. As a culinary instructor, and cookbook author (specialty plant based whole foods and particularly desserts, and very particularly vegan chocolate desserts, I travel. All over. I've been this year in AZ, Boston, PA, FL, Port Townsend, Seatle, Portand OR,  at least, and at end of this month I'm going to San Francisco and LA for events. Well, LA to see granddaughters too. It occurred to me that I could post here when I am doing an event in hopes of someone from our class coming. If you anyone is in or near San Francisco on May 2, I'm inviting you to a really fun soiree at the VegNews offices, 6 to 9pm. Cooking demos, tastings, wine and swag bags. If you care to check out my schedule of events, do so at www.francostigan.com/blog. I'll heading up a Vegan Tour to Amalfi Coast this summer (July 25 to Aug 1st)-- no you need not be vegan- think delicious food, wine, scenery and a Vegan Cruise to Alaska that leaves from Seattle, Sept 19 to 26. I always stay on one side or the other of events so I can visit with friends and family. Who'd have ever thought I could have so much fun doing what I love, and more and more. http://www.francostigan.com

My father died 3 years ago and my mother died last Oct. Margot was a great comfort as were Ann Mary and Linda Bayless. My son and his family- 2 granddaughters live in LA although they are moving to Berlin for the next school year (he's got a movie there). That means Berlin before Italy for me. My daughter and her husband and 2 sons are in New Hope PA.

This is a long update but my intention is to try to meet up with friends from long ago.

With warmest regards,

Fran

It's a shame you missed the reunion. Would have loved to see you. I renewed friendship with Margot and enjoyed dinner with her and Michael this winter. Will be doing it again next winter.

Hi Fran -

Bob Sherman and I both have offices in NYC and I also keep an apartment there.  I recall that last year Bob was trying to set up a get together but it did not work out then.  Would like to try again.

Enjoy your Italy tour, Amy and I will be in Sicily and the Amalfi coast the month before. Sorry we'll miss you there.

Best,

Mike

Hi Fran,

Would love to have seen you at the reunion, I really didn't know a lot of people from OHS as I was only there the last 2 1/2 years. But I do remeber you. Sounds like an exciting career in food. For awhile I had a catering business, actually spent 2 weeks with Martha Stewart in CT at her seminar, a long time ago. (well before she went to jail.) And when I worked for TWA I did all the menus for our First Class lounge at JFK. That was a lot of fun. Of course I got to travel a lot too. Maybe we should have a mini get together this summer. I'm sure a bunch of people would be interested.

Have a great time in Italy! My favorite place for excellent food (though I'm not vegan).

                                           Buon Appettito!

I also worked in the culinary area in cross-cultural event design and fundraising.  In 1990, I was planning a tour to promote Mexican and Latino Foods with a wonderful chef from Peru, Chef Felipe Rojas-Lombardi, who owned The Ballroom in NYC.  When he died very young, I worked with Hiram Walker to showcase the few restaurants and leader chefs at the time.  We did on-stage Performing Kitchens that Chef Felipe was known for.  It was to be part of the James Beard Foundation agenda -- The Chef Felipe Rojas Lombardi Scholarship Fund.  (He had been James Beard's assistant for years).  The JBF Foundation leaders at the time spoke out, "Your food will never be on white table cloths."  With Hiram Walker and Douglas Rodriguez coming to support, the rest is history.  I handled marketing for the launch of Zona Rosa on 56th  Street in 2004.

I salute Fran.  Your website is great and is promoting a global vegan agenda.  I am in DC,  a recent, but surging, great food center.

Regards.

Fran, in reading the other responses, I realized we have something in common besides graduating from OHS.

I was a cook in the Army as well as when I transferred to the Air Force.  That cooking and yours are worlds apart.  I have always told Amy that based on my service MOS (military occupational specialty), I would be glad to do the cooking for a dinner party.  The only condition is that based on my training manuals, we need to have at least 500 guests for dinner.  To date, I have never been asked to cook.

Fran,

Thanks for catching us all up on what's going on in your life. Sounds exciting and I will check out your website so maybe you and I can get back in touch. I didn't make the reunion last year, either because I was coaching football out here in San Diego. Good luck on all of your exploits and have fun!!

Oh! I think I just found the right place for posting responses. I have been replying to indivual notes and not sure where the end up.

Judd, it is so nice to hear from you. Sunny San Diego... that's really nice. For a short time I lived in Oceanside CALIFORNIA and visited San Diego often. I looks like the most heavenly place in this country. I am a winter hater. Maybe you and I will get to the next reunion. Or have some mini ones here and there. Take care,
Fran

Fran,

I loved watching you make the chocolate cake. Looks great (and so do you) and I plan on trying it.

Mark--my cousin's son Michael Leonard writes about aviation law for Thomson Reuters West. It appears that our class produced a lot of lawyers. I am on the faculty of the City University of New York School of Law. My trial practice students are doing their mock jury trials this week. My focus is on civil rights and employment discrimination especially sexual harassment and race.

Judd--Where are you coaching football? It also looks like the class produced a number of coaches.

Hi Rick, It's so good to hear from you. Make that cake-- it's easy and really out of this world. Owner (and vegan nasayer, of UWS pastry shop just wrote to tell me it was best chocolate cake she ever ate. But enough about cake. So many people who watched the cookbook trailer told me what a nice kitchen I had. Sure, kitchen like that in NYC! It's my kids kitchen in LA, as Linda, my daughter in law produced the little film.

Your work sounds interesting and important. Good for you, and as a citizen, thank you. I have a female friend/colleage now facing what we are sure is gender discrimination in the workplace. Do you live in NYC? It has its advantages for sure, but Judd has the weather!

Take care. Fran

Hi Fran:

Yes, I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and it is an easy commute to the Law School in LIC across from the Citi Corp building. Love living in Manhattan most of the time, but also have a weekend and vacation house in western Massachusetts in the Berkshires. Great combination of country and culture. (Great culture in the Berkshires too and easier to get tickets.)

And I hope to have time this summer to try baking your cate. Is your daughter a film maker? Both of my daughters are in film. My oldest is  a line producer for Bollywood (Indian) films made in this country for the Indian audience. I highly recommend "English Vinglish" which she co-produced. My younger daughter is a video "shooter" and editor. She shot Lena Dunham's (of"Girls" HBO fame) first internet film, "Downtown Divas."

Nice to be in touch with you,

Rick

Fran Hemendinger (Costigan)

Hi Rick wouldn't it be something if we were neighbors as I am on UWS too. That actually just happened with a colleague. We were waiting for elevator, each holding mail and we said, what are you doing here.

My email: fran@francostigan.com. I'd love to catch up. I'll be back from CA May 8 and in town til May 27th. Around a good part of June.

My daughter is a clinical psychogist/ scientist. It's my son and his wife who are filmmakers. My son does feature films and you would know them. Linda, his wife does documentary films and more. I will check out your daughter's films. Your work sounds fascinating.

Take care

Rick,

I was coaching football in a little town just outside the San Diego area. I'm done coaching now actually after 45 years of it at the high school, college, and semi-pro levels but my son is playing right now so I wanted to watch him play! Good to hear from you and congratulations on your career and the careers of your kids! It would be nice if you and Fran got together since you're both on the west side of NYC! If you do, have a drink for ME!! :-) Take care of yourself!!

Judd

Thursday - April 30, 2015 report from the hill:

Blue skies with puffy clouds up here in NH this morning, and the sun is out. Cool but pleasant outside, and the air is sweet and clean. (Yes, Margot.. it's once more like the air in that bottle I sent you!)  Flowers and Day Lilies are sprouting around the fields, the deer are fed, and I just realized that a Chipmunk has made his hole in a damp hollow at the bottom of the hill below the septic mound. That foolish thing is going to be sorry when a heavy rain eventually falls!.. The Chipmunks and our resident Woodchuck are my buddies.

Hope that all is well out in "Sailor-Land", and that all are doing good things! Bob Bosch is off to Maryland today with his wife, Arnold Levine is teaching his students Espaniole (however it's spelled), Ray Castoldi is stomping on Fire Ants in Texas, Brian Moriarty is eating a California Omellet for breakfast, and Scotty Colquhoun is probably counting his winnings from last night's Florida horse race. Some of you are traveling, and others are lieing in the sun. Interesting isn't it, that we've all journied different roads, and now deal with priorities very much different than those of the 1960's. It's an entirely different world today... but memories, fried clams, and all that good Rock N Roll music are still there to be savored!... Doo Whaa

Down to the basement now for this old sailor to continue with my ongoing, and never ending projects. The old Fords are freshly alligned and ready for cruise night, but I still have NO hood for the 1950... Whaaaaaa!.. What would Fonzi do?

Roger--take a breathe of fresh air for me.as I am saving my "special bottle"..which is proudly displayed in our office. Warmer weather prevails in FL but not complaining as we have good A/C plus pools and ocean. Stay well and enjoy spring..FINALLY
