Carol, Glad you had a good birthday. I meant to call you the other day to wish you a happy birthday, plus a little light bulb went off in my head and I had something I wanted to talk to you about. Unfortunately, the bulb was a cheapy Wal-mart special and flicked out almost immediately. So I still need to talk to you. If you get a chance call me this weekend. Hopefully, I'll remember what I wanted to tell you.

I need a little info on the bar b que. Are we all going to chip in for the food when we get there or is this a potluck and we all bring dish to share? Tell me what I need to bring and I will be happy to do so. See you all next Saturday.

Just spoke with Mirtha. Linda has the hot dogs and burgers covered. Someone's making potatoe salad, beans, etc, condiments are covered.

NOT NECESSARY to bring anything but your own alcohol, or if you want something specific to drink.

If you want to bring a small side dish to share you can, but again not necessary.

Mostly, bring yourself

Mirtha Camacho (Rayburn)

A monetary contribution is not necessary.

Our desire is that everyone bring and share their "Class of 68" Paramount Pirate Spirit along with the booze of their choice. There will be sodas and water.

Linda wants to provide the hamburger and hot dogs, and other classmates have offered to bring some side dishes If any one is inclined to bring chips, dip, salsa or anything else I am certain it will be appreciated and enjoyed by all.

Looking forward to seeing everyone that can make it. If there is any classmate out there that has not been able to commit to coming, and it's the day of the gathering, get in your mode of transportation and come on down to Linda's we would love to see you.

SEE THE GLORY OF THE ROYAL SCAM Photo by Forrest Gump (OK a waitress at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co) Roland & Lorene, Donna, Lonnie, Genevieve, Pat, Dee, Mirtha, Geneva, Don Dateline: Hollywood, Universal City Walk, August 24, 2009 Various and sundry pirates once again gathered at the Gibson Amphitheater, this time, to witness Steely Dan perform The Royal Scam in it's intirity, cut for cut. The show opened with a jazz group, and then the backup band opened the main show with a pure jazz number. Then the main players, Donald Fagan, Walter Becker, 2 more guitars and the backup singers came out. One of the backups approached a pedistal with a turntable, placed a record album on said turntable, and the show began with side 1, cut 1, Kid Charlemagne. 5 cuts later the singer flipped the record over and the rest of the album was performed. Non-stop, no commentary or intros. Once the Royal Scam was over Fagan began infroming us with each song of the principle performers as selected hits were performed. A great evening shared with great friends. THANK YOU MIRTHA. THANK YOU LORENE & ROLAND. And we all had a real good time.

Mirtha, thank you, thank you for the wonderful evening. The music brought back lots of fond memories. What can I say, the man still has the magic and determination. What a performance. He seemed to have captured one moment in time for everyone. The music, the rhythum and the entertainment. What fantic musicans they all are.

Don & Geneva thank you for the ride to the threatre. It was really a pleasure seeing everyone. Bubba Gump (Forest Gump) you can have your chocolate back, because your shrimp is yummy. Don I emailed the pictures to you from last night. I should have taken more, I think I was caught up in the moment.

Thank you all for a very delightful and entertaining evening. It was really appreciated by Roland and I.

Going to be a busy weekend. My daughter gets the keys to her house on Saturday, so I will be in two places at once. We should arrive at the BBQ by 3:00 p.m. I would like to bring a side dish that I make. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Pat Kuester (Bowen)

Yes, thank you Mirtha it was a wonderful concert. I'll see everyone on Saturday 15 minutes after my great niece blows out her 1 candle.

By the way Don, you were correct, Michael McDonald was a back-up singer for Steely Dan. I was so hoping you were wrong. I'll never doubt you again (until the next time).

Steve
Sorry to hear that you won't be with the rest of us brave pirates. Not to worry, we will not be having any heat stroke victims. Linda has a pool and I am sure we can find some sprinklers to run around in just like when we were kids in Paramount. Who knows we may get caught up in the past and have a wet T shirt contest.

If there are any other pirates out there who are afraid of the heat, come by after it cools down, we will still be there partying like it was "1968"

Great conversation, good laughs, great food and GREAT friends. We had a wonderful time at Linda's End of Summer BBQ. I am so thankful for this site, facebook and the get togethers so that we can keep in touch with our classmate.

Steve and I took a tour of the old neighborhoods. My how things change.

We all missed those that couldn't make it.

Thank you Linda for hosting this get together.

Pictures after breakfast.

Molly Lowe (Davis)

I'm so sorry I had to miss the BBQ yesterday. In addition to watching the grandsons in the AM (son is getting some much needed OT), I had a plumber and a handy man at my place fixing a leaky tub faucet and ceiling fan.

Can't wait to see the pictures once they are posted.

Like Pat, not only was I looking forward to seeing everyone again but I wanted a chance to check out our old stomping grounds.

Thanks so much to Linda for her great backyard, Donna for the great Sangria, Dee for the great bbqing and everyone else who helped with the get-together. It was a lot of fun. There were some guilty feelings when I saw Susie McGill there. I used to see her at Jenny Craig. She is still going, but alas it's been about 20 pounds ago that I had seen her last. Thanks Susie, I guess I'll be seeing you again at Jenny's.

A word to the wise, everyone must really try to make it to these get-togethers. There's a lot of gossiping going on at these functions, and if you're not there guess who gets talked about? I make it to almost every event.

The answer to the hot question last night was Ben Bushnell. I told you it started with a B.

Lorene BuSteed (Householder)

Sorry Roland and I did not make it to the Big Event. The spaghetti salad was made the night before. I went to the store bought all the stuff I needed to make the salad, braved the heat in the kitchen.

Our Saturday morning started out before 8:00 a.m. heading to Redlands to help April and Trent move into their new home. There was a lot of help to empty out their two bedroom apartment and journey to Beaumont in a convoy of trucks one after the other filled with all of their belongings. I thought for sure that we would be able to do the two things and still have time to head to Paramount. Needless to say, April had bought a new kitchen facet and garbage disposal, she asked her dad if he could put it in for her. No dad can refuse his daughter that is so excited. How could I take away all the joy and excitement she was experiencing on this special day. I did not tell her that we were supposed to go to Paramount for a BBQ. Well as Roland was doing his chores, I mentioned it would be a great opportunity for Trent to learn how to fix things in his house and that Roland could show him how to install a facet and disposal, I knew that Roland was having a hard time bending down under the sink. It worked out perfect and Trent learned something too.

April wanted me to go with her to pick up the washing machine and dryer that she and Trent picked out at Best Buy. That took awhile because Best Buy did not have it in stock, they saved us a lot of time by having it delivered today. We shopped for dryer connections etc. plus parts Roland needed for under the sick.

Time seemed to slip away. I went up to Roland and whispered in his ear. It's ok, we can go to another party some other day, this is important and the kids are just so excited.

By the time we got home last night it was nearly 9:00 p.m. We were both exhausted. So I send my apologies and I sincerely hope that everyone understands. I could not walk away from my daughters joy. Both Roland and I were looking forward to seeing everyone.

By the way, we ate the salad for lunch today. It was pretty good.

Phyllis, Happy Birthday to you!

Geneva, on those lids. Can you draw a picture of them on a piece of paper and mail them to me. Put the lid on paper and trace the circle or square. I am sure that I have lids that will fit. Also is there is a color, let me know that too.

Again, my sincerest apologies for not making the party.

Lorene

In the spirit of the farm life, let me plant a seed of thought.

HOMECOMING
NOVEMBER
13TH
(PRETTY SURE ON THE DATE)

Any pirate not attending without good reason will be keel hauled.

08/31/09 08:05 AM #2615

Pat Kuester (Bowen)

Not sure what keel hauled is, but it sounds like it might be more fun than Homecoming.

Happy birthday, Phyllis. My mother is a Virgo also. Give my condolences to Nick.
