Becky Ortiz (Clark (Daly))

Hi everyone....
Great news on your job Mark!

Wondering if anyone is going to be up to meet for breakfast this Sunday morning. I'm meeting up with Steve Bishop for breakfast and we thought it would be fun to ask anyone that would like to join us. This is a last minute plan.....please let one of us know and we will find a place relatively close to the beach - we are both in Orange County. Since it is going to be a hot day in southern ca....close to the beach would be nice and much cooler.

I'll check back if anyone is interested and let you know by Friday the destination :) Hope some can make it.

Becky :)

Mark congrats on the new job! They have the right man for that position.

Mirtha, yes! Count Roland and I in for the tickets. Don emailed me but I had not read the forum first, he just mentioned about the time. Yes, Don and Genenva, lets do it again! Roland and I had a great time with everyone.

Mirtha, glad you had a great time in Hawaii. That is one place that I have not been. Hope to go someday. Would like to take the 15 days cruise back and forth.

Happy Birthday Kathy!

Yes, classmates I too agree this has been a wonderful experience reconnecting. Thank you one and all.

So sorry I have been busy with work, helping my almost 88 year old neighbor whom I adore. There really is not much time left in the day.

Roland still has not gone back to work. Still having the doctor appointments for various things. Still shuffles when he walks. Inspite of it all he has a very positive attitude.

I will be heading up to Northern CA to see Maurene on Friday morning with our mom. Trying to keep mom busy and giving her something to look forward to. She had a GREAT time in Laughlin with all of us. She even danced with my son in the lobby of the Colorado Bell with a jazz band playing. Roland Jr. was a bit imbarrased but mom had this great smile on her face.

Keep in touch everyone, if but just a few words. How about some jokes coming our way from all you funny people.

Lynne hang in there with your parents. Love ya!

Take care,

Love to all

Lorene

Sounds like some more good times in store for you Pirates, breakfast this Sunday. Then another concert thanks to Mirtha and her great connections.I wish I lived closer so I could just take off and meet you all, it's what I need right now in my life to be with some of my old buddies.

Trying to find some humor with my moms situation, yesterday a resident lady who is 100 years old kept asking the aids to give her the phone so she could call her daughter. So, they handed her the cordless phone and she called, no answer. Then she sat there and tried to take the phone apart, just couldn't figure out what it wasn't working. Finally after 30 minutes of the aid continuing to call her 85 year old daughter, they decided to call the front desk, and the receptionist acted like she was a phone operator and told her that the lines in that area were down. WE could all see what was going on and to us it was hilarious. It calmed her down and she went and sat in a chair and started reading her book.

I really think I could sit there everyday and write a comic book.

I turned in an application there yesteday to volunteer there a few hours a week. It's the least I can do, Since I am there everyday anyway, I might as well help do something to help out.

On the 23rd they are having a large city wide meeting of some sort at the facility, and they are setting up an entire room of all of my moms beautiful oil paintings.
She really doesn't even seem to realize what is going on.
Yesterday she couldn't even remember who my boys were when she looked at their photos. This is a horrible disease, and if any of you are ever facing it in any part of your life I want you to know I will always be here for you. Just knowing someone who has traveled this journey before you will help.

This Saturday I will be joining Joanne Hughes family for their family reunion, it should be fun. I will keep you posted.

Love to you all.

Mark & Phyllis:

I think your suggestion that we all write at least every other week or so is fabulous.

Sometimes I hesitate to write because I really don't have a lot to say; life is pretty much the same from day to day - work, work, grandkids almost every weekend, work - well you get the picture. I feel so dull these days.

My company surprised me with a 27% cut in pay (I knew we were doing poorly but they kind of blind-sided me with that) so I've been kind of depressed but I hear stories every day of other people in the same (or worse) situation so I guess we just persevere, huh? Life ain't for sissies.

Also, I love the suggestion that we contact someone we didn't know well and try to establish a friendship. I may just throw a dart (figuratively) at a name on the Classmates Profiles and send an opening email. Anyone who wants to do the same to me, feel free (meaning shoot me an email, not throw a dart at me!).

I can tell you I love to read - it's what centers me and keeps my soul fed- and I love history so anyone with similar interests come on down. I get all twitchy if I don't have at least 2-3 books going at any given time.

So, that's my posting for now, Pirates! (Anyone who hasn't watched the SpongeBob Movie, by the way, ought to - it starts out with Pirates - Arghh! Very funny movie)

Molly

Thank goodness there was no limit on how many times we can post messages!

Mark- Congrats on the Education Consultant position. While I was out of town enjoying myself, my daughter received acceptance of her dissertation on "Online Learning Innovations in Education" so if all goes well, and our prayers are answered, I will be hosting a huge party in honor of all her hard effort and so we can all call her Dr.Rayburn, wish is one of her current visions.

Molly- Sorry to hear about your job. Times are tough, employees can no longer complain about how much work they have with out being reminded how lucky they are to have a job. My office is next to the HR person who terminates/lays off employees, so I have a constant reminder to keep my complaints to a minimum. You should break your routine and join us on one of our concert trips. Maybe you and Larry Haskins can join us next Friday. So far we have 14 Pirates attending.

Becky,
Great location, lots to do in the area. Across the street along the marina on Sundays is the Farmers Market, ane one of the area favorite spots Schooner or Later. Most important it will be a great location for a group of Pirates to get together again.

Carol,
Will count you and Jim in for Friday. Should be another fun time.

Mirtha,

Roland and I have decided to drive to the Universal Studios on Friday for the concert, where and what time should we all meet up at?

It might be easier for me because I get off from work at 4:30 p.m.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hi everyone,

Just spend the weekend in Pomona and the LA County Fair. Had a great time, if anyone would like a great place to stay, the Sheraton is connected to the red gate fair entrance. We walked about 20 yards to the gate plus the Sheraton sells the tickets for $10 ea a $4.00 savings....We shopped and ate our way thru the fair....

Are any of the classmates car pooling to the concert Friday night and if so where are we meeting?

Hello Pirates

I was down in SoCa and went to PHS, got a visitors badge and took pictures....the only thing is...I don't know who to load them into my Classmate profile and make them available for all to view..... can anyone help me????

The cafeteria food line, those little windows, seem so little now. The Senior square had a different feel and I spotted one dedicated memory brick (I think that's what they are called) so, you will have to wait to see it.

any advise on how to load these pictures???

Becky

Becky Ortiz (Clark (Daly))

Thanks Charnetia..... followed your directions..simple.

I have posted in my classmate profile....the PHS pictures I took during my visit to Southern Ca this past week.... the campus in many ways was the same within the grounds ..... the exterior was different, but was tastefully done.

For those far away, and unable to visit.....hope these pics bring back fond memories.

Becky

Patricia Hamilton (Denham)

Thanks for sharing the photos Becky. They did bring back memories. We drove by the school when we went down for the BBQ at Linda's but we didn't go on campus. The photo you have of the snack line and the hallway by the classrooms does bring back memories. For so many years after we got out of school I missed it so much, not really the school but all the people. Having this forum, facebook and the little get togethers we have been having have been so fun. I hope it doesn't stop. How many classes over the years have been able to keep in contact with so many classmates?

My gosh Becky how wonderful to see all the pictures. Thank you so much for sharing....What a trip down memory lane even down to Roy Lamphear's brick. I went to the Senior Prom with him and still to this day we are great friends...

I was called in for Jury duty for tomorrow.....I called in all week and now I have to report in the morning... :(

I will not be going tomorrow night with the classmates to the Temptations Concert and I am very sad about that....so everyone who is going have a great time and sing a few songs for me...LOL

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Yes Becky, great photos and memories captured all over again. I couldn't believe all the buildings, and who do those people think they are putting that big building on the grass where we all sat? How disrespectful...lol

Things are still hectic here in Idaho, my dad fell and broke his wrist, we thought he broke both of them but found out one is sprained and one is fractured in 2 places. He hit his nose, knocked himself out, and has a couple broken ribs. As they say, when it rains it pours.

I so hope to be able to come to So CA in October or the very first part of Nov. I miss all of you so much, and it's been so great being back in touch.

Thank you all for you thoughts and prayers for my family.

Oh, one good thing in case some of you heard about the big fugitive capture of a guy who escaped from a mental hospital where they had actually taken them out on a field trip to the county fair, well he was a convicted murderer and it was one of the biggest man hunts in the history of WA. My youngest son Jeff was on the helicopter that chased him out of the trees where he was then apprehended. It was a pretty big deal for me anyway.

Everyone stay healthy and take care.
Lynne

Becky,

Thanks for the photos. I especially liked your comments. I attended Alondra too. I thought that we kept it pretty neat and clean. Your comment that, "It might be your last visit", was touching.
I can testify to having some good times at Alondra and Paramount. Moments that have added joy to my years of living.
Last month Gary Buice came down to Southern Cal. On our way back from Seal Beach we drove past Captain Collins Elem. It seems like it was only a short while ago that we played kickball on the grass, visited the custodian, Earl, to ask him to cut a gallon wine bottle in order to make a terrarium.
The photo of the Paramount hallways reminds me of the friendly faces I would see on my way to classes. It bothers me how segments of the media (music...) have helped created a youth culture that is mean spirited. It's the "bad and I can be, and in your face" behavior.
Not all of course.
Enough for now.
Good to read your words.

Becky, WoW!

Thank you for posting those pictures. So many memories, you captured for all of us to see. I went to Lincoln, Mokler, Alondra and then Paramount High. It was wonderful to see those pictures. Loved the senior square. Do you all remember the picture that was taken of our class in the senior square?

I too remember the class I was in when the news of President Kennedy. As you are facing Alondra Jr. High, it was the classroom in front upstairs on the right hand side. Everyone was in tears. What a great man to caputure the hearts of so many young children.

Thanks again.

Everyone going to the concert, I will see you tonight! Looking forward to it.

My neighbor lady that is almost 88 went to a skilled nursing home yesterday. So sad, we have talked together for over 29 years. She will be in Long Beach.

Had a great time visiting Maurene last weekend with our mom. We went looking at yard sales, they had a city wide yard sales.

Love,

Lorene

Lynne --- I think it's really interesting about your son and the fugitive. Our son Damon is currently taking flying lessons and hopes to eventually fly helicopters for Metro PD in Las Vegas where he is currently a detective in the "Major Crimes Division." I'll tell him your son's story.

My other boys, Denny, Poppy (Denny's dad) and Jeff are in Bishop on a fishing trip. They got "skunked" yesterday but hope it's better today. Denny called last night and said the trees are changing and it's gorgeous.

This afternoon I'm going to my mom's for "craft time." Should be fun.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Geneva -- wish I could be in So Cal this weekend for you craf fair. Have a great time.

I was going through some boxes I had stored in the garage and serendipitously came across some high school photos that I had been looking for last year. There are about 15 and include the Tastee Freeze, Senior Square, and classmates.

Please feel free to download them for your personal files.

Post card from Camacho's. Lorene will be uploading a scan of the full size picture.

More than The Usual Suspects gathered once more at Universal City Walk's Gibson Amphitheater (which ain't amphi, by the by) for an evening of memories with the Temptations and the Four Tops. Each group has 1 remaining original member. I think the fact that the four Tops have the son of one original member and the younger brother of another makes it a touch more authentic. Both groups performed flawlessly.

THANK YOU MIRTHA.
